Greater Fondren Southwest is part of the Brays Oaks District of Houston, Texas. This large neighborhood stretches from Brays Bayou Park to the north and US Route 90 to the south. The Sam Houston Tollway forms the western border of the neighborhood.
Named for oilman Walter Fondren, this historic neighborhood contains some hidden gems and is rapidly gaining in popularity due in part to its proximity to Downtown Houston, which is just 15 miles northeast. Houston Baptist University is just outside the neighborhood and is easily reached by heading north on Fondren Road. Greater Fondren Southwest is considered one of Houston's Super Neighborhoods. There’s an amazing mix of low-lying apartments and single-family homes for rent, meaning every renter will find their perfect fit.

Property Ratings at The Retreat at Stafford
The worst place I have ever lived. Security is a joke and people get their tires stolen right in front of them. Parking makes no sense where you have to pay just to park in front of your apartment. Free parking permit system is broken where I can't register my rental car and scared it might get towed. Walkways are stained and trash is all over the place in the parking lot. There's dog poop everywhere. Neighbors are rude and will call the cops on you claiming you make too much noise, but in reality it's a 4 year child who just didn't tiptoe. You pay too much for rent and can't even feel safe here.
The Retreat at Stafford has absolutely gone downhill since I moved here in 2015. Maintenance is the only crew that was remained consistent throughout the years. From cars being broken into on the regular, pets being walked without a leash, residents being disruptive at all times of the night, management quitting regularly, to the lack of security on the property…the list goes on and on. You’re pretty much praying each day to not be a victim, living here. If you decide to rent here, stay on top of them! GVA Property Management is not very responsive and they will leave you in the dark. I moved out a couple months ago and I’m currently dealing with GVA being unresponsive about my “final bill” from LAST year. The Retreat at Stafford was a great apartment complex, once upon a time.
Apartments look nice but the constant break ins and cars getting stolen are the downside. I can't even sleep no more because thinking if my car is going to get stolen. My cousins car was stolen recently and the thing is there is nothing to steal in the cars! Usually its 10 to 18 cars being stolen soo you will see me everyday outside looking since i cant sleep! Ready to break the lease since they can't even install cameras!!!!
Beautiful property that has gone down hill. I have lived here for almost 3 years and I witnessed a steady decline in the property. There is no security. No cameras. Nothing. They are constantly breaking into cars EVERY NIGHT! I wake in the morning wondering is it my turn to walk outside to see all my windows shattered and my car ransacked for the 30 cents that may have fallen under the seat. All the management does is send the same emails.. with no action behind them. I am so disappointed in these apartments. I am expeditiously and aggressively looking for a new please to live, I don’t care if I have to break my lease I’m getting out of here.
stay away ,they will juice your every penny like a lemon and you need security.they just charged every single small things without showing bills, its not safe keep break entering apts, robbed w gun in parking lot 11 am.after hours outsider peoples in car smoking and drinking at back parking lot, there is a pool where is full of outsider especially weekends just like public pool who s use where like bathroom as well.office management 2 of workers they just keep smile your face but thats it.every month you will see extra charge on your bill.there is problem of parking especially after hours cause even garage owners they park outside so not enough spot.gym is small and smell plastic which can even make you sick and there is outsider keep coming there too so if you have any problem with them and they beat you up noway the find them. so make a good search and there is nice places with decent price even some of them including all utilities (elect, water, gas etc)
Property Manager at The Retreat at Stafford, Responded To This Review
Thanks for your feedback on the pool, and parking. We want to address this right away with you – in person is probably best. Can you call or come by our office?
Great location to commute to downtown while very close to the burbs. Property is constantly improving adding gazebos, bbq areas, a dog park, or renovations like replacing a wood fence. Management has been awesome and very accommodating!
Place looks quiet and serene. Appearances can be deceiving. Rising rents, lax security, car and apartment break-ins and robberies and vandalism to cars. Rent with caution. Lot's of people moving out.
The Retreat at Stafford is a very nice property. Location is very convenient to Houston, Sugar land and The Galleria. Easy access right off the Beltway makes this a nice place to call home. The management is friendly and responsive. Property is very clean and quiet. Great pool and clubhouse. Occasional resident appreciation weeks makes for a nice community feeling.
We just moved in on July and not only the management but also the maintenance staff have been incredibly helpful and nice. This apartment definitely has a community feel. The management had a resident apprication week where they had food, community activities, etc.. This helped us get to know our neighbors and feel accepted into the community. I have never had that before with an apartment.
The apartment complex is very nice, wood floors in the living room an dining room. The pool and landscaping is well maintained. Most of management staff are very friendly and sometimes go out of their way to help the residents. The only problem that I have is that the office is only open, after 5 p.m. one one night each week and are not open at all on Sunday. Other than the aforementioned issue, all other things about the complex are great.
My apartment is big, and has all the amenities one could want!
