As one of Richmond's oldest neighborhoods, Shockoe Valley dates back to 1737 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Shockoe Valley contains several smaller neighborhoods, including Upper Shockoe Valley. Upper Shockoe Valley begins along East Broad Street, directly north of Shockoe Slip and Shockoe Bottom. It borders the MCV Campus Virginia Commonwealth University and I-95 on its east side, with North 18th Street to the west. The Virginia State Capitol is adjacent to the neighborhood, just south of Broad Street.
Being on the east side of Downtown Richmond, Upper Shockoe Valley apartments are often within walking distance of all things downtown, including the Richmond Coliseum, the Greater Richmond Convention Center, the Dominion Arts Center, and the National. Within the neighborhood, you'll find shops and restaurants along 18th Street, including Shockoe Valley Market and the popular Shockoe Valley Pizza & Bar.

Property Ratings at Raven Place
Currently living here and its TERRIBLE. To begin, the parking is an absolute nightmare, either have to resort to parking on the street or get on “waitlist” for underground parking. It was available parking in back of building but since trashmen cant get by the city gives tickets to anyone parked. It’s ridiculous, also they charge a $40 “convenience” fee on top of rent for valet trash pickup but maintenance rarely picks it up. The smells through back doors are horrible especially in summer time. If you email maintenance about a problem they take weeks to get it checked out. Only plus is at least the apartments are very spacious!

Thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We apologize for the inconveniences you have experienced during your time in our community. Please contact the office so that we can discuss these concerns and provide clarification on the rental payment convenience fee.
This is the WORST apartment I have ever had to live in. Please save your money and read the RECENT reviews. Upon moving in last summer (June, 2021), there was an issue with mold in my unit. It took over 3 months and a threat of legal action for someone to even look at the apartment. Then, the issue was not resolved and mold continued to grow in my laundry and bathroom areas. There is also a HUGE issue with mail in this apartment building. You are required to may a $30/mo fee for trash and the package lockers, but there are only about 20 lockers to serve the entire building, so mail is often left in the lobby and stolen. Many of my neighbors have resorted to using the address of other family and friends to ship their packages. Additionally, the trash service is awful. Since the hallways are not ventilated, they REEK in the summer months, and trash is left outside at all hours. The trash room also gets so full it becomes difficult to even open the door. If you have ANY accessibility needs or rely on an elevator this is ABSOLUTELY the last place you want to live. Currently, the elevator has been broken for over 12 days (for the second time in the past month). The office hasn't notified residents of any timeline for the repair, and continues to ignore our calls and emails. Save your money, and live somewhere else!
Lived there for a year, would not recommend to anyone. Management is impossible to contact and very unresponsive. Parking is truly a nightmare and it takes months to get off the waitlist for the overpriced reserved parking. The street noise is excessive, blasting music until 3-4 AM, way more than the usual city noise of ambulances, traffic etc. Our dishwasher broke multiple times and it was impossible to get someone to actually fix it. The roof leaked at one point shortly after we moved in and ruined a brand new piece of furniture, as we were moving out it leaked again so clearly they don’t care to fix the known issues. The price is slightly lower than some other places in Shockoe but definitely not cheap enough for what you get. The turnover in the building speaks for itself!
This apartment is cool, "chic" as my uncle calls it. pretty spacious one bedroom loft with beautiful exposed brick walls and modern appliances. The building is placed perfectly downtown Richmond, VA and is the definition of convenient. Attacked to the building is a convenient store, and right out the front door is the University shuttle stop. Also its in walking distance to multiply bars and restaurants, promoting a fun and safe social life.
