Just one subway stop from Midtown Manhattan and the Upper East Side, Long Island City sits along the East River with spectacular views of the city skyline. Since it once served as a manufacturing hub, a variety of former industrial buildings now house historic lofts. Luxury condos also dominate the landscape, along with a smattering of low-rise apartment buildings and single-family houses, providing a unique mix of architecture to suit any renter’s lifestyle. Living in this Queens neighborhood will put you close to not only Manhattan, but also trendy neighborhoods like Williamsburg in Brooklyn.
If you're planning to move to Long Island City, you might be wondering what the cost of living is, and how it compares to the rest of New York. Like much of NYC, the cost of living in Long Island City is high — roughly 80 percent higher than the national average. Those fantastic views and being less than 10 minutes from Manhattan by subway come at a cost.

Property Ratings at QLIC
Management is inhumane, inconsiderate and honestly repulsive. I reached out at the beginning of the pandemic for relief as I had a near death experience and have been paying off large hospital bills followed by my Covid lay-off. I was told there wasn’t anything they could do. Flash forward, I reached out again as they’re offering 4 months free rent, riders for tenants to get out of leases without penalty and upgrades to larger apartments. They still won’t provide any relief. I’ve paid on time monthly and had all plans to renew for years to come, but their poor treatment of current tenants is appalling. FIND HOUSING ELSEWHERE
The woman work in management office is very mean. And that's why me and my friends both left.
The property itself seems pretty nice - but overall not the quality that is advertised. The building has several "3rd parties" that are involved with management, packages, concierge, etc. so you run into a lot of "left hand doesn't know that the right hand is doing." Ultimately, it seems like the building management doesn't care. For example, the vents in some of the apartments haven't worked since the building first opened. Oven light bulbs are always blowing out (and managements charges quite a nice profit to change them - instead of just the cost). Gym equipment goes weeks and weeks without repair. With all of the nice building that are opening up in the area - this one really isn't worth it.
This place will not get new tenants easily once all the new buildings in LIC open up for lease later this year. The general manager is extremely combative, and they will not compensate you for living with faulty, broken features in the apartment that they cannot fix. In order to get something fixed after months of waiting, I had to get into a shouting match with the general manager during which I felt very unsafe and personally attacked. The staff and super are very nice and courteous to the tenants, but they are supposedly very unhappy with management as well. There are brand new buildings all around which will offer far better pricing and amenities (and hopefully, better management). I cannot wait for my lease to end.
I've been living in QLIC for a month now with my wife. So far, the experience has been great - helpful doormen/front office staff, beautiful views, train noise not obnoxious (you get used to it very quickly), amazing staff and clean amenities (Gym, lounge, pool, etc). Right next to the N,Q,7 trains, and 5 min walk to E,M,R,G,F trains. Up-and-coming area with new restaurants popping up frequently. The number of new buildings going up is insane. The only downsides so far are the other tenants - it trends on the younger side (which is fine) but they can be a little disrespectful of common areas, especially on Saturdays/Sundays. And, to be fair, a lot of the issues are with guests of tenants who don't live here and don't feel a need to keep things clean/in good shape for everyone else. But, guests are the tenants responsibility - and some people are making the experience worse for others. HOWEVER - the overall experience is amazing. Hector is an amazing building manager and Yves is working to schedule cool events/happenings for everyone. I pay $400 less a month than my manhattan place for a new building with amazing views, closer to the subway, with a balcony and a pool. No brainer, really.
There is a strip club right across the street. You can hear the base of the music from your apartment, parking clutters the street because of it, rando's hang out outside of the club late at night - and quite honestly it does not feel safe walking home alone at night anymore. You must walk past this place to get to the subway. Suggestion - get something on the other side of the bridge For the amount of money you pay in rent - just not worth it You will have to walk by that club every day on your way to the subway . Real estate agent didn't disclose that to me !

If I am living in a luxury doorman building, I don't certainly expect this QLIC poor quality built; walls and floors are extremely thin. I can hear my neighbor's footsteps, banging noise every time my neighbor close kitchen cabinet. I can also smell my neighbor's food, shower soap, etc. I can also hear every conversation in outside of apartment if they are talking in a hall way, elevator hall, etc. Unfortunately, this could not be spotted in a briefly viewing tour. Those thing are bothering me daily basis. I feel like as it's like someone is always in my personal space, I don't want to know what my neighbors are cooking, etc.. I used to live in a different luxury doorman building, but I didn't notice those issues I am having. If you have low tolerance for noise /smell issue, I don't recommend this apartment.

A-part-(of the internet)-ment (meant) is a website meant to show in-depth and precise details about the listing that matches to virtual tour. Well laid out information. As for the QLIC building, it is spectacular not only its in location but also its concept that it remains true to - resort / home in the heart of LIC. Can't wait to move in.
