Historically one of the economic and cultural powerhouses of the Midwest, Detroit is full of people who are working towards redevelopment and revitalization. Known as the origin of the automobile industry, the Motor City is moving towards a future of economic opportunity with roots far beyond the world of cars. The cost of living is low while rental rates for apartments, condos, and houses are highly attractive for any budget.
Monuments paying tribute to Detroit’s rich history are everywhere while astonishing architecture and public artwork is scattered throughout the city. As the birthplace of Motown, Detroit has a long tradition of producing legendary musicians like Diana Ross and Stevie Wonder. This tradition continues today and it’s easy to find live performances from every genre.
The city is a great destination for sports lovers as one of the few American cities with major leagues in football, baseball, basketball, and hockey.

Property Ratings at Philip Houze
I love Philip Houze! The location is prime and apartments are gorgeous. The only thing better than the spaces and where it’s located is the incredible service. The staff is phenomenal. Philip Houze is first-rate.
I love Philip Houze. The apartments are gorgeous. The only thing better than the spaces and location is the staff. They are phenomenal. I made an excellent choice.
I’ve only lived at Philip Houze for 7 months, but I’ve lived in Downtown Detroit for 15 years. The staff here are extremely friendly and very easy to get a hold of. All questions are answered very promptly (and to my satisfaction), usually in person, since the staff is always available, one way or the other. Communication is handled so well, that my questions are answered before I even ask. Maintenance issues are resolved in a timely (and friendly) manner. I never feel like I’m “putting anyone out”. The maintenance team goes above and beyond to ensure our safety by making sure everything is running properly. Our cleaning guy is amazing! He begins early each morning to keep the building sparkling clean! Even my hallway is vacuumed regularly, and the stairwells are maintained. The building is very old, but it always smells and looks clean. This is a big plus in my book! Management plans lovely, regularly scheduled events that accommodate all different types of residents (including the dogs!). Nicely printed flyers are posted in advance so that we know what’s going on and can plan to attend. It’s such a nice way to meet my neighbors! We have a secure, organized room where we can pick up our packages at our own convenience. If we know we have a delivery and would like it placed in our apartment, we just email management and they take care of it! I love the fact that we have a secure bike room conveniently located in the basement. They’ve even installed a “bike station” with every tool necessary to do simple bike repairs. A heavy-duty tire pump has also been installed. It is securely bolted to the concrete floor, so you don’t have to hold it down with your foot. This may not seem important but, if you have a bike, it really means a lot to have these items available. All in all, as you can tell, I think that Philip Houze is a great place to call home and I highly recommend it!
I have been in my unit for 5 months now and everyone has been so helpful and courteous when it comes to our concerns. We have had a shift in management and I was leery at first, but the new management is equally eager to accommodate the residents. It’s a great spot to live as it is placed right near a lot of the “happenings” downtown as well as the apartments have a really nice industrial design. The other residents are friendly and make living here the least bit better. I plan to renew! Being that this building was renovated in the fall/winter months, I’m excited for the fire pit/patio to come in the summer!
I have lived here for seven months & loved every second. The staff is friendly and accommodating, the apartment has quality finishes, our lobby has a pool table, there is fitness room, a pickup dry cleaning service, a trash chute for convenience, and the location is unparalleled. The entire city of Detroit is at your fingertips. The Tigers, Lions, RedWings, and Pistons all play within walking distance, not to mention the Opera House, Fox Theatre, multiple other performance venues, and Detroit has an amazing bar and foodies scene. I can ride my moped to Eastern Market, walk to Corktown for brunch (kinda far, but walkable) and hop on the QLINE in two blocks if I want to go to Midtown. I’m not sure about the review below as the call box does work, we have a package room, & when my heat went off for an hour during the freak of nature Polar Vortex, the friendly staff had it back on within an hour. Yes, there will be eventually be an outdoor space that hasn’t been completed yet, but when you open in October and have a Polar Vortex kinda winter, when does one expect that work to be completed??? You can’t run gas lines in the winter months for supposed outdoor fireplaces.
