When the first settlers arrived around 1817, they named their new community after the one they'd left behind in New York -- Rochester. Located about 25 miles north of Downtown Detroit, Rochester is a vibrant city with beautiful parks, charming neighborhoods, and a delightful downtown that attracts visitors from all over the region. The city sits about four miles east of Oakland University, a large school with a 1,443-acre campus.
Resembling an Old West town with plenty of false-front architecture, Downtown Rochester contains a wide selection of shops and restaurants. Browse the antique stores, gift shops, and art galleries and then stop for coffee at one of the cafes. In the evening, try one of the many restaurants or stop in at a tavern or pub. The Downtown Rochester Farmers' Market takes place on Saturdays, May through October. Other downtown events include Music in the Park, the Art & Apples Festival, and the Heritage Festival.

Property Ratings at Rochester Square
The location of these apartments is phenomenal, being just at the end of the main downtown strip. The windows lack proper insulation so it won’t stay warm or cold without constant A/C or heat. The A/C unit is in the living room only with no ventilation to the bedroom. (It gets unbearably hot in the summer). Stink bugs and ants run rampant as there are gaps for them to get in. When our original landlord transitioned out, there wasn’t a replacement for a few months. Closets are metal with quite loud screeching and they are uneven on the track so there is no fixing it by adjustment. You will be able to hear your neighbors opening and closing theirs through the walls. The front door does not have good soundproofing so you can hear every conversation from the hallway. Make sure to check your freezer for mold before plugging it in, and ensure you are given a storage locker if moving in; these were both issues we faced.

I signed my lease today and LOVE the apartment. It's so spacious and looks beautiful. The property is clean and in a perfect area. The staff is so friendly and helpful. Manager, Amanda, loves her job and makes you feel so welcome. Very excited to get all settled and live in our new home!

We are so happy to hear you love your new home!! Your kind words mean a lot to us here at Rochester Square Apartments. It's always nice to know we have another happy resident!
What more could you ask for, really. I moved here a little over 4 months ago and absolutely will be renewing my lease. Aside from the charming scenery, prime location, within walking distance to not only Down town Rochester, but, Paint Creek Trail and the library, the management of this property, Amanda, goes above and beyond and truly, genuinely cares about her residents here and pours her heart into this property. She has become like family to me, it’s hard to find a decently priced apartment with such class and in a good location, and it’s nearly impossible to find an apartment with such professional, personable and compassionate management. I would 110% recommend these apartments to anyone and everyone. 10/10.
All this place has is location!!! Apartments have not undergone any renovations and desperately needs it. Infested with bugs. Has been a ongoing problem for years. I've had a flood in my bedroom where now the wall has rotted and invites flying ants. Just noticed yesterday that I now have a problem in the same bedroom in the closest. I've contacted corporate office which I have received no response and haven't been accommodated for a problem that was never caused by me but the property itself. Location and great schools is the only thing going for this place!! Don't be fooled!
My girlfriend and I have been living here for close to a year and couldn't be happier. The two things that stand out the most are the location and courteousness of the staff. Rochester Square is about a 5 minute walk to the middle of downtown and easy access to Paint Creek Trail/Rochester Municipal Park. The staff is always quick to respond to maintenance calls and will go out of their way to help the tenants (thinking specifically of a time we couldn't pick up a package left at the office and they were nice enough to deliver it to our door.) The price is also great compared to other complexes in the area. There's no pool or gym, so the price remains lower for that. Water and heat included is a great bonus and there is also a nice little Paint Creek access area on site. Overall, we've had a great experience and would recommend Rochester Square to anyone looking for a nice downtown location with great staff.
