About five miles south of Downtown Chicago, Bronzeville is a historic district containing six structures on the National Register of Historic Places. Prominent figures such as Gwendolyn Brooks, Sam Cooke, Ida B. Wells, and Louis Armstrong helped shape Bronzeville into the cultural and progressive community it is today.
Public art fills the streets of Bronzeville, from vibrant murals to elaborate sculptures, most of which line Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Drive. Lakefront recreation abounds at Burnham Park. The Illinois Institute of Technology lends unique architecture and intellectual pursuits to the neighborhood. Lake Meadows Shopping Center provides an outdoor haven for all kinds of retail delights.
Bronzeville is also notable for its proximity to major amenities such as Guaranteed Rate Field, Washington Park, the University of Chicago, Museum of Science and Industry Chicago, McCormick Place, and Arie Crown Theatre.

Property Ratings at Prairie Shores
You literally have to beg them to pay attention to you. I don’t understand what the leasing agent’s job here is. Don’t waste your time here. I had an appointment which I was late to, due to being new to the city. An agent still attended me and sent me a virtual tour, and also told me to email her back so she could put me into her tour schedule the next day. I did so. She didn’t answer until the next day, then proceeded to simply ask me the same question she had already previously asked me. Finally, she asked what day would work for a tour. I suggested the next day again. She emails back saying it’s full, and if the next day would work. I said yes! Whatever times works for you, I’m in… No answer. Next day comes, I follow up. No answer. Next day comes. Email her and the leasing office. No answer. Called the leasing office 3 different days, over 5 different times, all at different times. No answer. I mean… just exactly what do you do at work?
They turned off the heat for a few days in one of the most coldest days of this past winter. Poor management service.
I have lived here since early 2023, and have had relatives here in the past. I currently live in one of their "renovated" units. -Heating issues are terrible here. WGN came out on 1/16/24 due to the excessive complaints of no heat, my own unit is barely 50 degrees currently. Golub/Prairie Shores wasted a ton of money on the "Hub" building instead of replacing these windows that are from the 1950s. -I constantly see ants and tiny bugs in my apartment. My building had a whole building pest control happen 2 months after moving in as roaches kept getting seen everywhere. I still see them maybe once or twice a month. -Ground floor units suffer from plumbing issues it seems. My kitchen sink would constantly back up from the sewer. The explanation given was that it just happens to the ground floor units due to all the units above it, which is just not an acceptable answer. -Bathroom faucet constantly leaks out rusty water when it's first turned on. -Freezer would constantly have issues going into a defrost cycle and ruining my food. It was swapped with a new unit, and that new one developed the same defrost issue within 2 months. -Parking is atrocious, and Contract Tow should be ashamed for raising the annual $125 parking fee to $25 flat fee every month (now it's 300 total). You get no guest passes. Winter parking is terrible for guests as King Dr has a winter overnight parking ban. -People here are inconsiderate in general. Laundry machines are communal in the basement (10 washers, 10 dryers) as most units do not have their own laundry units. People will take up more than 3 washers/dryers at a time, and then leave their clothes in there for hours on end. If you don't do your laundry in the early morning or late at night, get ready to have to move peoples laundry out and deal with them crying about it. -Lease renewal is a joke. They jacked my rates up over $150 for a studio. I am moving out shortly, and checked that they listed my studio for the original rent I was paying instead of the lease increase. That is just ridiculous.
Sent in my application never got a call, text email from anyone at the leasing office. I called multiple times and never got an answer. Sent an email on Saturday which according to their website, and on the application form, both leasing and management office are open: OFFICE HOURS Monday-Friday10AM-6PM Saturday10AM-5PM Sunday12PM-5PM Please note, above are the Leasing Office hours. The Management Office will be opened Monday through Saturday. Spoke with somenamed Demisha who said no one was in the office Thursday, Friday, Sat or Sunday. So essentially 3 out of the 4 days that they have posted as open. Again, I was the one who had to constantly call without a response. And after all that ordeal, she tells me that my admin fee will be refunded in the form of a check in 30 days. Ridiculous, how can I be sure that I am going to get a response or even get my $425 if they are very difficult to get a hold of. I also find it extremely frustrating that I was the one that had to chase them down for a response. Please be careful when filing out application to live here as they lack basic business etiquette such as communication and basic customer service skills. If this was the awful experience applying I cant even begin to imagine how awful it must be to address any issues living there.
When moving in I explicitly asked about the roach problem I has seen in the reviews but was assured that this was not the case. Upon move in a dead roach fell out of my blinds. A couple months later: my apartment is infested. 3001 does indeed have a roach problem. No updates in the bathroom. Noise isn't too bad. The windows don't shut all the way and I have already had maintenance come but they did nothing but add a bit of caulk. Small flies are now entering my apt through the hole they left. Lastly, the hallway consistently has trash in it.
I was shown an apartment that had potential. As soon as I walked in there, I turned on the water faucet Rusty water came out. Turn off number one the apartment actually look pretty decent. However, they had old outdated window air conditioners in every room. Keep in mind. This is a two bedroom, therefore the air conditioners were in three of the only rooms available (high electric bill) and as I mentioned, they were old and outdated. The hallways reeked of garbage because supposedly the garbage shoot was broken. my husband and I left the apartment and went home to discuss if we would proceed we were going to give it a chance however, the agent we were working with has not returned my call for the last four days I’ve called over eight times and no one has even called me back. All bad signs. I definitely don’t think it’s worth it. Beware at your own risk
I moved here last year in the summer and let me just say it has been traumatizing! Not only is there pest issues but there are people who steal packages every day. Not to mention my car was stolen in the parking lot to my building. I paid for a parking pass and it was still stolen. They will also towe your car no matter if you have a parking pass or not! I can smell all of my neighbors food through the vents. This is not a safe complex to live in. For the price I’m paying, it is NOT worth it! You have been warned. The only thing good here is the renovated units. If you want to keep your car run far away from this place. It will either be stolen or towed.
Our Chief Engineer and Staff keeps our building in top shape. They respond to situations and handle them with ease. The tenants respect them as they respect us.
This property is terrible. Prices are going up every year and on top of that the buildings are infested with roaches

I have been living in this place for at least three years, and the experience totally sucks, especially recently. This place may look fancy at the first glance. However, the building is actually very old. Thus, both the public and the private components in this place are frequently broken. Nevertheless, it is very difficult for me to get help from the apartment and the management office. In this place, they provide a customer service phone call. During the call, they provide a list of different types of services, but the list is too general so you are never able to find the correct one for help. The officers and technique people are lazy, rude, and out of the patient. They will stop the conversation at any moment they like, and they never respect your request. Their services always lack efficiency even when you are facing a terrible situation. The reason why these officers are so lazy is that they are out of supervision. There is no way that you can report their terrible behaviors and attitudes. The management service of this place is a total mess. Recently, the apartment tried to make some unnecessary changes to the building (they are annoying) to get the building a fancy looking so that they can increase the rent. However, for terrible customer service and the old necessary building components (like the discontinuous supply of hot water, old elevators, pet noise from your neighbor, and the dirty trash system), this apartment is doing nothing. DO NOT move into this apartment because of the fancy advertisements. It does not worth your rent money!

Living here since 2018. Extremely bad apartments because of the following reasons: 1. Dirty water in the pipes in the shower. 2. Water does not drain properly in the shower. 3. Roaches everywhere, even when I keep my apartment pristine. No use even if you get past control every other week. The always creep up. Even after you get past control every 2 weeks. You may die of cancer, but not those roaches. 4. Sewer smell in the entire apartment. 5. It is your lucky day if more than 4 washers work. 19 floors-18 units each floor- 4 people each apt minimum -4 washers do your math. 6. Be ready to get locked in your apt in the summer. Because, the door swell up and try to pull it, the handles comes into your hand. And, nobody comes to rescue you until a day and half. Nobod comes fixes things, they just and look at your complaints and treat you like an idiot. You may think try connecting with the management. Good luck connecting with them. If you are paying this much rent you are better off living somewhere else. New management does nothing. They just beautify everything from the outside, but everything is rotting from the inside. I am getting out from here.

Hello, Thank you for sharing your feedback and we are sorry to hear about the pest concerns. Please contact the Management Office at 312.589.7700 for us to address.
The leasing office has some of the nicest employees however, the management staff is terrible. No one answers the phone, nor return phone calls. Even prior to Covid, when you attempt to enter the building that houses the management office, they do not answer the bell! Leasing had to let you in and then head down to the management office. Where personnel would be present and hosting conversations amongst themselves. Which makes sense why they are not available to answer the phone.

Dear Resident, Thank you for sharing your feedback. We are sorry to hear about your experience relating to the Management Office. We apologize for missing your calls. We will adjust our procedures to ensure all concerns are addressed timely.
DON'T LIVE HERE !! I found a collection from Prairie Shores in my credit report recently. I called the collection company, they told me this is the utility bill I owe in October 2016, which is the month I moved in. I had not received any notice about this bill from Prairie Shores during the days I was there, and the collection company never contact me and then gave me a collection directly. I doubt that the bill is even not to me, it has a joint responsibility person that I don't know. Disappointed with the management of Prairie Shores they're so irresponsible!
This complex has its priorities all wrong. They claim to have all these great amenities and services but as I have been here for 3 years now I can tell you it is not true. They spend money and time on dumb national "holidays" like doughnut day or cookie day. That's great and all but I much rather you spend time on improving things that tenants actually care about and not free cookies or doughnuts. We pay more rent to have a laundry room and we also pay to do our laundry. So I expect washers and dryers to work so that I don't have to go to a laundromat to do my laundry. This has been an issue since I started living at Prairie Shores and nothing has changed. The other issue that has not changed is the package situation. I am not able to get packages delivered to my own apartment because they will get stolen. I have to get my packages delivered to other people's houses so I can actually receive my stuff. Every day I walk through the lobby there are packages just laying everywhere. What good is a package room if it is not used? This is another issue that prairie shores does not seem to care to do anything about. We pay a lot for rent and we as tenants want to get the same value for what we pay. Rent has gone up every year since I have been here and my apartment has not gotten any nicer, and these issues have not gotten any better. So what exactly am I paying more rent for? Do yourself a favor and find a place with real value.

The management is horrible they do not fix anything. The building I was in had roaches all over it, toilet only flushes if you use cheap toilet paper, the tub always drains slow, the gym machines never work. The building maintenance staff is great and polite. It's a great location would be even better if management was better.

worst apartment ever!!! They will charge you for cleaning fee even though you clean the apartment very well and others fees you are not responsible for! If you don't pay, they will send claims to IQ international Inc who force you to pay, otherwise it affect your credit history! Moreover, it is very dangerous place and lost of crimes happened. Prairie Shores is the worst!!!

Unsafe neighborhood, ignorant management, expensive and outdated, Bugs loaded, overcrowded dorm, ridiculous package delivery and parking service
My AC unit broke around 10th of june and I have contacted prairie management to resolve this issue. Here is the list of events that happened. First call around June 10 - complaint registered but no action was taken Second call around june 25 - No action again Visited Management center in the building around July 10 - I was told that there is no record of my complaint and a fresh complaint was taken but again no action july 15 - visited management center again and thid time a guy visited my apartment and said a capacitor needs to be replaced and he placed an order for it and claimed he would visit next week July 20-25 - called prairie management and no action again complained again in aug 1st week aug 2nd week - visited management center and complaint was taken and I was told to expect him today( aug 15). I waited successfully for more than 65 days without my AC
of course this apartment is close to downtown, not bad location, the environment, also not bad. But I would give 0 star if allowed. because this apartment itself very awful management, especially their packages management. They have a package delivery room holding all building's deliveries, but you know what, when go for it, just forget it, they'll not find your package, and your package just lost. Ignore your tracking information, it won't guarantee your package is here. it just lost for no reason. I would say 7/10 times you won't get your package, but you'll probably still wait there for about 20 min until they tell you they cannot find it. This building also has roaches, ants, flies....they got really old refrigerators that gonna cost your electricity quite a lot. They got a contract with internet company with a high monthly rate, you don't have a choice of your internet plan, but what you paid is much higher than the service you have, you'll get more at the same price if you can choose. This is completely not a place where you can get what you paid for.

This apartment are the worst to live in Chicago. Have a huge parking space but to park your car in the parking space require you to get a sticker from management office. But you need to own the vehicle in order to get a parking sticker. If you leased or rented a car you get a temporary sticker which is valid for a week. So basically you need to go to management office every week in case you need a parking sticker for your leased car. The management thinks you have whole time in universe to visit them every week. They are so rude that it seems that they are doing so much work and the residents are disturbing them. DON'T FALL IN THERE SWEET TALK BECAUSE ONCE YOU SIGN THE LEASE THEY WON'T CARE. I hope this management team was well educated and had learnt some etiquette when they were in school.
Management is absolutely terrible. Took over a month to get approved in which they did not come back in contact to let me know I was approved. Completely decided not to live there after that. They are lazy and also after reading about the roaches I am completely relieved I chose not to live there!
When I moved in a few years ago, Prairie Shores was a great place to be! However...the quality of management, the slow response to maintenance requests, the occasional roach infestation and now the overwhelming smell of weed is just a turn off. You have to stalk the management office to even place a work order and the attitudes at that office leave something to be desired. Now I see why so many people are leaving. So am I.
Prairie Shores Apartments is a very nice place to live, walking distance to the lake front and the beach, soldiers field, restaurants and night life. Public transportion at your door. Free parking and beautiful views of the city. Apartments are very comfortable floor to ceiling windows with great amenities.
This apartment is great if you're looking for something simple yet attractive/comfortable. The first great thing about the building is that since I've been here, I haven't seen any bugs; not even little ants. The next great thing is that the walls are thick and you can hardly hear your neighbors. Thirdly, its in a great location -- just a few bus stops to the Magnificent mile and its close to DePaul & IIT. Fourthly, they are awesome at understanding if you can't make rent for the first few days after it's due. Also, they are very respectful of your space and leave little notes if they need to come into the apartment. Note though, that I said this apartment is simple. If you are one looking for something extravagant, look somewhere else. I'll recommend to college students or people looking for a place to stay for a few years.
Prairie Shores is a great place to live if your a single person (like myself) looking for something cozy or a family looking to expand! Everything is extremely convenient laundry room, fitness center, coffee machines, vending machines business center and recreation room! The bus stop is literally right outside your door and everything is within walking distances park, beach, shopping mall, restaurants etc. I've lived here 4 years so far and I look forward to many more! I love everything about Prairie Shores!
It is what it is. Apartments across Chicago are overpriced, and it hurts. Still, you could do worse than Prairie Shores. Had roaches at one point, but there was a prompt response and the exterminators know what they're doing. It's exactly halfway between my work and my girlfriend's, so it's perfect for us. Free lot parking for renters (although you can't find any after midnight) and free street parking otherwise. It's a medium walk to trains (15 minutes for CTA, 10 for metra), but there's a bus stop just outside the gates. 20-ish minute bus ride into downtown. Very driveable area, and it's just off of the interstate. The biggest plus has to be the 10 minute walk to the 31st street beach. So yeah, in the end, it's an okay place to live.
If you are looking for an affordable place to live near downtown Chicago where parking is free, then this is the place for you. It is conveniently located near major highways and has public transport available (CTA bus) right in front of the building gate. The buildings are slightly old (but they do have upgraded apartments at a but extra cash) and amenities are limited. But rent is very reasonable (comes with free parking, cable and utilities) and you can save good amount of money on living expenses.
This highrise is located in the historical Bronzeville area of Chicago. Just off of the #3 bus line, this building is a quick 15-20 minute ride to downtown Chicago. The rent is affordable in comparison to the surrounding area and the amenities are great! All units are carpeted with air conditioner units. This building also has laundry, on-site maintenance and a fitness center.
It's pretty decent apartment right next to lake. Its quite nice for commute as you get cta bus frequently and all the interstates(which ever goes through downtown... ) exits are close by. The 31st harbour is near by and the lake trails and beach are by walkable distance. Apart from that the car parking is free for tenants. It's pretty good for students and you find lot of IIT students living over here as its near by.Well for things you need to be aware are its pretty old buildings(but pretty well maintained) , school district isn't that nice and the neighbourhood, which sometimes people get used to it if you have lived close to any major cities.
