Anoka is a city along the eastern banks of the Mississippi River roughly 30 minutes north of Minneapolis. Anoka is known for all things spooky, as it’s coined the “Halloween Capital of the World.” The city held one the of the first Halloween parades in the country, and it continues to pay homage to the holiday with several parades happening through the month of October. During the other months, Anoka is characterized as a delightful Twin Cities suburb.
A resort-like golf course, tree-lined streets, and an exciting downtown corridor all complement the peaceful residential sections of the city. Head to East Main Street for an array of family-friendly dining and shopping spots. On the edge of downtown, Rum River features parks, trails, and the historic Rum River Dam. Of course, more outdoor recreation lies along the Mississippi River.

Property Ratings at Rainbow Plaza Apartments
The entire building smells like cigarette smoke inside. Units have the "landlord special" (everything is poorly painted over with white paint). Building does not look like it's never been renovated at all since it was built. Might be okay if you can get over secondhand smoke, but I just could not take it in here.
This apartment is dirty and dangerous. Me and my partner have been living here for almost a year. I have found used drug needles on the apartments property on many occasions. We have had 3 fires in the past 6 months and management has given zero explanation to any of the tenants about what happened with any of them. Also, management will not answer your calls or return your calls when you leave them a message; management will lie to you about things that they hide in their leasing agreements; you will never get anything in your apartment fixed even if you call them multiple times about your problem. The units in the building are very poorly done and we have had problems with bugs in our cupboards since the day we moved in. There are also many problems with the other tenants living in this building, we have had people trying to kick in our door and messing with our door knob for months now. There are no cameras in the building hallways at all so if someone were to break in there would be no way of telling who it was. We would end our lease early if it wasn’t $2000+ to do so.
They don’t answer the phone when you try and get in contact with the office. The maintenance never comes to fix any of your problems. The management is rude and doesn’t care about their tenants once you move in and start paying. The neighbors are rude and loud all hours of the night and they do nothing about it. I don’t recommend this apartment to ANYONE.
Some units have been renovated, others have 20+ year old appliances. Windows are finally being replaced. Plowing has been consistent for the first time in years. In the past, they waited until it stopped snowing to plow so you'd get stuck in the parking lot. At least now they keep it so it's drivable. Could do a better job managing the ice though. Someone let their dog crap in the stairwell and it wasn't cleaned up for a week. People move out and leave their junk by the elevators and it sits there for weeks. Attempts are definitely being made to improve the building, which is great, but it was definitely cleaner and there were less tenent issues when they had onsite caretaking staff. The building was cleaned on a daily basis. Now it's cleaned maybe one a week. The trash bins are always overflowing. It would be nice if they added an additional weekly pickup. Management has always been pleasant and helpful in my experience.
I really used to like living here. I've lived here 8 years, and it was just kind of...what it is. It was a cheap apartment that was nice, people were nice, and the building was well-enough maintained, if not old. No more. This place is terrible now, and it's too bad. They've really raised the rent, most of the people I spoke to had their rent suddenly raise about $200. They take care of NOTHING, I have complained so many times about the tiles in my shower that keep falling off. I had to just grout them on myself to take a shower. They're going to have to gut these bathrooms-there is water damage everywhere. I have numerous water damage stains on my ceiling. They're also TERRIBLE at communication-I've lived in apartments for 20 years, and I've never seen anything like it. We apparently switched garbage services, and went nearly an actual week without a garbage can. Seriously! I have pictures of piles and piles of garbage sitting outside. They work on plumbing in the middle of the night, turning the water off at 10 and on again at 6am (if you're lucky, it's only been back on in time once). Bam-bam-bam on the pipes is all you hear all night. They work on things whenever they want to, usually about 7am you hear them hammering or drilling. They are working on the stupidest, most arbitrary things for "improvement," and I know it's only to try to be able to justify raising the rents hundreds of dollars for nothing. They replaced all the balconies, which were fine, and the trim around the garages. They added a credit card machine to the washers and dryers, and full camera systems EVERYWHERE. The old owners had bought a bunch of carts from Kmart when they closed to allow us to bring groceries in, and now maintenance has them ALL sitting in the apartments they are working on. There is no on-site caretaker, and office hours are regular M-F 8:30-5ish hours. They don't plow, and then once the snow has melted, they send a notice asking you to move your car so the road can be "scraped." They randomly close the laundry rooms or office or elevator or whatever they feel like with no notice. It's just miserable now, I am so happy I only signed a 6 month lease. It's sad after 8 years of living here I'm so happy to leave. Jack wasn't perfect, but he was fair. These people are just ripoffs. I do NOT recommend living here, it is TOO expensive for what you get. Look around for other places in the area.
I've lived here for about 2 years now, and things have changed! The building used to be owned by a different company, who had on-site caretakers (people who actually lived there), but since they have been bought out by another company and the caretakers have moved out, there have been several break-ins! Cars have been broken into, our outgoing mailbox has been broken into, and so have some of the storage units! Also, since the company change, they want to increase our rent by hundreds of dollars without making any known improvements to the building, amenities, or apartments. We've also had a lot of trouble with a few people at the office not being very helpful, and who seem to have an attitude that they're being inconvenienced if they are asked anything. We also do not feel safe after learning that there are squatters living in the woods behind the parking lot! The maintenance crew that used to work there prior to the company change did not do a good job of maintaining the apartment. Several times we had to call them about our ceiling leaking water in our bedroom closet, bathroom, and kitchen. All they did to "fix" it was patch up the crumbling popcorn ceiling multiple times until we had to contact the building manager, then they finally looked into the problem further and actually fixed it. Our closet and kitchen ceilings were never patched up after that, so we're worried they won't give us our deposit money back due to the old maintenance crew's bad work. The only reason we put up with it so long is because the apartment rent was cheap, but not anymore. We don't want to pay more for our still crappy apartment! So, needless to say, we are tired of all these issues and are moving!
My husband and I just moved in on 12/01/15 and really like living here so far! The management is nice and the caretakers are helpful and do a great job of maintaining the building's cleanliness and keeping the parking lot plowed. The rent is very affordable and the units are roomy! It is located right off of Hwy 10 & W Main Street, and is not very far from Hwy 169 and the Anoka/Champlin bridge. It is also not far from shopping in Main Street Anoka, and in Coon Rapids- Riverdale area.
Rainbow Plaza is an alright place to live. The apartments are huge and the rent is affordable. There is even an elevator and some apartments come with decks. There are also garages available to rent.
