Property Ratings at Renaissance Hills at Ellicott City
Management has very poor customer service. The renovated apartments are a rush job.The paint piles off, It take them months to repair emergencies.
When they complete the request it is usually poor quality. For example, there was a roof leakage in November 2022, there was no proper fix to the roof so far.
Freshly renovated apartments look pretty but it's clear that they were completed as cheaply as possible. Outlets not working, shelves installed improperly, a gap between the dishwasher and an uninsulated wall so cold air comes into the kitchen, etc. Maintenance team is woefully unprofessional and certainly operates below the level you expect when paying for a 'luxury' apartment. As a great example of the customer service one can expect, the office closed early on 11/23/2022. While totally reasonable for the upcoming holiday, the office notified all residents that the office was due to close at 2:00 PM that day in an email sent out at 1:59 PM. They also sold the contact information of all residents to a commercial company called "flex" who try to dupe residents into taking on credit-based rent payments. Lastly, the apartment complex is taking on significant financial risk by renovating multiple apartments simultaneously while capital is expensive in the US. Prospective tenants should have significant negotiating power as I doubt they can leave apartments vacant that long. If I did it again, I wouldn't agree to pay more than 90% of the current advertised rents.
If you face no issues with the apartment then it's OK, else the maintenance is terrible. They will keep you hanging for weeks and close down requests. And the cycle continues. Iam facing issue with the washer dryer, although it's provided in the apt, it has issues. Iam getting laundry done outside by paying extra money.
Apartments are being renovated as people move out. Cable lines to various apartments were cut during renovation but management is reluctant to accept responsibility. The money, they want for cookie cutter apartments that were once old is too much. Apartments aren’t fixed they appear to be more attractive but not high quality.
I am in this community for quite a few years but from the time the property moved to the renaissance hills the service , maintenance, outside cleaning, waste management , everything changed drastically. They are also changing the landscape to be more gorgeous. I am loving every day of my stay here with my family. I would give a five star review to this property. Also the pool side view is beautiful. The management team is outstanding.
I've been living here for the past 5 years and have seen many companies come and go but renaissance hills have been very very very good to us. I've seen so many changes and cannot wait for the new updates! The office staff and maintenance crew are so helpful and so caring. I love it here and recommend everyone to come and check it out!
If you like your water being shut off for ‘maintenance’ without notice this is the place for you! If you like construction noises on Saturday a.m for remodeling units this place is also for you! They might send you a link to apply to be a lifeguard since there are shortages ???? what a joke
The new management that bought the property is forcing out residents who have lived here for years. Either pay the ridiculous increase in rent for an un-updated unit or get out. Gentrification at its finest. I love living here for now, but fear being priced out when my lease ends. I should not live in fear simply because some landlords decided they wanted to make a profit off of peoples lives.
Called to inquire about an apartment, the staff was extremely nice & professional!
We just recently moved in and I am loving my beautiful fully renovated apartment. Management and leasing department both have been so easy to work with and my relocation to Maryland went so smooth! Cant wait to see the new clubhouse they are renovating.
I was impressed with the professionalism and patient I recieved. The apt that I saw was perfect just right for me.

There has been some plumbing issues in the bathroom above my apartment and there was a water leakage in my bedroom, living room and bathroom. My whole house was flooded over the July 4th long weekend with water leaking from ceiling and electrical fittings. They did some kind of temporary fix but water continues to leak from the bathroom ceiling. The house has developed a stench because of the wet carpets. Fungus and mold has developed in the wet ceiling. My request for a relocation is yet to be processed and its been more than a week since the leak was first reported. Office staff is very RUDE and will do anything to avoid meeting us when we come up with issues. They never respond on time and delaying tactics seems to be the norm. AVOID THIS COMMUNITY.

I will try make it short. 1. TV delivered to my address at 2 pm. When I was home, it was stolen. That's the neighbourhood. Refrigerator was not working. They brought small miniature fridge and it has already been two weeks. They still say they ordered a parts and don't have any other solutions. 2.Customer care is inefficient. I hope someone teaches them how to do their job efficiently. 3.Buildings are really old. Creaking sound all over the my apartment while I walk. 4.I was mislead about the type of the kitchen at the time of leasing. Multiple emails with different information. Inefficient. I will keep on adding whenever I have time. There are other things too.

The staff that works there is very unprofessional!! I called to ask if there were any availabilities at 11:30am and they said that a agent will get back with you I waited for 2 hours and called back than they said she went on a lunch break and will get back with you when she comes back than I waited for another 3 hours and finally when I got upset at them they got me with the agent and showed me the model apartment. They sent me the link for the application and for some reason my application was not submitting and I called the next day to get some help and they did the same thing again they told me a agent will get back with you and I literally called 10 times to get in touch with someone and they did not help me! I mean if they treat their future residents like this than how do they treat their tenants... this was a very poor experience the staff is literally lazy and unprofessional and not welcoming at all. I had also checked out different apartment complexes and they treat first time tenants with priority they even call back as they promised and helped out but this place is ridiculous.

Worst apartment ever. We can't wait to move out of this Apartment. Mice infested everywhere. Old apartments. Never fall for rent specials, they give the oldest apartment in their community. Customer service very mean. After being calling them so many times they don't even understand our frustration about the issue. Again, worst apartment ever.

We lived here for almost 4 years in a 1 bedroom 1 bath. Any issues we had maintenance was out to fix. During covid it was a little harder because somethings weren’t as urgent as others. My only complaints are the 2 in 1 washer/ dryer . It takes all day to do a load of laundry!!! And the toilet takes 2 or 3 flushes because it’s a water saving type of toilet. The pool couldn’t be used this year. It’s a nice pool! Hardly anyone ever there. When it snowed they were out there right away plowing the roads for us. Over all great place to live!

Although there were several things occurred during my stay to affect the renewal of my lease (2 years resident), I was really considering it was the past. However, many of the more recent valid reviews I read on this site suggest it's not. I am moving because I was interested in a bigger apartment, but cannot be offered a price new residents are offered, or any significant discount. It cost less to move somewhere else as you get the benefits of a new residents (a month off and/or lower rent for a year). I understand the prices on the site reflect the benefits they are offering for this current month. Please read all the reviews as well as remember you lease will significantly raise in one year and you will NOT have the benefits of the apartment (pool, fitness center, computer or even ability to walk in the office) for most of this year. Secondly, regarding previous reviews, I have had several of those complaints before. I had pests, a ant infestations each summer but I also had a bat enter my home after scheduled maintenance was done. Both of these previous issues I took care of. I had one other issue, but I remain steadfast in the belief that it was someone associated with the previous rental office who is no longer employed there caused it. So I won't mention it except to say that I went through a lot to get reimbursed for something not my fault. So I understand previous reviews well. I do want to end that Danielle in the leasing office was able to answer all my questions and I appreciated that. I understand she is only allowed to offer what her management insists...
I have leaved here more than 2 years and found over the period front office team service is very poor, they do not know about customer service. Also, buildings are very old, maintenance, I am ending up calling the service every week 2 times due to issues, they don't replace faulty equiment instead repair. One fix another break.. very bad in my experience. Better get some other apartment with same price or a little higher price.
I've lived in two apartments here over four years. The office staff is responsive to most concerns, and maintenance does a good job of dealing with any serious issues. The apartments are generally well kept. Two big problems: the gym and the pool. The gym is maintained to a minimum, and after hours people often bring their kids along, who then get on the equipment. Cleaning supplies haven't been replenished in months, and the AC hasn't worked this season. The pool: for some reason, they think if they fill it in April, it will be warm by June. This never works, and this season there were three geese and five ducks living there by opening day. The pool management company does the bare minimum; some of the guards are very good, but the quality is uneven, and there is no management supervision.
This complex has no security. None! Every other day I see another vehicle without wheels sitting on blocks. This is happening at a rate of two or more per month. Don't move here with a decent vehicle.
I received great customer service from one of the leasing consultants named Ayah. She was incredibly informative, professional and personable! Home buying/renting is so stressful but she really succeeded in making sure I was satisfied!
Property Manager at Renaissance Hills at Ellicott City, Responded To This Review
Thank you so much for your review! We will be sure to share your kind words with Ayah (we think she's pretty terrific, too!). Please let us know if there's anything we can do for you.
I am a current resident, these apartments are very old and the appliances are substandard for the price you pay. The issues with the apartments are plenty. The vent hood is a joke, it doesn't extinguish smoke or smell, it's just a show piece and doesn't really work. Be aware with the 2 bed 2 bath, some of these apartments doesn't let you open your refrigerator fully, the kitchen is so narrow and your washer and dryer come in the way of opening your refrigerator and you can open only 60%. The washer and dryer are stacked in kitchen and very old, you dry two cycles they are still wet. The air condition doesn't properly work and leave the master bedroom very cold in the winter and very hot in summer, forcing you to buy your own heater and coolers. One more thing, the apartment doesn't offer a microwave. The apartments are so old time again it flood your apartment from the people above uses their washer and dryer. The filthy water fills your sink. This happened so often, even after repairing numerous times, it doesn't stop happening. I think the apartments are so old, there is no remedy. The blinds and bathroom fixtures are substandard, if you touch them they will break. The closet doors doesn't often sit on hinges, repeatedly come of with normal open and close. They say apartments are cable ready and when I move in the cable socket is empty, there is no cable wire attached. When I complained they say that I need to call Xfinity to fix it on my own cost ?? Is that cable ready? I paid Xfinity 50 dollars for that service. If the cable is in socket I don't need that service. The packages are getting stolen and repeatedly found the packages in open condition when you return home. After repeated complaints, management didn't bother to put surveillance. The apartment staff are not really nice, they feel that you are wasting their time.

I have lived with my spouse in Charleston Place for just over a year. We absolutely love it here. I read a few of the complaints and maybe there are noisier buildings and buildings in more need of repair than ours. We do have updated appliances and they work pretty well. The dryer does take at least a cycle and a half, but that's a minor thing to me. The maintenance staff is great! We've had to call for a few minor things and a few emergency calls (smoke alarm low battery and a clogged toilet) - they respond quickly, they fix the issue quickly and have always been courteous. They also worked around the clock to dig out the community during the major snowstorm. This is a great community for families.

nice area, rent is above average, but overall its ok
My apartment is not perfect, but it is a pretty great place to live. If anything breaks 1 phone call or email and a maintenance worker shows up quickly and repairs it. I really like the secured access into the building and the heavy duty sliding back door. I also really like that I gave a gas stove. Some things I am disappointed in are that due to the cheap wall paint I can't use Command Strips to avoid putting holes in the walls because it peels the paint off after I hang something up and I can't use them in the bathroom due to the gloss paint finish, they just won't adhere to it at all. When I tested the strips and hooks in the living room I only hung up my dog's leash on one and her collar on another. After a few days the entire plastic hook I had stuck on the wall just fell off and took the paint with it. Needless to say I can't hang anything up for decorative or functional purposes. It is a peaceful and quiet place to live and they up keep the grounds very regularly. There is a nice swimming pool and a little gym with some equipment, but I don't use either of these amenities. However, I do see quite a few others using them often.
This is my first apartment and it is a dream. I feel secure, I have speedy maintenance, it is very cost efficient and clean. The office staff is always helpful and friendly. Also, the added amenities are a perk. This may be hard to believe...but there is NO NOISE in the neighborhood! Everything I searched for I found in Charleston Place. I'm just in Love with Charleston Place.
