West Ashley sits within the city of Charleston and is west of the Ashley River, hence its name, and is the birthplace of Hootie & the Blowfish’s frontman, Darius Rucker. Lined with mossy oaks, the Ashley and Stono Rivers border West Ashley, creating the breathtaking scenery for which Charleston is known. West Ashley residents enjoy close proximity to the area's only indoor mall, the Citadel Mall, and a large number of big-box stores.
Situated seven miles due west of Downtown Charleston, residents can plan on a 15- to 30-minute drive, depending on traffic, to take in all downtown has to offer. Nearby Interstate 526, which feeds directly into Charleston’s Interstate Highway 26, gives residents a fast and easy route in and out of area. Mid- to late-1900s ranch-style homes characterize the housing in outer West Ashley, but neighborhoods built in the 2000s also sprinkle the area.

Don’t recommend moving here! The apartments are infested with roaches even though you have to pay pest control fees per month. The grounds aren’t taken care of. Trash is left for days in the parking lots and grass areas. Our neighbors moved out a month ago and left trash all on their porch and it is still sitting there. Neighbors leave trash in front of their door for days and nothing gets done about it. The pictures on their website aren’t close to the real thing. The woodwork is horrible. We moved in with broken baseboards and shower walls that never got fixed.

if i could give 0 stars i would. office staff is incompetent and unprofessional at best, not to mention rude. maintenance is inefficient. the actual units compared to the show unit are TRASH. the staff also gives the complex 5 star reviews to bump up their ratings. just literally do not live here.

Each company that has purchased this place has been worst than the person before them. There is several issues with almost every unit and the new owners DO NOT CARE especially if you have been living here before they purchased it. The property manager is rude and could careless about the residence. Maintenance is no better than her, yes he may respond at his earliest convenience but that just isn’t enough for people who are living here and paying their rent.

Great for moving into the Charleston area. You get exactly what you pay for. Floods because of marshes and may need a few repairs but it is an old property. I love it because the scenery and my new neighbors. You are able to walk the apartment before move in!

The units are old and outdated. Since moving in I had to contact maintenance several times. I was later informed that my roof wasn’t insulated by Maintnence which is against SC Regulations. I wasn’t informed about this before signing my lease even with my leasing agent knowing I was bearing child. I bought this to someone’s attention in the office just for them to tell me “that has nothing to do with the AC” which it actually does. With your roof not being insulated it causes your AC to run nonstop which runs up the electricity bill. I feel mislead and deceived! I was falsely advertised apartment homes. I was told I could opt out of the WiFi bundle which would add an additional $53.00 to rent before signing my lease and a few months later I am being told it isn’t optional. Everything is in fact painted over as stated below by a prior resident. I’ve had an issue with my dryer not drying clothes properly and fogging up the house. I wouldn’t recommend at all!

I wouldn't recommend this place at all! No maintenance staff stays long enough to be effective. If they are management won't effectively let them do their job. They don't value their employees. If they did so many wouldn't leave. If you like bugs, plumbing issues, and leaks live here!

I've been living here since March and quite enjoy it. I've got a huge balcony that I enjoy immensely. Maintenance issues have been taken of - Rick is awesome- and it's quiet. I never hear my neighbors through the walls. Overall, I've had a great experience so far!

To sum up a long story, everything is painted over, bugs appear more often and more so after monthly spray. Foundation is shot and again covered by paint. Online bill pay server kept having issues and was hit for missed payments due to their side of the issue. Over the past year, management has changed 4x. Laundry systems were shotty if they ever worked and the location is horrible in getting out of the parking lot with traffic. Literally sat for 10mins to get out on the way to work. Plus you can time it just right to hear a siren from the FD or EMT on a daily basis. Ideal if your a hermit that barely leaves, not a place I would ever pick again for a busy person. I've had it and will be moving to another location AND will NEVER RECOMMEND this place to anyone that asks for a place in this area.

My boyfriend and I moved here in November of last year so we have lived here just over a year now. When we first moved in we had a few issues. However, the property is now under new management, and we have been happy ever since. They are really turning this place around for the better! Alot of exciting and positive improvements are being made everywhere. The clubhouse was remodeled and the laundry room has been improved as well. The parking lots were just repaired, the landscaping is being updated and the buildings are being painted this week. They are also working on a dog park. The office manager is so nice, organized and he is incredibly helpful if we ever have questions or concerns. He gets things done! He is so friendly and you can tell he genuinely wants you to love living here. I read the other review and understand them being unhappy but that maintenance/management staff is no longer here. We like living at Planters trace, we like our apartment and the location is great too, it's close to the hightway, the beaches, and downtown. In fact, we just renewed our lease. :)

We moved to Planters Trace Apartments in May 2014. What a mistake! We live on the ground floor and have had to deal with maintenance issues since July 2014 - and we are still dealing with the same exact issues today. We had a leaking bathroom ceiling that we have reported to the property manager multiple times since July 2014. The maintenance man at the time stated that the leak was coming from the tub upstairs so he would caulk the tub and consider it a "fix". This happened several times and it never stopped the leak. We reported to the office manager again on July 20, 2015 that water was still coming through the ceiling (12 months after our initial report and after multiple reports regarding this same issue) and we needed this fixed. I informed the property manager that we would be traveling for a few weeks, returning on September 2, 2015, and we expected the leak and the ceiling to be fixed before we returned. It did not happen. We returned home on September 2, 2015 to not only a leaking ceiling but also to discover that the ceiling was falling into the tub now. There was also visible mold on the ceiling. They again told us they would fix this issue. It was not fixed. They resorted to caulk yet again and patched our ceiling. The result of this patch job was that water was now coming through the vent and the light fixture in our bathroom. Finally they ordered a new tub, 10 days AFTER we returned home, and installed it in the apartment upstairs and the leak stopped. But our wet ceiling still has not been replaced. It has been "patched" but not replaced. We had an agreement, in an email received from the property manager, that the ceiling would be torn out, the mold issue addressed, and the ceiling repaired today. The email states that the painters would arrive "by noon" today. That did not happen. They finally showed up at 2pm today but we could not accommodate that schedule due to work commitments. The painters informed us that they were never told to be there by noon today so off to the leasing office we went to get this straightened out only to find out that we were lied to again. We have had to hire an attorney to resolve this issue, sent multiple emails, and finally have sent a certified letter (required by law) to inform them of our intent to vacate the property if this issue is not fixed within 2 weeks. This is not the only maintenance issue we have had at Planters Trace. Do not make the same mistake we did - avoid this place.
