Innovation Quarter is an innovation district focused on research, business, and education in several fields of study. There are many labs, medical groups, power plants, and research facilities in this neighborhood. Innovation Quarter is a part of Downtown Winston-Salem, so the residents of this community appreciate its proximity to everything downtown has to offer. Apartments in this district are mainly modern and upscale due to its downtown location. Local restaurants, neighborhood parks, and specialty shops are all within reach of Innovation Quarter Residents. After you find your high-rise apartment in town, check out Crafted the Art of the Taco or King’s Crab Shack and Oyster Bar, two popular hangouts downtown.

Property Ratings at Plant 64 Apartment Homes
I am a student in the area and I also ocassionally am sent abroad/to NYC for government work; my roommate is also a student and works in finances. Bearing this in mind, we are often out of the apartment, and have quite demanding schedules and needs. However, Plant 64 and the staff have been very amicable in making accomodations for our housing and we have largely had only positive experiences. The facilities are top-notch and well maintained, and the apartments themselves are all excellent. The staff have, as previously stated, been very kind and helpful, responding to emails and requests in a reasonable timeframe. One thing to note, however, is that some of the apartments lack overhead lighting in the bedrooms (there IS overhead lighting, however, in the kitchen, living room, hallway and bathrooms), so it would be wise to bring standing lamps or an alternative. Another thing to be aware of is heating/cooling: this, of course, is not necessarily a bad thing, but because the cielings are quite tall (ours are ~16 feet), the best way to cool/heat your apartment is to set it at a reasonable temperature and keep your windows closed and SHADES DOWN in the summer and UP in the Winter. Natural light from the large windows will hurt your cooling bill in the summer, but help heat the place in the winter, so be diligent about natural light when it comes to managing the temp. of the apartment. Overall, my experience at Plant 64 has been quite positive. If your price range allows you to tour Plant 64, I would highly recommend it over similarly-priced apartments on account of its safety, quality of facilities, kind staff, location and apartment quality.
I lived here for a year and to be honest I just do not feel that it is worth what they are charging. The amenities are top quality and the staff are pleasant, but this place is near the top of the list for most expensive apartments downtown and in my opinion, it just plain Isn't worth what they charge. The reason I feel that it is not worth the rent is mostly location, which is a big part of what they try to sell you on by talking about it being downtown. While it is near bailey park which is nice, it is about a 15-25 minute walk from almost anything else you'd like to do downtown and it is also a stones throw from one of the most poverty stricken parts of town. There is constant security so it is still a safe community, but just to buy stuff as simple as groceries in a safe area you have to get on the highway and go across town. Also power bills are significantly higher than you will spend at other apartments because of the high ceilings and huge windows, meaning more air to be kept cool and more sunlight coming in heating the air up. My power bill has been as high as $175 for one month in a single bedroom apt. Plus don't forget the 30 dollars they'll charge you to park and 15 dollars they charge to collect your trash you'll be paying up to $225 a month on top of the rent. Maybe I'm just over the idea of paying the crazy rent required to live downtown, but In my opinion if you are choosing between this apartment and other downtown apartments, I would maybe consider spending even a little bit more to get closer to the heart of downtown rather than living on the outskirts at these high prices.
Property Manager at Plant 64 Apartment Homes, Responded To This Review
Hello, We’d like to thank you for being a valued resident at Plant 64! We are very proud to offer top quality amenities and a friendly staff that we think separate us from other Winston-Salem communities. Our location in the heart of the Innovation Quarter allows for a quick commute to the Wake Forest School of Medicine, WSSU, Bailey Park, and is only a .6 mile walk to the center of downtown WS. It is true that loft style apartments can have higher energy bills than your standard apartment home, but we find that our residents prefer the added natural light and character that loft style living provides. Many Winston-Salem communities now have parking fees and have seen increased rents, due to the increased volume of people moving into the city over the last few years. If there is anything we can do to help you enjoy your time at Plant 64, please stop by the management office so that we can discuss. Thank you, Plant 64 Management
I had a wonderful experience living at Plant 64. The apartments are very clean and spacious. I was most impressed with the friendly and professional Plant 64 team, including Robyn and Ashley. They were incredibly accommodating, and I liked that the office is available after work hours and on Saturday. I enjoyed the gym, free coffee, and outdoor spaces. I also found the business center useful for studying and printing. I cannot say enough good things about Plant 64.
Plant 64 is so cool! Brand new, high-end, walk everywhere downtown. I am new to the area and have met many great people so far. Great community, great staff and most amenities anywhere. They have a huge gym, killer saltwater pool, FREE classes, Yoga room AND basketball court. I love to drink my morning coffee on the rooftop. I am very happy here and so glad I chose P 64!
I'm not sure why people have been having noise issues. I've been here almost a year and have never even heard my neighbors. It is such a sturdy old building that was beautifully renovated with things like a big designer kitchen and new washer and dryer. Also, I love my AT&T service. I get wayyyy more than I did with Time Warner for about half the cost. I love the rooftop and the pool is huge with tons of seating. Being an outdoors person, you get all those spaces to be outside as well as Bailey Park right behind us with green space. I'm really glad I picked Plant 64.
This is the perfect location. A short walk to the arts district, restaurants, and shopping. The staff is super friendly and accommodating, especially Ashley. The amenities are absolutely fabulous and very well maintained. The kitchen/living/dining area are open and perfect for entertaining. Remarkably quiet for an apartment complex.
The complex itself is beautiful, as are the units. It's a great location - about a 10 minute walk to the restaurants on 4th street. The only major downside is the noise. You can hear almost everything your neighbors are doing at all times. Groups of loud, drunk college students make a racket all night long on the weekends. You can hear TV, music, and barking dogs coming from the other end of the hallway, and footsteps and dragging furniture are amplified by the concrete floors. You can even hear your neighbor taking a leak. If noise bothers you there will be little relief living in the apartment. The quality of living does not match up with the prices they are charging.
Overall, very good place to live. I think it is a good value, large floor plans and great amenities for very competitive pricing. Very friendly community, quite and safe so far. Gym is very extensive for an apartment complex, eliminating the need for an outside gym membership. Negatives: Parking situation was a problem for a while but seems to be improving. Need to pay even for outside spot and lots were overflowing for a while. With new tenants, seems like it could be an issue again. Other hiccups of new complex are being addressed as they occur: Trash chute issues being supplemented now with valet trash. I would definitely check this place out if you're looking to live in a community with mostly young professional type people. If you value a friendly place with very solid amenities.
The amenities at Plant 64 provide a total loft living experience! It's everything we could have imagined...pool, fitness center, cool loft layouts, great views of the city, outdoor spaces, super dog friendly, and the downtown life is complete with a plethora of the arts, music, food, drink, and a wide range of events! All within walking distance! So much to do for all ages...we are in our 40s and we love the age diversity within the lofts and downtown. No regrets!
Plant 64 is awesome! There is no other housing downtown that has all the amenities that this place does. Nice pool and huge outdoor space with kitchen, giant movie screen, pool table and ping pong table and rooftop deck. Indoor amenities include gym, full basketball court, lounge with big screen gaming consoles, kitchen, and business center. In a hot new location right next to Innovation Quarter, Bailey Park, and Krankies. My only complaint is that there is not enough parking! Garage spaces have sold out and outdoor/overflow lots are...overflowing themselves. Some residents can't even purchase a decal. Not sure how the management company is planning to fix this but inquire before you sign your lease!
Plant 64 is the jewel of downtown Winston Salem. I have lived in other downtown locations and Plant 64 truly is a major step above the rest. If you're looking for a modern, clean and spacious location then this is the perfect location. The amenities are tailored to meet everyone's needs from the rooftop terrace, pool lounge and outdoor kitchen, state-of-the-art gym, indoor basketball court and so much more, you have to see it to truly appreciate this location. One thing I would improve on is the parking situation especially for covered parking since the gate is often times broken. Aside from that the community is well rounded and friendly.
We recently moved into Plant 64 and we love it! We looked at them a year ago during construction but the time line just didn't work out. So this year when Iease was up, we came back! It is perfect. The saltwater pool and the rooftop are my favorite areas so far. Everyone is very friendly including the staff and maintenance. It is our personal oasis from the rest of the world! So excited to finally be here!
Plant 64 is a pretty great building. About 10 minute drive from the hospital and a reasonable walk to anything down town. It has great amenities that include a salt water pool, recreational games, a gym (probably one of the better apartment gyms I've seen), roof top area, and a basketball court (not a true full court but it's still awesome). It is very pet friendly and the staff is great! They also plan free and not free events for residents and have a monthly calendar of fun stuff. My only complaints are that there is limited natural lighting in room/lighting at all. You need lamps. Not a big deal, but it's the truth. Also, parking is not included so you have to pay an extra $50 a month or park on street. There is plenty of street parking, but not as good as a free garage. Finally, they use this weird program that adjusts loft prices, pretty much based on supply and demand. So you could live in an identical unit to someone else, but if they could be paying less than you.
