Property Ratings at Ridgewood
DON'T MOVE HERE! They are cockroach infested and they are so unresponsive. The employees directly on the Ridgewood property are so nice, however, UDR is absolutely unresponsive and rude. They even locked our whole building out the night after Thanksgiving. The FOB box had an electrical issue and they refused to fix it until the following monday so we were all locked out until someone inside heard commotion and came to open the door. We moved into Ridgewood apartments owned and managed by UDR in August 2020. We moved out due to a job relocation on March 31, 2022, and paid the full penalty of early move out as according to Montgomery County Law. We resigned our lease in May 2021 for another year. With our resign, we were promised a full carpet cleaning, which we never received. We paid rent every month and were never late with a payment. We had a pre move out inspection on March 29, 2022, where we were told the carpet might need to be replaced but no other issues were found. When we asked the property manager if we would be responsible for the cost of the new carpet, he said no we absolutely would not be responsible for that bill. A week after moveout, we got a bill for repairs they needed to make to the apartment. This included charging us for a full carpet replacement and blinds replacement. I emailed the billing department and asked why we were charged for the carpet and blinds, their response was that the carpet was stained and it was brand new when we moved in, so they needed to replace it. I told them that according to our move in checklist, the carpet was not new. They seem to have lost our move in checklist and have been claiming we never completed one, when in fact, we handed it directly to the on premise leasing department two days after we moved in. The carpet was stained and damaged when we moved in, and we noted that. When asking them about the blinds, they have not given a reason as to why we were charged and have been ignoring my questions about that. They have stopped responding to my emails trying to resolve the situation and will not budge or answer any more of my questions. This seems to be a common trend with them, considering multiple people have been through the exact same carpet situation as us. I just want to not be billed for this, I want my security deposit back, and I want an explination as to why they tried to charge us for new blinds.
I have lived here for 9 months. In that time, I have put in 27 service requests -- more than I did in the seven years I lived in my last apartment and the seven years before that. When I moved in, the refrigerator was not working, wiring was exposed on washing machine, the blinds were two different colors, doorknobs didn't match and the linoleum had cracks in it, which have still not been addressed. Things have not improved. I had a repeated bug problem that the exterminator only seemed to make worse (I fixed it myself with Raid). Management is not responsive. I went the office 5 minutes before it was closing once and pointed that out through the locked door, their response: Well, actually it is 7 minutes before closing. They sent out an email saying that they were going to charge for repairs, in direct violation of that lease. I pushed for a clarification. I should have pushed harder. I just got a $5 bill for changing a lightbulb. Five months ago, when I asked whether there were limits on which bulbs to use in the unusual fixtures, they informed me that I should put in a maintenance request. Three times since then, they have taken care of the bulbs. On the fourth time, they had the gall to charge me. I am locked into a 15-month lease and the apartments are spacious, but DO NOT LIVE HERE. Don't even think about it.
Been living here for less than a year and already I'm having issues with this place and will not resign the lease. When I first tried to move in it took longer than expected because of the horrible smell that was left in the fridge from the previous tenants. They claimed the place was clean. It literally smelled like a dead body and had flies in the fridge. I couldn't put food in the fridge because of that smell. I had to make several visits and nag them just to get it replaced. I refused to move in until the issue was fix and they had the nerve to try and charge me for 2 weeks of rent because it was past my move in date. Spoke to upper management and got the issue resolved. Second, PARKING PARKING PARKING. People speed in the parking lot which they do nothing about. It's by far the worst issue with this place. You need to pay to have a visitor parking pass. If you want to stay past a certain time. $5 a night or they can add $40 to your rent for a monthly pass. $$$ scheme ??. So what happens when you get a car rental after the front offices closes? Your pretty much out of luck and your car will be towed. They give you this sticker to put on your windshield that you can't transfer to another car which I can understand. But in situations like those what else can you do. Most of my friends can't even enjoy themselves without having to worry if their car is still outside. These people will be quick to try and get you to buy in to renting here but won't tell you a lot of things. As far as the neighborhood, it's quite depending on your neighbor. Overall it's gets 2 stars from me because I really like the spacing in my apartments and the inside is nice, but with all the added fees and no utilities included, this place is overpriced. I would rather find another place.
My apartment needs improvement, but, I am facing an eviction.
