Property Ratings at Rock Creek 185
This complex is dirty and dingy. Nothing is upgraded. Crime is high. Repairs aren’t a priority.
Bad maintenence, bad management, bad drainage on the property which causes flooding in units every year, etc. Our apartment had heavy cigarette smoke damage from a previous tenant and they just painted over it on the walls, left the ceiling blackened by smoke with smoke filled insulation sticking out of holes. We never were able to get rid of the smell up until the flooding destroyed our and 50 other units. We were told by upstairs neighbors it happened every year for the past 7 years at least.

I paid SO much money to break my lease and get out of this place. It was treated for COCKROACHES. Exterminators had to enter regularly. The carpet was already trashed when I moved in and I still got a massive bill when I moved out even though it was nicer and cleaner than when I moved in. I put in a work order and it took them three months to even see it. Mold everywhere. Honestly the most poorly kept apartment complex I’ve ever seen. Tons of police activity. I never ever felt safe living here. I would never recommend to anyone.

The office is very nice looking but on the inside of the apartments were outdated. Bathrooms very small the 1989 stove and the hallways were dirty. The pictures look 1000 x Better than the apartments they are showing. I was disappointed ??. The office look 1000x better than their apartments. Which really says poor Management on the company. Borderline Slum

Hi Michelle, We’re very sorry to hear you feel this way, but we can assure you we’re constantly working to improve our community. We recently wrapped up an extensive exterior renovation, and we’re currently completing interior upgrades. We’re refinishing the floors in most of the hallways as we speak while our laundry rooms were updated earlier this year. We have both “classic” and “upgraded” apartment home styles available. If you’re interested in learning more, please call or drop by the office. Thank you, The Rock Creek 185 Team
Zero stars! The place is a dump. They do not answer phone, emails. The management and office staff are like highschoolers, if you expect anything from them (like for them to do their job) you get attitude. I considered not posting this until I am closer to moving out, out of fear of retribution. Isn't that ridiculous???!!! I'm not making some unreasonable requests!
All the negative comments I read about these apartments are SO true and relatable. I lived here with my family for one year. One year lease and I wanted to move out about a month in. Like most, I chose this apartment because of the affordable price (isn’t worth it.) first of all, HORRIBLE bug problem. I would see 5-6 spiders weekly. Carpet beetles, and moths daily. Tons of mold that they just paint over to hide. My apartment had a strong cigarette stench that NEVER went away. No matter what we did. Also, pictures are a huge representation of what most apartments look like. The kitchen/bathroom/windows/carpet is beyond outdated and dirty. If you live here you will see a cop or two daily because there’s always something going on. There was an armed man running around and the complex had to be shut down while they searched for him. I never felt safe or at home there and we seriously counted down the days down until our lease was over.
these apartments were built in the 1970's. only a small handful of the apartments on the inside look like this. the apartment complex only really refurnish things on the outside of the building to make it look fancy like (entrance sign, and paint on apartments). and if you need something fix your looking at waiting about a 1week-2weeks. they always told us they only have 1 handy man on duty...dont move here

Hello, Stephanie. We are in the process up upgrading our homes and making improvements to our community. While this process takes time, we are always looking for ways to make you comfortable in your current home. We always address maintenance concerns as quickly as we can but sometimes our team has to prioritize requests depending on the severity of the repair. You are always welcome to give us a call if you would like to check on the status of your request. If you have any additional suggestions for our team on how we can begin to improve your stay, we would love to hear from you!
The management staff here is constantly losing paperwork and non responsive. They have lost my insurance verification and then charged me for insurance AND late fees. The workout equipment has been out of order for over a year. The on site laundry can only be paid for with a prepaid card that is recharged by a machine in the workout room, which is closed after 10pm, and sometimes it's broken entirely. I'm moving out now and they won't even respond to background screeners request to verify tenancy, claiming that they either never got it, or maybe their broken fax machine ate it. The pool is only open for a couple months, when it's not closed for maintenance during those times. You can't call maintenance directly in any way, they use a third party call center that isn't located nearby, so maintenance response can be drastically delayed, even when it's important. Just a nightmare. Don't live here unless you have no other choice.
The pictures aren’t what you will be getting at all, the living room had huge stains in the carpet upon move in, they weren’t there when we looked at the place a week prior and the property manager said that it would be cleaned but never was, the bug problem is out of control, our neighbors were drug dealers and the cops were in and out of the apartment complex busting down doors almost monthly, not to mention the FBI (yes FBI) that had to come, on top of that our car was stolen by people who lived in the apartment complex and when we inquired about cameras they said they have none. We also had a huge mold problem during the winter because the windows aren’t sealed properly so water leaks in everywhere and there’s only one air conditioner unit for the entire apartment so good luck in the summer. The only up side to these apartments is the office staff because they were always very nice but they didn’t help much with any problems
i have mixed feelings about Rock creek 185. for the most part it was okay in that the rent was really cheap and it was fairly quiet and chill. towards the end of our lease (the last 5 months) the place got sketchier and sketchier. i had a total of 2 cops come up to me asking about a certain apartment or looking for someone, there were teenagers that would party all the time and trash the place, trash would pile into the hallway from the chute, there was literally a guy living in his van outside my building, i saw three people get evicted, 2 arrests, at least 5 broken down cars, and countless cop cars. to say it was active would be an understatement. but still, overall chill if you mind your own business and the grounds were pretty around the ponds. when it finally came time to move out, we deep cleaned the apartment had everything in order, the place looked great. to my surprise, i got a letter from rock creek saying i still owe them money. apparently the $500 deposit didn't cover the "standard cleaning". standard as in base cleaning, as in exactly what your deposit is supposed to cover. i tried talking to the property manager Eleanor but it was a bust and i ended up giving the complex another $130. i should've trusted reviews i read online about how much money they rake you for at the end. but i'm so glad to be done with that office, so glad to be out of there. if you have to deal with them, literally only talk to bekah. she’s so nice and helpful. and don’t even dare try to call the office.
My girlfriend and i lived here for 2 years. Constant management change and not reliable office staff. Have a lawyer handy because they will screw you out of as much money as they can. I repeat, DO NOT TRUST THEM.
I called to ask about a listing that I had seen online for a unit and the lady "Jasmine" said hold on let me check I don't know if it's still available one second. Then she hangs up on me. I call right back and no answer. I call 3 minutes and no answer. Clearly they do not appreciate their business.
These apartments have large amounts of BLACK MOLD in the walls and floors! There is garbage EVERYWHERE! The management is negligent and retaliatory. PROTECT YOURSELVES
Stay away! These apartments are absolutely disgusting and have a serious black mold problem! There is garbage everywhere including hypodermic needles, multiple building code violations and the current landlord will retaliate against you if you attempt to exercise your rights as a tenant! She and all the other office employees are extremely corrupt and they ask their friends to post fradulent positive reviews online! PUBLIC HEALTH HAZARD
I am writing this as I pack up my apartment to move to my next location. This was my first apartment in Portland, Or and I only chose Rock Creek 185 since it was all that was available in my price range. I signed the lease without looking at the unit and moved out here. Yes, the apartments are not super fancy and they are older, but the office and maintenance staff are great. They are always on top of things and I have never had any issues with my unit. I would say for this area (and what I have seen) the unit I have is semi updated. It does not have the newest cabinets and appliances but they are updated from other units I have seen in the area. The location is also great!
Each time the rent increases the token 10%; they inform you of this at the 30 day window so you'll need to decide to Put in a notice at that moment. That alone seems cavalier. I've seen rats in the ivy and around the pond; it doesn't help when people feed the ducks. And as with service requests and dealing with any questions to the management, I've given to being patient and realizing that I'm only an inconvenience to them. Yea what the earlier reviewer stated about the laundry was correct. The card reader will also take your credit as well; a joke at best. Was not impressed with the whole experience.
So the Rock Creek 185 apartments are in a good location.... That's about all they have going for them. They are over priced and will bump your rent up with out any type of notice or letter or phone call. The people in the office are rude and judgement plus the fact that the "office manager" calls in sick at least 2 times a week. The maintenance people are terrible and won't ever return your calls regardless of when you call or what has happened. If you need something fixed here, you will have to do it yourself or just live with the problem. Ohhh speaking of problems we had a roach problem for 2 and a half months before the office would even acknowledge that there was a problem that was so bad our entire building had to be fumigated. The washer and dryer are a scam and 85% of the time are broken. So after you carry all of your clothes down to the inconviently placed laundry room, your just going to have turn around and go find a laundry mat (the closet one being 3 miles away). Let's not forget the fact that everyday they have some incompetent lawn service come out at 7am to blow leaves from one side of the parking lot to the other. So if you like waking up to the sound of leave blowers this place will be great for you. For me, this has been the worst apartments that I have ever rented. I will be moving as soon as my lease is up because if I do it any earlier the will charge me an extra 2 months worth of rent.
We moved from Hawaii around 3 months ago and agreed to rent here before we ever saw the place in person. We are so lucky that this is such an awesome place and much better than the apartment we left in Hawaii. These are older complexes compared to other ones I've seen in the area but haven't seen any affect on quality yet. Unique in that there are separate buildings set in a circle with about 10-20 apartments in each building. In the middle of the circle are ponds with ducks and a tennis court and lots of grassy areas for kids to play in. Pleasantly surprised that in the middle of August with all the water around, we haven't had a single mosquito bite yet either! All the front desk staff are very friendly. I have had to put in a maintenance request for my garbage disposal and it was fixed within 4 days and that was with me just giving them permission to come whenever, you also have the option to set up an appointment if that's better. Finally, it's within walking distance to some of the shops at Tanasbourne, I'm walking weekly to Target, Starbucks, Regal Cinemas, etc. Highly recommend this complex!
the apartments are located across the bridge from the tanasbourne shopping center and about a mile from PCC Rock creek. lots restaurants, grocery, and department stores within walking distance. the price is great for the location. great court yard area with a pond full of ducks and geese, and a pool. free parking with the option to rent a covered parking spot but it really isn't necessary. downsides: the gym isn't that great, older equipment and not much of a selection either. open access to public there is no gate or anything like that but there is security, have had religious people knock on the door but they left when i said no thanks. overall great place with a good office staff that is very helpful with a great location that wont be super expensive.
Seems a little spendy for what you get. The water is a co op so we have to pay separately for it and then still have to pay $3.00 a load in the laundry room attached to our building. Rent is high for square footage in our apartment but the management isn't nosey and neither are the neighbors. Location is pretty and quiet. And the unit comes with AC.
Apartment has plenty of space. Nice and roomy but has a few problems. The base board heat is expensive to use during the winter. Because of the loft it is also hard to cool down the upstairs during the summer. Sound isn't muted either. You can hear everything from downstairs just as well upstairs. There is a smaller washer and drier in the unit but it is located in the kitchen.
Other than the duck pond smell and the uncontrollable amount of fruitflies if you live next to the garbage on the inside in the apartment complex and one day you wake up to fleas and your to broke to get it and that the fact they put together their apartments a little to quickly and rush things
