Research Triangle Park employs roughly 50,000 people. It is the nation's largest research park, covering roughly 7,000 acres. Some of the companies located in the Triangle include Cisco, Biogen Idec, NIEHS, and BASF. The Triangle is convenient to three major universities: Duke, NC State, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The RTP neighborhood that surrounds the Triangle makes this not just a great place to work -- it's a great place to live. RTP is perfectly located, minutes from Raleigh, Chapel Hill, Durham, and the RDU International Airport.
RTP is the ultimate live-work-play community, complete with walking paths and green space. Along Apex Highway, you'll discover a terrific shopping and dining district, containing everything from gourmet restaurants to fast-food favorites. Parkside Town Commons, on the south side of the neighborhood, contains even more places to shop and dine.

Property Ratings at Retreat at RTP
Worst place I’ve ever lived and I’ve worked with at least 8 properties in my lifetime. The manager is completely rude, uncaring, and just not someone I want to ever speak to again. I was towed from my assigned spot THAT I PAY FOR and had to pay $200 to get my car. It is my assigned spot. I didn’t call for a tow. I had raw sewage in my apartment for over 12 hours. My toilet in my 1 bathroom apartment was nonfunctional for over 6 months. I couldn’t even have guests over because I wasn’t sure I would have a working toilet. There is constant noise on all sides of me. And the manager has done nothing but blame everyone else and not provide any type of customer/client care or support. Please do not bother living here. Listen to all of the other reviews. Maybe things were better prior to 2020, but now it’s awful and I cannot wait to leave.
Lived here for a year and couldn’t wait until I left. The location is close to many RTP offices, etc, but there is nothing else nearby, no grocery stores or restaurants, which makes it feel like an apartment island. Rent is comparable to similar apartments nearby. The newish furnishings are good, but the worst part about this place is the quality of construction. I could hear nearly EVERY step my upstairs neighbors made, & I had two different neighbors living there over time, so it wasn’t just one person’s habits. Also the walls are so thin I could very often make out what my next door neighbors were watching on TV. I would not recommend.

Hello. I am disheartened to find that you had a less than stellar experience while a resident, as our team strives to ensure that all residents receive a high level of service. While our community has a level of insulation between walls, ceilings and flooring - reasonable living-related noise is to be expected due to proximity of multifamily apartment buildings. We have taken a further measure to ensure our residents are comfortable with the addition of a Courtesy officer whom is also a member of local law enforcement. Our courtesy officer is available on a 24/7 basis to assist with exaggerated noise levels our residents may experience.-Davlin Pillay | Property Manager
Their sewage system has been clogging up for three months now and they wouldn’t resolve the issue or let you end your lease. It’s been a weekly issue, sometimes it clogs for more than a day and overflow on our bathroom floor. If you’re trying to say here good luck. Good luck finding parking, when you find one, good luck because their parking spaces are tiny. They want you to pay extra to park your car in garages that should have been parking spaces.
This is the worst apartment I have ever lived in. Management don't care, apparments aren't cleaned and carpets changed before move in. The toilet are always clogged and they won't let you out of your lease. Parking spaces are really tiny and hard to find, water bill is extremely high. Keep looking it's not worth it, all they care about is their money

I was billed over $300 due to the malfunctioning heater. When I brought this issue to the management’s attention, they said they will not take responsibility for it even though the high bill resulted from their appliance not functioning properly. They were also very rude about the whole situation. I would not recommend this place to anyone.

If you don’t feel like reading a long review, take this from an unfortunate 3 year resident: do not live here. This place is like lipstick on a giant, disgusting, poorly managed pig. Please avoid this place if you value comfort, quality, or community. [Cheap] Walls and windows are thin as paper - can hear conversations from the street in 3rd floor apartment. Neighbors yell and blast music at all hours. Management refuses to do anything about it because, “There is nothing against noise in the lease agreement.” Also, everything in them is cheaply made - A/C Unit cannot heat or cool the smaller bedrooms. Hot water lasts ~10-15 minutes even in summer. Stovetop is just a low-quality electric range with a glass top. [Neighbors] Residents blare music from their cars so loud it shakes the windows of our third floor apartments. Even from 1 to 5 AM residents sit in their cars blasting music and smoking. Recorded multiple videos of this over the last 6 months and took them to the office. Their response again was, “There is nothing against noise in the lease agreement.” Their only advice was to contact the police. Unfortunately, the non-emergency line isn’t very helpful when the residents have gone inside by the time the officer arrives and I’m already awake. It's clear the office does not sympathize or agree they should do anything. Also, the officer's first question to me was have I talked to the office. [Mold] After living here for about 8 months, my partner and I both began experiencing bad allergy issues that we never had before. A year ago we spent 3 weeks away with family and our issues both magically disappeared. After returning, both came back within a week. So, I turned over everything in the apartment and found our A\C unit’s air handler intake was absolutely covered in disgusting, moldy, dust. It was obvious it hadn’t been cleaned probably ever despite management replacing filters during inspections. I took photos to management and they completely downplayed and refused to acknowledge the issue. When maintenance came by to take a look, they looked me straight in the face and told me “this is nothing." That the disgusting, growing, damp, dust covering our A\C unit was nothing. They did clean it off and for about a month our allergy issue was gone. [Conclusion] If you’ve made it this far, I’m sorry your search for an apartment continues. Please like this review so others can avoid this soul-crushing place. Cheers

This is by far the worst apartment complex i've ever lived in. Bugs, inadequate customer service, and bad parking. Save your money and move elsewhere.
Stay away...management is a joke, view the actual unit before signing. Complaints fall on deaf ears. Maintenance is good and prompt but wee have only been here a short time and already regrets

Thank you for your feedback. We appreciate our residents and their living experiences are very important to us. Is there a time we can discuss this matter over the phone or in person at our leasing office? I would be happy to dedicate some time to correcting these matters. Respectfully, Community Manager, Phillips Research Park
The management company is absolutely incompetent. Trash piles up in the compactor to a point it makes a trash bag mound. They also show up inside your apartment unannounced. Stay away from this place!
While I loved the property and apartment layout, I've had three break-ins since living here. The management community has turned over three times, and are increasingly careless. There have been multiple instances of large parties in the pools with alcohol, loud music, and pot--there are also no places to park because it is not monitored. On top of car break-ins, there are multiple instances of first floor break-ins as well. The property has yet to install safety measures and grow distant when you speak with them about addressing issues. I do not recommend this property.
I recently moved to the phillips this month. So far I have not had any problems. The staff in the office seem really nice and friendly the few times I have gone. The only issue I notice was the parking our first night we couldn't find any parking but the other times we have been lucky to find one close.
I've moved around a lot and thus have lived in a few apartments. However, this is not just an apartment--it is home. The spacious units are adorned with stainless steel appliances and such conveniences as personal washer/dryer units and desk areas. The complex hosts various events such as monthly breakfasts, food-truck visits, holiday socials and a host of other activities to promote community. And the staff make you feel welcome from day one. I am glad I chose to call it home.
At Phillips Research Triangle Park Apartments you are at the center of a metropalis...10 minutes to anything in the area. It is clean and in a natural setting with all the extras. Mantainence is very attentive and will meet your needs ASAP.
This lovely community is a quiet kept secret, seated on the hill of Ellis Rd. This apartment has a resort style feel and is well maintained. My floorplan is amazing and spacious. My movers and my cable guy were in awe of the place and the great layout. It has a state of the art clubhouse with a gym that has an excellent weight lifting and cardio equipment. It has a luxurious game room and computer lab. The pool courtyard is very vacation-esque. The Olympic-size pool is accompanied by poolside dining tables, lounge chairs and a magnificent grill all located in the same vicinity. That way I am able to have a wonderful family experience all in one. The view of the area greenery is open and breathtaking. I was one of the first ones to move in when the community opened. This is going on my 3rd year and I still love this community. The best thing about it, is that, it is located right off of Hwy 147 which is 2 miles from major highways such as I-40 and I-540. It is in the heart of the triangle, where Raleigh, Durham, Cary, and Chapel Hill are just minutes away.
There are many positives to renting here but unfortunately the build quality cancels them all out in my opinion. You can hear everything that is happening in the neighboring apartments. Believe me, you have no privacy in this place. I could hear my neighbors using the bathroom, rolling over in bed, and even just having a normal conversation in the living room next door. Zero effort or expense was put into the buildings to reduce noise. The worst apartment experience of my life. The staff was nice, the location is good for commuting within the triangle, and the apartment layouts are good.
This complex has all the amenities you'd like for this area including a pool, 24 gym, business office, and in apartment washer/dryer. The marble counter tops are wonderful. The apartment layouts are very spacious. Some apartments can be loud, but that depends on who you live by and is a problem of any apartment complex. The only complaints I have are that there's only one dumpster on the complex and it's really far from the back half of the complex, recycling is very difficult, and the property doesn't have much around it, meaning you have to drive >10mins for groceries, gas, restaurants, etc. The property managers are pretty good and responsive to questions/complaints. There are also many tenent events going on for socializing. All in all, you get a lot for less than you'd pay for other similar complexes in the area. Great for students and young professionals.
This is a great place to live. I am going on my third year here and am very happy. The staff is extremely nice, always holding events and really know their tenants. It's also a very dog friendly complex, many owners have dogs themselves, or love dogs! Great for pet parents. Parking can be hard sometimes, but it's not the worst I've ever encountered. There's always parking available, but between the hours of 6-9 pm you can have a hard one finding a spot near your building. The salt water pool is great and the apartments are very nice.
