In 1899, Baltimore was connected to Ellicott City by trolley. An undeveloped area about halfway between these two cities developed, and by 1913, Westgate was beginning to take shape. As a result, most of the homes in Westgate were built in the early 1900s. These homes tend to be bungalows, Cape Cods, and Tudor-style. Westgate begins along the Baltimore National Pike and extends south to Frederic Avenue, roughly three miles north of the University of Maryland-Baltimore County. Described as family-friendly and close-knit, Westgate is a terrific option for your Baltimore apartment, especially if you'd like to be close to the city but in a quieter community. Westgate has easy access to mass transit, with a MARC station leading to DC, roughly 38 miles southwest. Downtown Baltimore is about five miles east.
Several shops and restaurants are located just outside the neighborhood along Baltimore National Pike. The nearest grocery store, Giant Food, is on Edmonson Avenue.

Property Ratings at Rock Glen Apartments
The neighborhood is calm, quiet and safe and the maintenance is very fast and I had a very good experience with it. I received the apartment very clean and the behavior of the leasing office was very kind and caring
Residents keep putting food on the stairs and bugs keep crawling in my apartment. Do not live here because they don’t properly check the apartments before residents live here. Some of these apartments are not renovated so beware old appliances and dirty apartments !!!
This place sucks! Within 3 days of moving here, we had mouse problems from previous tenants. Our stove had a lot of mouse drops and hasn't been changed because the office completely ignored my request to order a new one! The water bill is shared and we are now being charged around $120 per month for water for 2 people. It's a ridiculous amount for 2 people. There are constant shooting in the neighborhood! Save yourself time and money by choosing a better place to live. The apartments have the worst painting possible, the cabinets are old and with grease. The laundry room is completely neglected and super dirty and it doesn't do a good job cleaning your clothes. Picnic area shouldn't even be called that! The space and grills they have are absolutely unusable!
I have a unique story of how I came to be a tenant, nevertheless, upon arrival I did not get an apartment with a balcony as promised. I let that slide. Once moved in and settled, the noise level was beyond reasonable. Complained to the leasing office and it was as if I never made mention of it. My last year as a tenant, my then boyfriend sent me flowers and was confirmed delivered to the leasing office, who denied having received the delivery. The grounds were kept up pretty good but I didn't like how they plowed around the vehicles instead of asking everyone to move. So when you'd come home, the parking space you shoveled would be taken by some other lazy tenant. Certain staff was great to work with but some were not. Maintenance was great and typically responded quickly and at that time they would leave a maintenance note. I guess reading other reviews this policy has been changed. My only fear was being on the bottom level and feared someone coming through one of my windows. My two neighbors were nice and conscious of the level of noise they made. Unfortunately, every time other tenants would come down the metal staircase, it would be so disruptive at all times of the night i.e. after I've gone to bed. Every now and again, someone would come through blasting their music but again, it would typically be late in the evening or middle of the night. My apartment was always cold and I would end up with a high utility bill. The walls proved to be thin as I would hear one neighbor on the 2nd floor, but not directly over my apartment, vacuuming late at night. I complained about it but nothing was done. I finally moved to a sister community.
Housing options are scarce nowadays but I would strongly advise not renting at these apartments if you can avoid doing so. The front office staff are extremely rude, abrasive, and uninterested in your rental concerns after you sign your lease. The maintenance staff enters your dwelling without leaving notes. If you select a two bedroom unit it will be actually a one bedroom unit because the master bedroom will be so cold it will be intolerable. These are just a small list of the things that are wrong with this community.
When I first moved in Rock Glen Apts they were a good fit. Pretty quiet, decent neighbors, maintenance came quickly. Appliances and everything outdated but was okay to deal with for the price. But that didn't last long; Items were stolen off my balcony. You don't know if maintenance was in your apartment or not because they don't leave notes. they got all new maintenance men and they all did terrible work. Then my Apartment was broken into. People outside shooting. That was my time to go. And your move out bill is going to be higher than your rent because they want you to pay for to fix everything that looked like crap when you moved in. So all in all, don't move here, save yourself the headache.

Perfect sized apartment for two. Lots of closet space. Nice, quiet community with off street parking. The kitchens are a little small, but they do make gathering and preparing items fast due to proximity. Responsive staff. We've never had an issue in 6 years that's not been taken care of in a timely manner. Not that we've had many issues, though. The property is well maintained, as well as the common areas. One thing that can be problematic is that there are 2 washers and dryers per each 2 connected buildings, but if you're flexible when planning to do your laundry, it's not too bad. Very convenient! Less than 15 minutes from the Inner Harbor, but removed from the downtown hustle and bustle. Less than 5 minutes from I-695 and I-95. Plenty of shopping within a few minutes drive. Easy access to CCBC and UMBC by car or bus.
This is a very nice community. The staff is very friendly. Any time that I have called maintenance they came right out and fix whatever issues that I have. I live in a pretty quite building. Hallway is kept pretty clean. Laundry room uses a laundry card, don't have to worry about getting change. I would recommend this apt community
