Property Ratings at Portside at East Pier
Signed an 18 month lease, at the end of the lease they wanted to raise rent 20% then docked 50% of the deposit for a magical refrigerator repair. Good luck to anyone suckered into Portside.
Property Manager at Portside at East Pier, Responded To This Review
Thank you for reaching out as a former resident. We are sorry if you were dissatisfied with the return of your deposit at move-out and are happy to discuss this matter with you in more detail. When you have a moment, we encourage you to contact us at eastpier@verisresidential.com, and we will work to put your mind at ease. We hope to hear from you soon.
The location of this complex and proximity to the T can't be beat. The amenities are decent, and walkability is excellent. However, this will come at a cost - your sanity. The walls and ceilings are so thin, these are some of the things I can hear through them on a daily basis: footsteps, cell phone vibrations, entire conversations, dogs freaking out and barking 24/7 and to make it all worse, I can actually hear my neighbors upstairs peeing if i'm in the bathroom at the same time (I wish I was kidding). The apartments in the Meridian collection over the surface parking lot are constantly subject to noise reverberating. This has become egregious since the tall ship bar opened, and basically feels like living next to a concert venue. Not to mention, the building now feels like a college dorm with people constantly screaming, partying, and generally being super loud on their baclonies - and you'll hear every word of it whether you want to or not. While my experience with maintenance has been good, they drive around in something that sounds like a lawnmower (often times before 7 am, multiple days a week) through that parking lot and loudly drag dumpsters. I understand some of this can't be avoided, but again, just be prepared to be on everyone else's schedule but your own if you ever want to get sleep living in this section of the building. The main concierge staff is super nice, building management is hit or miss, with some being absolutely horrendous to deal with and very few being pleasant. Save yourself the exorbitant rent and move to a smaller building.
DO NOT rent from Portside at East Pier, I was treated horribly. I had an apartment chosen, but lost my job due to COVID. They did not give me my security deposit of $1000 back, even though most buildings are doing so in these cases(my Real Estate agent confirmed this). The Director of Operations was extremely unpleasant to work with during this difficult time, and the leasing office was extremely unresponsive to my agent. When I'm reemployed, I will NOT be renting here. I completely understand why so many of their apartments are vacant.
Awesome place to live, hate to be leaving. The amenities are unmatched by anything else around town. The staff are as friendly, responsive and incredibly helpful now as they were when we first moved in. The buildings and grounds are kept in excellent condition all year round. It is an extremely pet friendly community, when our dog ran away it felt like the entire building was out looking for him. It also has an indoor and outdoor pet run area with a dog wash and grooming station. The neighborhood has a lot to offer especially if you are looking for good food. They have also done a great job with the development of the harbor walk area and are expanding Piers Park. Overall great experience, great staff, great neighbors, a block away from the T and the best view of the Boston skyline that you can get. Most importantly it is very reasonably priced by Boston standards. I will definitely miss this place.
It looks nice, but there are numerous reasons to look elsewhere: rude management; lost packages; and an extreme amount of noise coming from the unit above are just three of those reasons. So disappointed with this apartment. Moved in in May, have become even more disappointed as time has passed. The keys are electric and recently decided myself and my roommate don’t live here; we were locked out, after work, without a way to fix it until the leasing office opened and we found a “convenient” time to go have our keys reset. Also, the shaking and noise experienced on our porch from the people upstairs is so intense it has made more than 1 guest not want to sit outside because they’re uncomfortable being on the porch with it shaking. They also took it upon themselves to put a sticker on my car that now won’t come off. Like I said, not worth it.
We regret our experience living in this building. The management was rude and unprofessional. The building was not designed and constructed against noise. Complete waste of money.
Our stay in this apartment was a complete waste of money. The management was very rude and unprofessional. They lie and they are not reliable. Building is built with very cheap materials and is not resistance to noise. Unit's appliances and facilities do not work properly and they are cheap quality. We lived in several luxury buildings and the experience in this building was nothing close to luxury living that they advertise.
For the high rent that they charge and their advertisement of luxury apartment, living in this building complex was nothing close to what we expected and it was a bad disappointment since we had sincerely looked forward to our stay there. I think with paying few thousands dollar of rent, tenants at least deserve peace and respect at their home. Building management was very unprofessional with noticeably weak customer service skills. They didn't have integrity and they were not reliable. They "boss" around and disregard you if you have concerns or questions. The building is not properly designed and constructed to proof the outside and exterior noise. There were ongoing multiple major construction activities around the building. The construction trucks, activities and back up beep and alarm noise start from 7am and go all the way till 7pm, Monday through Saturday. There was also a fire department building one block away in Sumner St, in case you have sensitivity to every hour fire and emergency noise. Sumner St, and Marginal St were also usually conducting heavy and industrial trucks. In addition, Building is very close to airport and the noise isolation in walls and around windows are not installed in a way to block such constant loud noise. lastly, If you are renting in the new building, your unit may face the main outdoor patio, which seemed to be crowded with about 15-30 people who loudly grill and play until passed 10pm. Utilities were not paid and not included in the rent. Expect Water&Sewer and Electricity bills "each" for $150-$250 per month. Appliances in the unit were cheap quality and did not work properly. Windows screens were damaged and bugs could get in. Windows blinders were cheap quality.
I was really taken back by what happened to us yesterday at Portside at East Pier. Since December, We have been in touch with the leasing office there directly and we finally went to the appointment to take a look yesterday. We currently live in NY and we had to reserve flights and hotel to come take a look at the place. Needless to say we were really excited to look at the place. Our appointment was at 5:30pm, we took uber from my work in financial district at 5pm sharp. Uber took a wrong exit at the tunnel and we came right back to the financial district... At that point we knew we would be late about 10 mins max so we called the office to let them know we were running late. We got there at 5:39- 9 mins late to our appointment and when we got there, the leasing director(?) Frank told us we can't look at the place because we were late. We begged him to take a look at the property very quickly. He kept saying this is our policy and we can't show you. If I show it to you, I would be unfair to other people. I thought we were the renter? He insisted he can't show us the place. We had to leave... without seeing the place which we have been looking forward to see since December... We spent time and money to come look at it all the way from NYC. We need to move for 3/1 lease and we were really disappointed and somehow found Frank's behavior very rude and unreasonable. I am not sure what kind of "policy" you set at your company but I thought someone high up, who really has the view of investors who wants to fill apartments, can hear what kind of experience even other people than us could be experiencing onsite. This was a huge waste of time.
Are we not allowed to give 0 stars? Well then, the view is the only reason I'll give it 1 star. The management team is terrible. Try calling them during the day anytime from Monday to Friday 8am-5pm and I GUARANTEE they won't answer. They are terrible at helping you with anything. Very condescending and they act like pricks. They'll be so nice when you sign the lease of course, but they will not ever help you with anything from that point on. It's pathetic. Newer apartments are coming to Eastie so please go there instead, these people are genuinely the laziest. On top of that, they charged me $850 when I moved out, even though our apartment was spotless. Literally the worst and laziest management team. Even the view is just surrounded by teenagers smoking weed. The hallways smell like weed. The gym is tiny and the internet doesn't work there. Unless you live on the top floor you will hear EVERYTHING happening above you, it's unbearable at times. Dogs are barking all the time, and the walls are paper thin, so you will hear your neighbors. The "events" consist of a small table with 5 granola bars up for grabs while two people talk at you about things you don't need. The construction happening around the building will keep you up all morning, they start very early. Other than that, maintenance is great and so is the concierge. But what's the point if the person running the show is terrible at their job? Don't waste your money here. Better options are out there
We chose this place about 3 years ago and we certainly don't regret it. We are fully enjoying our experience at Portside Eastpier Beside being in a great location, 5 min from the city, the surrounding is great. The management team is wonderful, always available to help you at anytime. The maintenance & cleaning crew are amazing to keep this place neat & clean. We don't want to forget the concierge team who is fantastic. We are also looking forward to visit the new building with more and more amenities. New in Boston or looking for an amazing place to live ? Portside Eastpier.....
Making a move across country is never easy! However, when my wife and I moved from Indiana to Boston so that I could attend dental school we were lucky enough to find Portside at East Pier to call our new home for the next 4 years. The community within Portside is wonderful including the cleaning ladies, concierge, leasing staff, and the other residents. Not only are the individuals at Portside great, but also the location is second to none. We are 1 stop from the airport, 1 stop from the North End with great food and bars, and just 2 stops to the Orange Line which allows us to venture to the other places we need to go…and if you don’t feel like taking the T across the water residents get to use the water taxi for $5 a person! The well-designed apartments, beautiful view, quietness we get on this side of the water, and all that was mentioned above have all made the experience in Boston great for my wife and I. We can’t wait for phase 2 to finish up that will offer a rooftop hang out area, larger gym, and a pool!
I have lived here for a year and a half, the views are stunning but the AC unit breaks frequently and the management staff is absolutely horrible. Very rude and condescending, which wasn't apparent when I first moved in but became a pain in time as they get involved in every little aspect of your life to make it more difficult and charge expensive hidden fees that they don't tell you about in the beginning. I regret having lived there.
We rented a beautiful apartment with a great location (within steps from the Maverick T station), modern layout and a great view. The building is new, with modern appliances including washer and dryer inside the unit (a rarity in the area). It was nice to work directly with management making the application process less tedious and avoiding the nuisance of intermediaries. After 1 year living here, unexpected circumstances oblige us to move but if I ever come back to the Boston area I would not hesitate to give Portside at East Pier a call.
I've been living at Portside for a little over a month now. My partner and I couldn't be happier with our new one bedroom apartment. From the quality of the amenities to the ease of paying rent online, Portside has exceeded all of our expectations. Furthermore, all of the staff is extremely friendly and are always willing to help and the people who live in the buildiing are all very nice as well and always say hi. Also, managment tries to make a point of holding events for residents, as a way to get residents to know each other, which I really like. However, aside from the aprtment itself, the best part of living here is the view--you can't beat it! The view of downtown and the financial distrct from the pier right outside the builing is incredible and is definitely my favorite part about living here.

Great place right on Boston Harbor. The City is visible from the back of the complex with a great view. Very clean and friendly staff. Right near Maverick T station on the blue line. Super easy to get into Boston. Very nice on the inside as well! Great place overall!
