Property Ratings at Richfield Village Apartments
My experience with this apartment complex has been disappointing, starting with the stark contrast between the model apartment they showcase and the actual living spaces. Upon receiving the keys on moving day, I was met with a unit that looked nothing like the pristine model. The walls were riddled with patches, hastily done without proper sanding and painting. The ceiling hinted at a past flood from an upper apartment, and rather than addressing it appropriately, the management opted for a subpar patch job. The bathroom was a major concern from day one, with floating debris, including what seemed like human waste. Despite numerous complaints and attempts at unclogging, the issues persisted, requiring extensive cleaning with Clorox. The bathroom further suffered when a leak from the upstairs neighbor damaged the ceiling, taking three days for maintenance to address. Unfortunately, the subsequent repairs were poorly executed, leading to the ceiling falling apart within a month. Moving to the kitchen, the outdated appliances were a letdown, with a lack of available parts for repairs. Contrary to advertised modern amenities, most apartments feature aging appliances. Regrettably, the challenges extended to the deposit retrieval process. Despite my consistent follow-ups, the staff appeared clueless about the status, redirecting blame to corporate without taking proactive steps. The misunderstanding about the legal timeframe for deposit returns was a recurring issue, reflecting a lack of awareness and professionalism. In my opinion, the overall mismanagement and disregard for tenant well-being make this complex an unsuitable living choice. The staff's lack of competence, from apartment inspections to addressing maintenance concerns, raises serious concerns about the quality of service provided. For those seeking a hassle-free living experience, I would strongly advise looking elsewhere.

Do not bother even applying. This property is a nightmare. Management is nothing but a web of lies and a waste of time.

This place is horrible…. The reviews are lies Maintanence doesn’t fix anything they put band aids on scars…. I’ve been in Richfield 5 years same apt… and have been promised new tile due to the fact the heaters and old air conditioner leaked so much they began to rip up… we’ve had ongoing plumbing problems for over 2 years…. If You call Maintanence they promise to show up…. Sometimes they do sometimes they don’t. Just had an an emergency maintence call after days of trying…. Someone finally shows up no tools and no clue, and says they can’t do anything to help me right now… moral of the story don’t come move here unless your prepared to over pay for a small space that’s falling apart
My family and I have lived at Richfield Village Apartments for over 7 years. The community is safe, clean and very peaceful. Management and office Staff at RV quickly respond to calls/ emails. The tenant's comfort and happiness is a top priority at Richfield Village Apartments. Maintenance at RV, quickly responds to calls, at any hour. Maintenance issues are usually fixed within one business day. There is lots of public transportation nearby. Richfield Village is zoned in a school district that has the best schools. All of your shopping needs are just minutes away, and the parkway, many of the routes and other roadways are close by. I like to refer to Richfield Village and the town of Clifton as "A Small Country Town Within A City". Make Richfield Village Your Home. You and your family will love it here.
We all know moving is very stressful but moving during a pandemic was a nightmare. Thankfully I had Maria from the leasing office on my side. She was so caring, professional and was always available to answer any questions. I have been a Richfield tenant for almost 2 years and I know I can always count on her. Also the area is great! Definitely pet friendly! We have so many stores and restaurants near by. We have a dog park and so many areas to walk and get your exercise in. I feel very safe walking at night. I have never had an issues with my neighbors, it’s very quiet. If you are looking for an apartment in a great area don’t hesitate and contact Maria.
I set up an appointment to view an apartment after confirming that there was availability. When I arrived I was told there were not any apartments available but they were hoping by the summer one would become available (maybe August). I liked the model apartment shown, but it was a waste of time and very misleading, so it makes me question how living there really is. Please update your apartments to state that no apartments are available now.
The price is already a bit steep for the space, but especially considering all the issues in my month and a half living here, IT IS NOT WORTH THE PRICE. The ladies in the leasing office are so sweet, but the property manager is nonresponsive. Maintenance does not keep you updated on the issues they’re supposed to fix over time. So many things have been dirty, broken, or unsafe to use. Only way I’d be comfortable here is in a fully renovated unit that I had a chance to tour ahead of time.

Would you have any problem emailing FeedbackSolutions@JMGrealty.com with a few additional details so that we might investigate? We take feedback like this very seriously & will do whatever is necessary to resolve. Have a great day, and we look forward to hearing from you soon. Thank you.
do not move here! maintenance is terrible! you have mold in bathrooms and the way its fixed is by caulking over or painting over! bugs and mice issue!
I’ve been living here for maybe half a year now. In terms of wait time since application to getting a room, it took 2-4 months. They had a room availability after two months, but the location was too far from the bus stop for me. So the next room was available two months after that. They gave me a renovated unit so I’ve been told I have new floors and painted walls. Safe and quiet area. No roaches or leaks or anything like that. They have controlled heating that starts in October. It can get really warm at night (sometimes too warm) and they turn it on stronger maybe around 5pm or so (unless it’s the weekend). During the day it’s a little chillier, I notice because I work from home, but nothing that a sweater and door guard won’t fix. Very close to eateries, malls and schools. Parking is only competitive when there’s snow - but it can get competitive lol. Once the snow melts it’s all good again. Overall I’m pretty content here.
I have been living here for 5 years in a one bedroom on the second floor. Just signed a new lease for year 6 against my better judgement. It's an older residence so don't expect any frills. I live in a good area for parking, so I don't usually have a problem but I can see other areas of the campus that are packed. Neighborhood is quiet. My stove looks like its from the 50s and the stove top was damaged by a previous resident, which they tried to cover up with paint, but that is peeling off and I constantly have paint chips in my kitchen. Dishwasher is small and old, but it works for one person; probably purchased in the 90s. Very few cabinets in the kitchen, so you will have to bring it your own shelves for storage. The only decent closet is the linen closet. The coat closet is doable, but the bedroom closet is a joke. It is maybe three feet wide, so it probably won't hold one persons clothes, much less two people. The interior is what you would expect from a place that was built in the 50s; a lot of wear and tear. The bathroom is as bad as the kitchen. Old cabinets and mirrors. There is no ventilation, so the paint chips off of the ceiling. There is dirt that you can clean off no matter how hard you try. I think the tubs are original. Mine was painted over, and is now chipping off. I had water damage to the tile in the shower, it took them 3 tries to do a not so terrible job. There is no built in lighting in the living room and bedroom. You have to purchase all your lamps, etc, but there are few outlets, so you have to get creative with plugging things in. Windows are drafty. Air conditioners in the bedroom and living room are old. One of mine does not cool the room; maintenance refuses to acknowledge that it doesn't work. The admin claims that I am on the list for a new one in April, but we'll see how that goes. My favorite part of this place is the radiators. The banging is next level; it sounds like Thor is in the basement banging on the pipes with his hammer. All of this doesn't stop them from raising the rent every year by 3%. I would advise you to check the laundry room on campus as well before you sign.
I have been living in Richfield Village for 9 months and I am writing this review because I wish someone had done so when I was making my decision to move here. I knew going into my lease that the apartments were older and I would have to deal with the inconveniences of being in a dated apartment complex. However, I never imagined I would have as many issues as I do. Cheap paint on the walls, peeling paint off the bathroom ceilings and walls, cracks in the flooring, just to name a few. But the worst of all is the infestation of cockroaches in this complex. On my move in day I found 3 dead cockroaches on the floor. When I brought it to managements attention they told me they have never heard of anyone having a cockroach problem in Richfield Village which I knew could not be the case because cockroaches are never only in just one place. They suggested I have my apartment fumigated which I did. Unfortunately this did not solve the problem and I have been battling this issue for almost a year. Just today I found ELEVEN large American Cockroaches scurrying all throughout my apartment. It is sickening that this place does nothing in an effort to rectify this issue for their tenants. It has gotten to the point where I can hear the cockroaches scurrying throughout the walls and making their way through my apartment. I am emotionally distraught over this and the paranoia of having a pest issue of this caliber is almost impossible to deal with. Be careful in selecting your apartment and make sure that you are not being tricked into an “updated/renovated” apartment with no pest issues.
I wouldn’t advise no one to move here in a long term basis. The apartments are old! The heat barely works when it does it comes with consequences noises and water leaks. Maintenance and management are no help! The walls are cracking and some part are just dusty. And it’s getting more expensive with no improvement. So good luck. if you may have a difference experience. The only good thing it’s a good area but that’s it
Please read if you want to know the GOOD and BAD about this place because I am going to be completely honest. Here's the GOOD: the community is super quiet and I barely heard my neighbors. I may have just got lucky in the specific area I lived in but even when I walked around the neighborhood, it was always quiet. I also saw little to no pests in my apartment. Even spiders, I barely saw them. One summer, however, I had a minor ant problem in my living room but it was resolved quickly with ant traps. Here's the BAD: there is no assigned parking so it is almost like a war just to find a parking space. Especially if you try to find a parking spot after 9pm. Forget about it. You will have to park in a nearby neighborhood. Another frustrating thing is that it seems like no one ever leaves their apartments after 7pm so you most definitely can't steal a spot if you wanted to. Richfield is home to many homebodies so if you have a big social life and you're normally out really late, you will rarely find a parking spot near your apartment. Also, if you work in NYC, GPS may tell you it takes 35 mins to get into the city but in reality, there is always traffic so it is more like an hour on public transportation. Appliances in the apartment are outdated. The showers are old and there is a lot of rust. You cannot control your heat so once it's on, you can't turn it off. Normally Richfield turns the heat on in October until mid-Spring but by mid-Spring, it is hot outside so it can be very uncomfortable. There are only AC units in the living room and bedroom windows that don't work very well so the heat inside the apartment continues well into the Summer. The office staff can be impatient and rude. They come off really short and uninterested in resident issues. The maintenance staff isn’t very responsive to issues unless you’re on top of them. I lived there for two years (only stayed for an extra year because I couldn’t find another place in time) and rent increased in year 2, which was expected but it would have been nice to have improvements to my living experience with the rent increase. Also, not sure why Richfield would increase its rent considering there are no big unique aspects with living there. Despite giving it 3 stars, I would recommend people to look elsewhere before settling for Richfield. Even though it has its perks, I think there is more out there for a similar price.
Moving into a new location is stressful, but the stress is easily intensified when you are on a time crunch, thankfully leasing agent, Maria was able to able to assist me in a way that put some of that stress at ease. She was excellent at keeping me informed and up to date with availability and spoke with me in a way that made the business transatransaction feel human. She was welcoming, professional, kind and knowledgeable. The buildings themselves are well maintained and clean. I am VERY happy with the service and can not say enough about it. If you are looking for a place to move, check out richfield! -V
My time at Richfield Village was great. I lived there for about a year but had to relocate out of state because of my job, and so I moved out. I have nothing but good things to say about Richfield Village and everybody working there. Everybody in the leasing office was a tremendous help - especially Maria. When I first reached out to Richfield Village about my interest in an apartment there, Maria walked me through the entire process and was extremely helpful and friendly on every interaction I had with her! The apartment was great - I lived in an ample studio that was clean, quiet, in a great location, and affordable. Not once did I encounter any bugs. I had a few maintenance issues but everybody in the maintenance department was prompt in responding and correcting said issues. I can't speak highly enough of Richfield Village. I wish I never had to move out!

I cannot speak highly enough of the maintenance department here at Richfield Village Apartments. Especially MIKE who is head of the maintenance dept.. He is so helpful and friendly. His work ethic is very impressive. He even came over and helped me set up my cable box! Definitely a 5 star review! A huge thank you to Mike and his team!
Apartment is very OLD they will show you the model... Ask to see actual unit that u will be renting or u may have a very BIG surprise... My apt was cold & when I complained they turned the heat up to an unbearable setting... Linda in maintenance is very sweet so hope she answers the phone because the manager is very NASTY... When you move they will deduct from ur security deposit just because.... Take pics when u move in & esp when u move out.. BEWAREEEEEEEEE save ur money & a big head ache by moving somewhere else... Resident from 2/15/17 - 2/28/18
I been here for 3 Years and I do like that it’s quite and the outside very well clean and maintained. But my only problem with this place is with the Hot water, come winter time this place is always lacking Hot water. And in 3 Years I been here they could never get the hot water issue fixed. If you don’t like taking hot showers then this would be the perfect place for you....
The apartments are disgusting. Spiders come out from every crack in the wall during the winter and fall seasons. Skunks walk around the court yards. Laundry rooms are SO GROSS and washers/dyers do not work half the time. There are hot water issues during the winter- almost every morning no hot water. Gas leaks are a regular on top of the stove not working. Maintenance gives excuses or does not show up half the time.

Hi, thank you for taking the time to leave us feedback about your experience with us. We would like the opportunity to address your concerns. Please reach out to us directly at FeedbackSolutions@JMGrealty.com when you have a chance. Thank you, and we look forward to hearing from you.
You will be surprised how bad things here, sometimes I think people who manage the village belongs to the stone ages or had some special approach by making residents experience horrible, who knows what they are thinking of and why. I would start from the leasing office were you will have three ladies who had no skills at all and the least competent , they would avoid any request by either making it impossible to handle or refer the customer to a different person which offers no progress, so if I have something to discuss with them there is no tracking from there end, and no way to get a response within a week or two, I have to wait for months to end up with a NO without an explanation. Rent increase is not justifiable at all with the horrible service they had, they should think about a rent decrease, that is an advice for the management. Maintenance have an attitude and yelled at people several times with no reason, I've seen lowlife people but they tend to look professional during working hours or when they deal with their customers, basically, to keep their source of income, with these guys the situation is different, they would show residents the worst treatment ever, sometimes I feel guilty for calling them, and I just keep wondering, if someone can't handle answering a phone call why they answer it? or if they just stay at home and make it peaceful for everyone. Trash, trash, and more trash all over the place, dog poops outside, and no one care about removing it. Mold problems in the bathrooms, they don't even bother to check, they consider it the tenant responsibility. The maintenance superintendent has no communication skills, the only word he knows is NO, I would not blame him the whole place is miserable, so he is just trying to blend in. I really feel bad to send them a check at the beginning of each month, my only remorse is I am moving at the beginning of next year when my lease ends. Finally, I would like to tell you if you want to rent in the same area, mind your business somewhere else, it is doomed here.

very nice, very clean looking, good pricing in a nice area
Real nice area. Close to bus and other transportation. Rooms nice size. Could use more storage but with some ingenuity it works.
Pro's to Richfield Village: -Allow's pets -Studio size is decent -Location is spectacular -Surroundings is great -The leasing office crew are the nicest Cons to Richfield Village: -Maintenance -Maintenance -I don't know if I mentioned Maintenance -Parking -Maintenance -Buildings are older than George Washington -When there is a problem, nothing will be fixed
Biggest plus for this apartment complex is that is the area. There is a park less than a block from our apartment that is great for walking/jogging when the weather is decent. Also there are a lot of large grassy areas within the complex where I see children and families playing. Also, within walking distance is a drugstore, grocery store and a bus stop that for local stops and a bus stop for local and express buses into New York. The apartment itself has some plus and minuses. The bedrooms and living room all have AC units mounted in to the windows. I thought this was a plus when we first moved in, but the AC units can't be removed. I would much prefer to get fresh air than run an AC in the spring and on cool summer nights, especially since we pay for electricity. There is also a problem with mold. Our bathroom has a window in the shower with a wooden frame. The wood has mold covered with peeling paint. I don't know if there is much we can do about this except try to prevent it from getting worse by leaving the window open after a shower to let moisture out. That said, I do feel that the maintenance department is pretty responsive. For example, we called on Saturday for a plugged drain in our shower and they someone took care of it the same day (after we had tried unsuccessfully to deal with it ourselves). However, they weren't able to do anything about feral cats living in the basement area over the winter. They kept us up several nights with their meowing. So overall, there could be improvements, but most of the time it is a pleasant place to live.
My apartment is clean and cozy. The grounds are well kept and the amenities are nicer than any in the area. The maintenance department has always responded to an issue between 1-5 days for me depending on whether they needed to bring in an outside contractor or not. There is a business center near the leasing office and it is very close to public transportation locally or to NYC. It is also very close to shops and dining, 20 min from NJPAC, close to the NJ Parkway, routes 3, 46, & 80. So I am not just living in an apartment, I am living thanks to the location, cost, and generally good management. My only complaint is that the garages seem to not be maintained and the laundry facilities are sometimes not the cleanest nor do all of them have a machine where you can add more money to your laundry card, so you always have to go to the main laundry room behind the leasing office to fill your card up.
