Property Ratings at Rockingham Estates
The apartments themselves were great as far as space and layout were concerned. My family and I were tenants there for 2 years and the only communication my husband or myself ever had with the landlord or his wife came after they decided to go through with an eviction over one month's rent mind you that one month's rent was late because both my husband and myself came down with covid the only thing that these property owners care about is the monetary income they get from the rent each month it takes them forever and a day to answer any type of maintenance request my family and I were without a working oven from January 2022 to August 2022 the fireplace which is also an amenity of each apartment stopped working in February 2021 and the maintenance request for that was never answered. In September the Friday before my family and I were set to host a birthday party for our daughter my husband and I were served eviction papers we went to court agreed upon certain terms followed through on those terms and on December 16th 2022 we again were served with orders to vacate over the fact that December's rent had to be split into two separate payments December's rent was paid in full by December 23rd yet my husband and I along with our 12 year old daughter are now sitting in a hotel.
The apartments are decent as far as layout and space, however the tenants they rent to aren't all that great. When any complaint is brought to either the (part time) manager or the landlord himself it is either brushed under the rug or smoothed over for that moment. The back and forth of the "I'll take care of it" verse the "it can't be that bad" type attitudes makes it difficult to live peacefully or confidently. I had high hopes for a long term stay but due to the lack of care or true follow-through that didn't happen.
I've seen multiple similar reviews on websites, so thought I would share our experience as well. My husband and I rented here from early 2011 to end of 2012. We paid rent on time every month and decided to leave due to the increased rent after we went month-to-month. We gave them a security deposit and a pet deposit. We understood the pet deposit was nonrefundable. We had the apartment professionally cleaned and took great care of it. Regardless, we never got our security deposit back and did not receive any explanation. We attempted to contact the manager multiple times, she never answered. We attempted to contact Joel (owner) multiple times and was repeatedly ignored. We even ran in to Joel's father and was given a new number, which was never returned either. Basically, he made out with our security deposit and, from what I've seen, many others. Rent here if you don't care about wasting your money. Besides poor ownership and management, the unit was good and we had wonderful neighbors.
My family and I resided with Rockingham Estates in De Pere, WI from November 2015 through March 2015 while our new home in Winter Garden, FL was being built. We paid rent through April 2015. When we signed our lease we were asked to make a rent and pet deposited and were assured we would be refunded upon the completion of our lease. My husband and I have made numerous attempts to get in touch with the apartment manager and complex owner without any resolution. The apartment manager has referred us to the complex owner several times and upon leaving messages for the owner, no calls are returned Better Business Bureau in hopes of getting this issue resolved almost 6 months later. We are very displeased with this treatment.
