Laurel enjoys a unique position roughly halfway between DC and Baltimore, and its relative seclusion makes it an attractive option for commuters who work in either city but prefer a small-town home environment. The close proximity to Fort Mead also makes Laurel a popular option for Department of Defense employees and military personnel seeking off-base housing.
The cost of living is rather affordable, and apartments tend to rent for much more reasonable rates than closer to the major cities nearby. While almost exclusively residential, Laurel does feature a handful of large shopping centers along its major roadways as well as a quaint Main Street district, the perfect place to grab a cup of coffee in a friendly café before heading off to work.

Property Ratings at Riverview Apartments
I have been living here going on 3 months and i am extremely happy. I always feel safe and it is very quiet and peaceful. I haven't seen any riff raff and aside from the dumpster area overflowing sometimes, it's pretty clean. The staff is very friendly and responsive. I am glad i made the decision to move here. The only downside is there is no model for the garden style apartments so when apartment shopping i did take a risk by committing to it without seeing it first, but there is a 30 day guarantee.
Very affordable for Laurel but its a little old, and some of the appliances do not work properly. The area is safe, but the leasing office is open only 4 days a week which makes it hard to contact them.
It's OK but lacks modern touch. The apt. Is clean but they need to fence their proproperty so that people will not be chased down by neighbour's dogs.
These apartments are in a nice spot. Close to DC without the DC prices. There's a nice river-walk behind the complex. The AC units leave a little be desired. I haven't been here in the winter but there's no thermostat in the apartment so it does have me a little concerned. I don't see any way it will be comfortable for everyone in the building. They do have a nice "30 day trial" which allows you to live there for a month and if you decide you don't like it you can move out without the consequences of breaking the lease. You don't see that in many places!
I've been a long time resident of Riverview apartments and I still love living here. Parking is the only issue that I have experienced. No assigned parking and it gets frustrating coming home after 5pm and rarely finding anything close to your building. People have visitors that take up your spots because we have no assigned visitor parking. This is really a small complaint though because I have never experienced anything bad living here. I feel safe and the staff responds very quickly to any issues you may be having.
