Property Ratings at Robert Frost
Out of all the apartment complexes I have lived in I have never disliked a place more. The management is terrible. I seriously have never felt so uncared for by a group of people. There were so many inconveniences and so many times that they fell short of being remotely helpful. There is absolutely no organization and for what you pay for, it's really not worth it.
This building has done beautiful cosmetic renovations, but there are constant problems with the buildings, and management is constantly failing to keep up with routine maintenance, and issues that their old building causes. The WiFi does not work regularly, you will need to get your own. Don’t get into it.
About two months in to living here I had two packages stolen from in front of my door. I went to the management office and let them know the situation. They said that they could not be responsible for anything and could not do anything to make the building more secure. I asked if they could look in to it since it was concerning that someone with access to my building was stealing things. They informed me that my building was "controlled access" not "secured access" and that I should file a grievance with the post office.
SCAM! Do not rent from POETS ROW! I deposited $1360 at the time of moving in and I received a check for $886 when I left. Almost $500! was withheld from my security deposit, I didn't do any damage to the apartment were $475 needed to be taken out. Don't say you weren't warned.
I've been a resident here for years and I have an immense distaste for this company named echelon. This place use to be a very easygoing and friendly atmosphere. This new company Echelon decided to buy the place, and it took a turn for the worst. The first thing they did was raise the cost of the laundry machines, which wasn't terribly concerning. But then I got to know there staff... They were very rude and unprofessional, abrasive, condescending, oblivious, and they have an over-developed sense of entitlement. The building use to be maintained everyday. The hallways use to be vacuumed and the basement was mopped. Now, we're lucky to see this place get cleaned once a month. They only have two maintenance people, who are also very unfriendly and lazy. They have a very corporate system, where you have to fill out the online maintenance request, and if you have an emergency maintenance issue, you sit through a ridiculously long answering service that outlines what is and isn't considered an emergency before giving to actual number to report something. I was recently notified that I'm not able to keep my unit, but I can move into one of the newly renovated studio units for $400 more a month or a 1 bedroom for $600 more a month. The last few weeks here have been anything but cozy. They renovate after hours. They painted all the hallways with this really dull and bleak shade of grey, making the once historic building that was filled with art, character, history, and positive energy is becoming a fake smile jail cell . Given the behavior from the staff, the lack of plant life, and the new paint job, I feel as though they are trying to attempt to dehumanize the residents here. They also decided to rip the carpet out of the hallways, further disgracing the building's character. They installed this alarm system that goes off if you leave the door open for more than 30 seconds. Oh, we're trying to protect the residents from the hordes of homeless people! The alarm system just makes noise, it doesn't call out to the authorities, it just prompts someone to close the door, so if someone broke in, they would still be in the building. It's a mere illusion of safety. They are also contemporizing the units with granite counter tops and wooden floors that make you think it's historic. They actually tore out the flooring and replaced it with an illusion of history. echelon has zero respect for its tenants.
The Eugene Field building at 1055 Sherman Street is part of Denver's "Poet's Row" district conveniently located in historic and beautiful Capitol Hill. It is the perfect location for those who like to walk, bike, or take public transit and is a good compromise between hectic and lively downtown living while remaining in a quiet, scenic neighborhood. You can walk a mile east to beautiful Cheesman Park or venture a mile north to the heart of downtown Denver. Pros: Lots of fun, local neighborhood bars and restaurants with a young professional demographic. The apartment is a very good size for the area. Everyone in the leasing office is very friendly and helpful, and maintenance is quick to respond with any issues you may have. Gas, water, and trash is included in rent, and with radiator heating your electric bill stays very low every month. Tons of storage! Free WiFi for the building, and also a shared community pool. Cons: No parking! Spots are available for a monthly fee, but there aren't many spots, they're expensive, and there's a waiting list to get one. Historic building, meaning little to no modern amenities... No air conditioning (summers can get quite hot), no dish washers, no option between cable or satellite (you cannot make alterations to historic buildings, meaning no satellite dish). Very cramped kitchens and bathrooms. No closet in the bedroom, although there are several spacious closets in the main living area. Radiators and pipes clang loudly at all hours of the night in the winter. If you're a light sleeper, the noise of the local bars and clubs on weekends could be an issue for you. Overall, this is a great place to live for young professionals who like to enjoy the outdoors and local neighborhood scene while staying close to the hustle and bustle of downtown.
I've been a resident at the Emily Dickinson building for the past five years and although my studio is not the most glamorous place to live in, it is extremely affordable with the ever rising rent prices in or near downtown denver. The maintenance staff is very much on point and Kevin cares about his tenants as if they were his own family. The office staff is also very friendly and understanding of residents needs.
