Known as both Bull City and the City of Medicine, Durham is known for its college-town vibe, array of tech companies, and thriving arts scene. Former textile and tobacco mills have given way to art galleries, unique restaurants, co-working spaces, and spacious lofts. Durham is the proud home to Duke University, a cutting-edge research institution dressed in Gothic architecture.
Entrepreneurship defines the culture in Durham, from tech startups to eclectic food trucks turned restaurants, and everything in between. From the handcrafted goods at the Mothership to the national retailers at the Streets of Southpoint, Durham has an abundance of shopping options. You’ll find locals enjoying the Durham Farmers Market and Food Truck Rodeo at Central Park, visiting the Duke Lemur Center (the largest in the world), kayaking at Eno River State Park, and exploring the interactive exhibits at the Museum of Life and Science.

Property Ratings at Poplar Manor Apartments
Great apartment and location but there is a major roach problem. My apartment is extremely clean and I still have dozens of roaches coming from other units. Maintenance sprays my apt every other week but the problem persists; the problem needs to be addressed in the whole building.
2015-2016 tenant, local physician. Left/Relocated for job. Good: - very prompt maintenance - reasonably priced - some staff is professional (ie. Katya). Bad: - end-of-lease surprise fees; management would state one thing in e-mail correspondences specifically discussing end of lease fees (they stated none would be applied) and then add on a fee after you've moved away and they have full control of your deposit so there isn't anything you can do. - not the safest neighborhood: regular notices (and personal experiences) of packages being stolen. On the outskirts of a crime area (read local police blotter) - loud neighbors (hit or miss wherever you go) Felt like an ugly end to a somewhat peaceful year. All in all, if you are looking for a budget place around the hospital, this is a decent option but its not the safest area and the managements bottom line is money and not satisfaction of the tenant (upon leaving).
This is a great place I lived there 2014 to 2015 and made the dumb mistake of moving. Its really close to duke west campus walking distance close to kroger. Pretty safe and quiet with good alarm system and the apartments have lots of well insulated windows a lot of sunlight which I loved. Maintenance is great fix everything on the same day. Try to get an apartment on the second floor might be better. Make sure you ask for deals they have 1st month free if you sing 1 year lease deals. I would move back there if I could.
