Property Ratings at MAA Carlyle Square
This is the WORST place I've ever lived. Every day of my lease I've spent regretting not having done research on MAA prior to living here. This company is seriously a NIGHTMARE. First of all, a staff member of theirs TRESPASSED into our unit and ROBBED ME!!!!! Nobody in the company took it seriously and after the issue was reported and police became involved, they were RUDE to US! Like we didn't get robbed. I'm talking WILDLY unprofessional. Plus the staff has a super high turnover rate, resulting in a lot of issues. Stay away.

I just moved in this community and I cannot be more happy!! This place is absolutely wonderful! Super clean, quiet, very friendly, with excellent amenities. My apartment was exceptionally well prepared for my new residency. Impeccably clean, excellent appliances, everything working in perfect order. What can I say, I think this is a first class moving experience!! Thank you Post Carlyle Square!!! :-)

Hi, your wonderful feedback and rating mean a lot to us. If you have any further questions, please give us a call. We're always happy to help!
I move around quite a bit and have visited many rental establishments across the country, by far this one provided me the best customer service. After my initial visit Samy followed up with me a few times as new listing came open. He knew what I was looking for and what price point I was trying to fit within. Samy's open communication and appropriate follow-up sealed the deal with me signing a lease here. Even after the initial commitment, Samy answered all my questions as I approached my move in day. This facility is beautiful and in a very nice area. I would highly recommend living here and if you need assistance, ask for Samy.

Hi, thank you for your kind review; we are happy to pass along your comments to the team here at Post Carlyle Square! If you have any further questions, please give us a call. We're always happy to help!
I thought I had previously written a review of our experience at Post Carlyle Square, but it seems not. That's okay, because we've now been here a full year and I can comment with more confidence. I cannot recommend Post Carlyle Square highly enough. The leasing office staff are all amazing, each and every one of them. They are quick to respond to emails and always answer any questions with a helpful attitude. I really appreciate their willingness to ensure our happiness. The maintenance staff are also top-notch. Requests for maintenance are responded to incredibly quickly and the staff are considerate of our space when they arrive to complete work. The buildings are kept clean and the grounds are lovely. We live on the top floor of the low-rise building and we NEVER hear noise from our neighbors. It's remarkable how quiet it is, really. Also, residents are allowed to hang wreaths on their doors and set out welcome mats, which is a nice touch. (We once rented a unit in a condo and this was NOT allowed.) I haven't had a chance to use the swimming pools, but the gyms are both well-equipped and kept at a pleasant temperature. We moved in during the pandemic (summer 2020) and I have to admit that I was a bit worried our rent would increase dramatically when we went to renew our lease. I am happy to report that our new lease terms are completely reasonable and we are ecstatic to sign a lease for another year.

Hi, we are so happy to read such a great review about Post Carlyle Square! Feel free to reach out to us if you need anything. Have a wonderful day.
The staff at this property are as nice as can be to your face, but REFUSE to do a lick of work. More likely than not, this could be the laziest staff of humans ever assembled under one roof - and especially in one office. During my two year tenure at this property, I asked repeatedly for certain things to be done. Concerns like addressing dirty things, broken things, blown out things, rogue parking, animal waste, trash, etc. I went by there recently, and nothing has changed. A new management company (MAA) took over, and the place actually got worse. Residents didn't think that was even possible, but it happened. The same things are still dirty and broken, and the staff is still glued to their chairs. There is no accountability or customer care that this place. There is no one in charge, and there is no leadership or management. This attitude has been handed down to the support staff as well. No cleaning happens here, it's been replaced with lots of leaning and smartphone play. The support staff like to hang out by the freight elevators and play on their phones. After submitting numerous service requests, (that always came back marked as completed, but NEVER were), I asked each of the clerks in the office the same thing face-to-face. They all did the same thing; each clerk would nod their head in a 'yes' fashion while smiling, while consistently NEVER, EVER doing any work whatsoever. They WILL NOT DO ANY WORK at this place - they refuse. While I was battling staff over the easy fixes that would make us all look good, I was constantly having frigid air flow into my unit in the wintertime. This was not confined to my unit, this was a property-wide problem. I had to stuff towels around the window frames just to get my heat to turn off once in a while. Staff WILL NOT clean elevators, the public coffee machines, the community room rental space, change light bulbs, fix broken entryways and doors, (to prevent robberies that happen inside the building), tow cars in your space with no parking decal, clean up and address animal waste, or do any sort of meaningful work. But they have no problems giving out HUGE rent increases at the end of your lease term - watch out for that one and plan accordingly. I could recommend that you keep looking at other places, and meanwhile, the staff can keep looking at their phones.
We have lived in our apartment for almost 6 years. In general we like our apartment, and the location, but there is room for improvement in regards to maintaining the amenities.
- I love the property and the neighborhood. - I like the layout of my apartment. - The employees are almost always very helpful. I have very much appreciated that, especially Michelle and Bobby. There are some things that could make the living experience better as follows: - There should be recycling in all buildings, especially by the trash and where people get coffee and their mail where much waste occurs. - The coffee in 601 is rarely stocked, and if it is, it is rarely with the typical variety that has been previously stocked. There have been times where there have not even been cups. - If the property does not want animals on the inside, pet-friendly salt should be used on the outside so pets may be walked safely. - Regarding rent and length of the lease, residents are treated drastically different. Some of us have been gouged each year with $200 plus increases while others have had $0 to very little increase. Also, some have been able to continue longer-term leases while others have not. Although I understand market rates, there should be some benefit to being a longer-term resident. There are none that I can think of. Many residents have left for this reason. - Rugs should be changed prior to renting if they are in disrepair, especially when you do not allow the resident to view the apartment prior to moving in. - The windows need improved insulation from the wind. - More regular upgrading of appliances would be nice. - It would be nice if there was some lighting in the apartments. Thank you for asking. I hope that this survey is being done with the intention of making things better.

Nice location near amenities, great parking situation, and excellent private gardens. Cheap appliances and some many shabby construction details detract from the experience somewhat. Quiet.
the managers try hard please the tenets. my biggest issues have been with uncontrollable dog owners on the site & irrespectable tenents destroying the property.
Ive lived at Post Carlyle Square for a year! The community is great and in an amazing location! I moved up with no vehicle so there was some key points that drew me here. Very close to the Kingstreet metro and King street itself. There's plenty of resutraunts, movie theater, and shopping nearby too! The neighborhood is very welcoming and so is the staff.
It?s good. But maintenance has dropped since MMA bought the property from Post.
Comfortable and well-designed
I have lived at the Post Carlyle for 3 years. My apartment is very quite and the hallways/ common area is very clean. I go to the gym on the penthouse floor daily, it is always clean and has working equipment. The view from the gym is motivating and tranquil. I love the free coffee machines in the lobby! I also feel a sense of community and inclusion by attending apartment events. I love the book club hosted monthly. The front desk agents are friendly and always make me feel welcome. The roof top pool has an amazing view and is a nice oasis from the city. When I need items fixed in my apartment I can trust the maintenance team to take care of it while I'm at work, I really feel like home.
Nice location, need upgrading especially as you raise rent every year without doing anything/upgrades to the actual apartment rented to me.
I like living here, however, I am going to move because of the high rent.
I have lived at Post Carlyle Square for several years now and I love this community. It has great amenities (especially the courtyards and the fitness centers), the leasing staff is very friendly and helpful, it's located in a beautiful neighborhood and very walkable to shops and restaurants. I would recommend for anyone to live here!
I love living at Post Carlyle Square! It is a great community with fantastic amenities. The staff goes above and beyond to meet residents? needs. The common areas are beautiful and regularly updated.
Overall, pleasant.
Very convenient. Great amenities. Friendly & Respectful Neighborhood.
Under the previous management (Post) everything was perfect. Unfortunately now we have MAA and the quality of the living went down. Previous management was preforming window cleaning and parking garage area cleaning once a year, new never done any of it. Garages are super dirty! The only thing new management did was increasing rent by 11%
This is a nice, quiet property close to the Metro and easily walkable to Old Town.
I love the property but the routine maintenance isn't as good as it used to be. Walls need touch up, carpets are stained, the pool is murky.
Nicely appointed apartments, close proximity to Metro, good community activities. Concierge desk a plus to pick up or mail packages.
Staff very responsive to maintenance requests. Condition of property is good. Staff, office and front door, are friendly. Policies are black and white - there is no discretion exercised. Windows should be sealed/rechaulked from outside. It would be interesting to know how many vehicles in garage are not registered/pay monthly fee. Overall a good experience
Property is lovely, management and staff not so attentive
Awesome location. Great staff.
This place is the best I've ever rented, and I have no plans of leaving. Our apartment is beautiful, the units are so well insulated its like we don't have any neighbors. The community events are fun and well attended. The pet owners are respectful as well. The only issue we have had is our packages being hidden or mislabeled in the mail room when we go to pick it up (resulting in the staff telling us we don't have mail when we have packages waiting for us).
This is a beautiful complex. Well maintained and the neighborhood is perfect. Green space, and lots of amenities within walking distance. It is near Old Town Alexandria, which is a big plus. I've been here four years and have no complaints whatever.
Post Carlyle Square offers the best bang for your buck. The location is perfect and the amenities are off charts compared to the closest competitors.
Generally spectacular experience. Safe, clean, pleasant. There are things that could be improved, for instance the internal hallway paint and carpet is showing wear, and they need to more carefully monitor and tow people who park illegally
Very nice complex that has altered its operational practices with the change in ownership. I do like the upgrade on some of the common areas, i.e. grills, but it has become obvious that corporate could care less about its tenants. It is also obvious that they do not trust their local management, as most of the time the response I get is that I have to check with corporate.
Good place to live. The maintenance team is quick to respond and friendly. The cleaning staff does a great job maintaining the place. Gripes: 1) The garage parking isn't enforced and it is sometimes difficult to find a space if you work late. 2) Post Carlyle is very pet friendly but owners aren't penalized for letting pets relieve themselves all around the courtyard when they can just as easily go outside the property. Don't let your kids play in the grass or fool yourself into thinking you can actually sit down on it. 3) The packaging system is terrible. You have to depend on the concierge to be around and honestly I feel bad so much of the concierge's time is spent going to and from the package room. 4) The admin offices are closed most Sundays and they removed the rent drop-off bin so now you have to drop rent checks off at their convenience or be forced to link your bank account to the online portal. 5) The washers/dryer units are cheap and need constant servicing. The maintenance teams have admitted they are repeatedly called on repairing these appliances which tend to stop randomly at different points of the wash cycle.
Renters Beware: This property (501 and 601 Holland Lane) used to be managed by Post Properties Inc., but around December 2016, it was acquired by Mid-America Apartment Communities Inc. (MAA). Keep this time-frame in mind when reading the other reviews (which are old/before MAA). Since MAA took over, the quality of property management has tremendously declined, meanwhile, they have jacked up the rent prices dramatically and inexplicably. Post Properties when it ran Post Caryle Square was able to provide high-quality services at reasonable rent prices. Then MAA took over. It looks like this new company (MAA) is only interested in maximizing profits, and cutting costs. No longer worth it.

We are so sorry to hear of your disappointment. Your comfort and satisfaction are always our number one goal, and we regret if you've received any service that is not in line with our high standards. We'd like to speak with you directly to get more information about your particular experience, so we can address this matter. Will you please call us at 866-620-1130 at your earliest convenience? Thank you so much.
The finishes are great. It is nice to find a place with granite and nice finishes, but you pay extra money to get them. It was nicer two years ago, but I have noticed some differences in the last couple of months. More bugs for one. The complex does have some decent management, but they do not call back all of the time. One of the better places to live, but not perfect.
My husband and I have been living here for just over a year and have never been happier with an apartment (we've both lived in several different apartment buildings through DC and NOVA). The units are more generous in size than the competition and have up to date finishes and fixtures. The windows are huge and the views are great. It's within a 5 minute walk to everything - Whole Foods, metro, King Street shops and restaurants. And the property itself has great amenities including two pools, two gyms and really nice indoor and outdoor amenity space. Every time we have had an issue (which is rare) the management addresses it immediately. The building residents are all friendly and respectful- i.e. we never hear the neighbors. We will definitely be extending our lease as long as they don't raise our rent too much, as this property is already on the higher end of the rent range for Alexandria; that would be our only concern.
