Property Ratings at Retreat at Austin Bluffs
I have never met such rude and disrespectful tenants. They blast music to the point of vibrating floors and walls. I was told at the time of lease signing that this complex doesn't allow for such extreme noise and yet nothing has changed. I have lived in apartments before and it has never been like this.

Hello, I would like the opportunity to discuss the details of your complaint so we can address the problem directly. Please feel free to contact me so that I can determine exactly which apartment the noise is coming from. Thank you, Doug Nelson Community Director Retreat at Austin Bluffs 719-426-3533 theretreatdir@weidner.com
Lived here for a year, was dreaming of my move out day after a month of living on the property. The pool was never cleaned in the year i was here. Their was a slime that covered the pool surface you could see at a distance. Their are infrequent walking paths, often none so lots of people after forced to walk their dog through the parking lot. The parking lot was closed off in sections the entire time i lived their for parking lot maintenance, leaving lots of people with no parking because their weren't enough spaces to start with. Additionally they would do nothing for a month at a time and then block off a different section of parking. Again for the full year i lived their. Worst by far was when maintenance tried to break into my apartment at 2am. I was told maintenance would only come if requested or if they had to do repairs they would contact via email and let me know when they would be working on stuff in my apartment. No email, no call- no even a last minute one. Instead, with zero warning at 2am a maintenance person tried to use a staff key to get access to my apartment. They only failed to get into my apartment because the neighbors had a habit of screaming at each other until the cops came, so i had a habit of putting my couch in front of the door since it had no additional security. The apartments are very old and worn. They had a renovations sign up full time even though they did nothing to the apartments to improve them.

Everything kept going wrong for me when I was apartment searching, 1 thing after another. Then I talked with Sheryl who went above and beyond to get my children and I into the community. We truly appreciate what she has done and continues to do for us. We love it here!!
Horrible apartment complex, do not move in you are not getting your money’s worth. They promise a safe gated community the back gate has been broke for the past year, the back wall in gate was broken off its hinge. I’ve had stuff stolen from right outside my apartment including my bike that was chained up. A heavy wind came and tore off the screen on our back patio and rather than replacing the screen they just stapled the same tattered and torn screen that was on there. Most dog owners don’t pick up there pets poop and the complex doesn’t take the initiative to take it upon themselves and have maintenance clean it up. There is so much poop behind my apartment my kid can’t even go out back and play tball with me. We had to move in 2 weeks later than agreed because something to do with the carpet well I found that the entire baseboard of my wall is broken you can see light shining into some parts of the giant hole that stretches from one end of our room to the other. There have been times I’ve gone to the pool with my family and poop and vomit were just floating in the pool while about 20 other people were there trying to have a good time. They were built in the 60s and you can tell because the walls are paper thin if you live on the bottom floor you can hear literally every foot step. Horrible apartment complex I would not recommend anyone live here.

My car was tagged for having expired plates. My plates did expire a month ago but I just moved here and obviously intended to update my tags. I don’t need the threat of having my car towed from the please I lease an apartment at, to compel me to update my plates. In the mean time, there’s no enforcement of the 10 MPH speed limit where I’ve seen a specific vehicle pulling excess of 30 MPH in the parking lot. The garbage is also not collected on a regular basis. But, my tags will be updated....yay.....
Property Manager at Retreat at Austin Bluffs, Responded To This Review
Hello, while we do not want vehicles to be towed from the property, the property is monitored to ensure all vehicles are following Colorado State Law in having up to date on registration. This also helps to prevent overcrowding of the parking lot of abandoned vehicles. I am glad you called the office and we were able to put an extension on the 72-hour notice in order for you to get updated registration. Please feel free to call the office to let us know specifically which vehicle you notice speeding on the property. In regards to the garbage, it is picked up every Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday by Waste Management. Large bulk items are called in for pick up on Thursdays. Please feel free to reach out to the office with any additional concerns or questions about the community.
When my family first moved in about 10 years ago, the apartment complex was absolutely beautiful. Maintenance kept up on the property, management used to do background checks and the property was mostly retirees, but noise and crime was still maintained. Over the years there has been a decline in the upkeep, but rent goes up every time you resign the lease-where does the money go? The lobby was redone a few years ago but most apartments still have outdated appliances that they won't replace because they "still work." Our stove gets hot to the touch on the outside-I dread a family with small children moving in after us. The bathrooms are out of code, the tiles are glued to cardboard. Our floor is caving in and the carpet wasn't replaced when we moved in. Maintenance no longer cares about the outside of the property either. They do a patch job on sidewalks when it snows but they don't shovel the parking lot anymore, so cars get stuck trying to get in and out and they don't put salt down. The gates never work, and our security is a joke. The guard is more concerned with fining people for out of date tags than enforcing apartment policy, and since they don't do background checks anymore there's a lot of noise at night, including fighting and music, and there's a lot of crime. Management has been writing everybody back about their concerns, but it's just for show. What everybody else says about the property falling apart is absolutely true. I wouldn't recommend this place to anybody, young or old, family or new couples, you'll get trapped in a complex that doesn't care about its tenants.

The walls in the complex are paper thin, so you'll hear everything. You might as well be in the same room as your neighbor. The sidewalks and roads are never plowed or salted after snowfall so you'll constantly fall on ice or slide doing 5 to 10mph trying to leave the complex. This community is not safe what so ever as they do not do background checks on their residence beforehand and people steal out of your car. The gates that are supposed to make it a gated community never work, so there is no amount of safety and the so-called security that is supposed to monitor the cul-de-sac is never around. The staff, especially the manager are rude and don't care about any type of complaint you make they all just put you off because they still get paid. Also the pool and indoor hot tub are almost always closed for maintenance that never happens, which usually means they don't pay for a cleaner because they're cheap.

Hi there, thank you for taking the time to post. I am sorry to hear of any inconvenience that you have experienced as that is definitely not the intent for our valued residents. Because I could not confirm you as a resident of Retreat I cannot reach out to you directly. I have confirmed with the Retreat at Austin Bluffs team that the property is always plowed and shoveled promptly after a snowfall and proper snow logs are recorded. A background check is performed for every applicant, and should the applicant pass the background check they are invited to continue the application process to become a resident at our community. We do have an on-site courtesy patrol that periodically patrols the community. The pool and hot tub is monitored daily and should the chemicals need to be rebalanced the pool or hot tub will be temporarily closed so that this process can be completed. If you would like to speak further about your resident experience please feel free to reach out to us by phone or email at (855) 411-9343 or customerservice@weidenr.com.
I like that the apartment is a nice, spacious size with lots of storage. My apartment had all new appliances when I moved in which I also consider a plus. But there are a few reasons that after just a couple of months i can't wait until I can move to a different place. First, laundry. One washer/dryer for the building (6 apartments). And small capacity so you end up doing a lot more loads than should be necessary. Plus every time I've tried to add money to my card the machine is not working properly. Honestly I've found it's easier to just go to a nearby laundromat and get it all done in one go. Second the furnace. It's SO LOUD. If I'm home watching TV and it kicks on I have to turn the volume up several notches to be able to hear. Third the kitchen. The wall cabinets are below normal height, so if you're short like I am getting to your dishes is not easy. Everything is above my head. I don't understand why whoever designed these kitchens didn't buy normal 30" wall cabinets that are available at any home improvement store. But by far my biggest complaint is parking. I typically don't leave work until 11 p.m. or later. By that time I really don't want to walk forever from where I parked to my front door. First, in the winter it's cold overnight. It's also not fun when there's snow, or I have anything other than my purse to take inside with me. Some nights I've driven around for a half hour or more looking for ANYTHING that's just on my street -- not even necessarily in front of my building. If they would assign even just ONE parking space per apartment I believe it would make a lot of people much happier. It would also many renters feel like the managers and staff actually care.

Hello. Thank you for your feedback. All of the 3 story buildings have washer and dryers on the first floor, and there are also 3 larger laundry rooms on the property with 4 sets of washer and dryers in each. You are welcome to use any laundry room on the property. If any of the machines or the card reader is not operational, please feel free to call the number on the machine to put in the service request with the company that services the machines, or call the office and we can enter in the service request. If you have not yet done so, please put in a service request online or with the office to have your furnace inspected for the loud noise. Unfortunately we do not have assigned parking at our property, however, we do always have open spaces for parking on the property. Please feel free to contact the office if you would like to discuss your concerns further. You may reach the office by phone or email at (719) 597-6102 or theretreat@weidner.com. Take care - The Retreat at Austin Bluffs Management Team
The "security" gates haven't worked consistently in our recent 3.5 years here or the 4 years we lived here in the early 2000s. My advice is to use the pools while the water is blue, before it turns green. Other reviews have stated, and I completely agree, the maintenance is ridiculous. I'd call it patching rather than repairing. We had a yearly "fix the ceiling above the shower and tub in both bathrooms" where the drywall would start to fall and they would come in, patch it up, and leave a mess for us. The moving out process was as big of a scam as many others have written about. There is a legal definition, I'm sure, of "wear and tear". These guys (Shun) have never heard of it. Everything that happens that they have to fix is damage. He informed me that they don't paint after every move out, only if they think they need to. I think that's either 1. a lie or 2. a horrible way to welcome a new resident. Anyway, there were parts of the wall that were dirty and he decided that it was damage. There were parts of the carpet that definitely needed to be replaced - he didn't and wouldn't look up the age of the carpet, he just decided that we should pay 40% of the price to re-carpet the whole apartment. There were other charges that we are totally fine with (cleaning) because they are justified. Shun is unprofessional and tactless. He was just doing his job, but he's not good at it. He could have taken the time to show me in writing why he decided that dirty walls are damage and not wear and tear. He could have shown me how old the carpet was and his justification for charging me for 40% of the cost. He could have listened but he'd rather argue and win. He and I both knew he would have the final word on how much we are charged, but he could have listened and explained instead of being a jerk and showing me how much power he has. Pretty cool how they can charge us for a month's rent and also clean it up, get a new tenant in, and charge them too for the same month. I would NEVER recommend this complex or Weidner based on how Shun treats people. The complex could work beautifully if they didn't jack the rent up AT LEAST $60 per month EVERY time you renew your lease and IF they gave a crap about tenants. I know they're in it to make money, but I believe they are doing it illegally when you move out. If you choose to live here I wish you a better experience than we had.
Overall, horrible experience. They can't fix anything and trash is all over the place. The staff is horrible and could use customer service classes. When moving in it wasn't cleaned and the carpet was stained. After getting it shampooed with the stains from the previous renter, I had to pay for it to be cleaned again even though I told them about it when I first moved in. Safety is also a very low priority on this apartment complex's list.
A young man named Daniel came to fix the grout and sealant between the tiles in my shower because they had been coming apart. when he left He clearly knew what He was doing. He noticed some of the sheetrock was Miss colored and so he went out of his way to pull off other tiles make sure everything was nice and clean under the surrounding tiles and he finish the work and it ended up being better than before we moved in. All looks great. Thanks
I would like to let you know that I am very pleased with the recent response to my last work order. The turnaround time was quick and the work thorough. Jason even contacted me to let me know that he did not find the leak, and that he needed more info from me. Now, this is resident satisfaction based on great customer service on repair request. Thank you Retreat at Austin Bluffs for hiring a thorough and knowledgeable employee as Jason. Renee R.
I am the exterminator for The Retreat at Austin Bluffs. I have been there for over 5 years. I am so impressed with the Office Team and the Manager!! These folks go above and beyond for their tenants!! If the tenants report a bug problem, the Management team turns it in to me immediately!! And pending on the the tenants cooperation, the bug issue gets resolved. Overall, this is a top notch apartment complex!!!
I unknowingly, because Ive never moved into a disgusting place, moved my family into a building in this facility that had bed bugs under the vinyl molding and under the carpet and carpet tacks on the floor. The management team apparently waited until several reports were filed until being proactive. I wish i could post pictures on here with what i found in the corners under the carpet and molding on the basevords of the walls. Save yourself the headache of washing and drying everything you own and having all your stuff sprayed with who knows what to get rid of the bugs.
Amazing complex. Staff is very helpful and apartments are clean and we'll maintained. Love everything about living here!
The apartment is very spacious at 720 sq ft. Others in the area are around 500. Love the amenities and office staff. The only down I have is there is no linen closet in the 1 bedroom apartments.
