Airy was recently listed in the USA's Top Ten Best Big-City neighborhoods by CNN/Money Magazine. It is an ideal place to live, work and raise a family. Just close enough to Center City, Philadelphia, to be accessible for a wide range of cultural and recreational activities, West Mt. Airy boasts tree-lined streets, playgrounds, quaint shopping areas nearby – in short, the best of the city with the best of the suburbs. The Wissahickon section of Fairmount Park, itself the largest city park in the country, affords many opportunities for wandering trails, mountain biking, and feeding the ducks at Valley Green – all within walking distance of many of the homes in West Mt. Airy. In addition to being close to Center City, West Mt. Airy has its own cultural and recreational assets, including the Allens Lane Art Center and Mt. Airy Learning Tree. In addition, West Mt. Airy residents live close to two other thriving upscale neighborhoods: Chestnut Hill and Manayunk. The Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA) is the mass transportation agency that services Philadelphia, the four surrounding counties, and part of South Jersey and Delaware. In West Mt. Airy, the R8 Chestnut Hill West rail line is the main form of transportation into Center City. There are numerous stops within West Mt. Airy, and there are three main stations in town, 30th Street Station in West Philadelphia -- which is also the AMTRAK station -- close to the University of Pennsylvania and Drexel University; Suburban Station in the center of town, where you can also connect to the Broad Street Subway and other lines, and Market Street East, which delivers you to the Galleria Shopping Mall.
