Ghent is a historic neighborhood near the Elizabeth River that’s known for being the oldest suburb of the city of Norfolk, with buildings dating back an entire century. The neighborhood’s picturesque architecture makes strolling through the area a delight. This walkable district is ideal for commuters, especially those who prefer to travel by foot. Many residents can walk from their homes to the downtown area, just southeast of the neighborhood, in under half an hour. A drive to downtown only takes about seven minutes.
Although Downtown Norfolk is just a hop and a skip away, residents don’t have to leave the neighborhood for dining and nightlife options. There are plenty of local establishments along Colley Avenue, like the Public House and Press 626 Wine Bar. Ghent is also home to the Eastern Virginia Medical School, the Chrysler Museum of Art, and Plum Point Park.

Property Ratings at Riverview Lofts
The place stinks because the animals pee all over the place, especially the elevators. The walls are super thin you hear everything. Management sucks they are mean and nasty. Parking is horrendous they call the tow truck on you every chance they get. The washing machine was molded when I moved in, and the dishwasher half-washes. But the main two issues are how bad the building stinks and how thin the walls are, and I mean you hear everything!!!!
Property Manager at Riverview Lofts, Responded To This Review
Thank you for choosing Riverview Lofts and sharing your feedback. Our vision for our community includes a pleasant atmosphere that envelopes a carefree living space. Since the recent management transition, we have been setting up resources and tools to communicate with residents and work with vendors to resolve any residual issues. Housekeeping in shared spaces is a priority; we have already augmented the cleaning routine with an emphasis on freshening the hallways. Parking is in a conveniently located garage, which is subject to Sentara’s parking policies. Your satisfaction matters to us! Contact our office at (757) 434-6650 to engage in conversation about your experience and suggestions for our team. We look forward to showing we care and earning your highest regard. – Community Manager
Save all your paperwork and proof of payment. They are calling my sons deposit a holding fee and not giving him back his money
Pros: Friendly Residents Decently priced? Maybe for it being downtown only Mostly updated apartments and kitchens Water included In-unit washer and dryer Maintenance responds pretty swiftly Cons: When you walk in the front doors most of the time it does stink The internet they "provide" is no bueno, and when you try to get your own, the cables they had previously set up will not work Some of the apartments I had toured, the ones with wood floors had air bubbles and did smell of mold and dusty, I would not recommend those. When I moved in the A/C was not working and the washer smelled like mold, they "fixed" the A/C only for it to go out every other day, and for my apartment to reach 80 degrees in the summer, and did not offer any type of money off rent and it still is an issue. They gave me a cleaning agent for the washing machine, but it did not work and washer is still moldy probably due to it sitting so long before I moved in. The walls are so thin you can hear peoples alarm clocks, their dogs, or them washing dishes, it does echo in the hallways as well. Also had to clean the apartment when I moved in, dust was everywhere and the floors were pretty nasty, whoever panted spilled paint and tried to clean it up but missed most of it. Parking is horrendous sometimes due to having to share a parking garage with the hospital patients and if you need another parking spot? 110$ (crazy amount) If you do venture outside, watch where you step because nobody picks up their dog doodoo. The "bedroom" wall is built slanted, meaning when you put your bed there, your frame will not fit against the wall
Lived here for 4 years, can't wait to leave. Slow internet, thin walls, terrible management. Parking is extra, and they'll tow your car. My bike was stolen, and they didn't do anything. They also locked us out of our apartment and we had to call at locksmith St 9pm. Looks nice, but it's a trap. Avoid.
From day one these loft style apaprtments have been the best place I've ever lived. It includes WiFi, Directv, 1 television, water, gym, pool, and parking. Riverview Loft is like a small community. At least once a month there is an event of some kind at the loft. The location is also great! Right in downtown Norfolk, 1 block from the hospital, 1 block from public train station that runs throughout Norfolk.
At first, Riverview Lofts seems like a great deal. Newer apartments with everything but electricity included in the monthly rent, this is however likely not the case. Want HD service on your TV? Extra $15/month. Want more than 1 parking spot? Extra $100/month. In addition to extra charges, you will find that the walls between units are very thin, the provided internet service is very poor and often not working, and the community rules (such as parking) will only be enforced for some residents. In addition, there are very few resident amenities/events. While the apartments are nicely finished, you will lose out on service here. The office staff is not very helpful nor attentive to community needs. Overall, I do not recommend Riverview Lofts, you can get a lot more for you money in Downtown Norfolk/Ghent areas.
I moved here because I was attending medical school. I wasn't able to come in person before signing lease, and I was completely lied to about what my apartment would look like. There are several layouts here that are gorgeous, but I got a handicap-living modified apartment with absolutely no natural light and a tiny window. The other parts of the apartment complex are nice, but DO NOT RENT #105.
