Hi there, thank you for taking the time to leave a review for us at Runaway Bay. We're happy we could meet your expectations! Please don't hesitate to reach out if there's anything additional we can do for you.
Absolutely terrible floors. You hear everything and the creaks just from walking. If you’re not on a top floor, you won’t ever even be able to sit in your own living room peacefully.

Thank you for taking the time to share this feedback. We want you to feel comfortable in your home so if you believe your neighbors are violating our community policies, please let us know directly. I would love to discuss this but I will need to know where you live and have you report it to the office so we can address it. We hope to talk with you soon.
The name says it all. RUNAWAY. Complete slum, buildings are beyond repair, they refuse to do the bare minimum such as clearing out dryer vents so you don’t have to dry clothes for 6 plus cycles (put in 3 separate maintenance requests in the 10 months I was there) thanks for the extra utility bills I truly enjoyed spending half a day drying anything. there were 2 shootings in front of my building in the first 3 months I was there. I had the renovated unit, it is slapping lip stick on a pig. They nickel and dime you for everything. INSANELY over priced especially considering the quality. My balcony was detached from the building when I moved in which if you look around is not a surprise. All of the wood is dry rotted and decayed every where, to an unsafe condition. I moved out the very second my 10 month lease was up after considering just abandoning the lease as it was less than acceptable. I moved out the same time the neighbor below me moved Out as we could not “runaway” fast enough, other neighbors remarked they were jealous! Windows you have to use a screw driver to get to close all the way and can still hear a whisper outside. Valet trash pick up is spotty at best, engines revving for hours on end at all hours of the night. I could go on about what a disaster this place is. Hands down the Worst place I have rented across multiple states in my entire life and not even close. I am not one to post a negative review typically but I could not in good faith not warn others. It is a complete dump. Do not under any circumstances rent at this slum. High crime, high prices, low quality, cheap management and the most ridiculously low quality buildings you will find. Rented a 2 br townhouse a few streets away for less than what I was paying there. I’m sure their response will be “it is fairly priced compared to the market” it is not, you could make something out of legos with higher quality. Do not make the same mistake I did or the countless other residents who leave the second their lease is up. You will see a lot full of uhauls on a Saturday for a reason, they are RUNNING away from runaway bay.

We apologize that your experience with our community has been anything less than exceptional. Our team is committed to providing stellar service to all who walk through our doors and we are sorry to learn that we fell short of your expectations. Thank you for bringing items to our attention. We have completed a full property dryer vent cleaning to help ensure we keep the air flowing correctly. We have replaced numerous stairs, balconies, and wooded area around the property as fast as we can to ensure safety for our residents. I would love to address the revving cars as sadly the office is not open past 6:00PM, we do rely on the community to bring those issues to the office and inform us of which unit is causing the disturbance. I have looked up this information and can not find a record, I would be more than happy to discuss this further with you to avoid future residents to have to endure this. We will most certainly use your comments to refine our efforts to ensure these issue do not happen again
By far the WORST APARTMENT I have ever lived at!! They charge this "low" base rent to appear attractive to people but then find ALL kinds of ways to add fees to your bill. They charge for trash pick up whether you want it or not and they have the worst trash system after with trash ALL OVER THE PLACE. They charge for pest control but apartments have roaches there like they pay rent too! The visitor parking is a whole other thing. $5 per evening/night if someone is there after 6pm or else they get towed. $50 per month to have a permanent decal. The one for my car get damaged trying to remove it when I got a different car and then I was billed another $30 per month to have it replaced, PER MONTH! Then billed for it again AFTER I Ieft to go live somewhere else because I didn't give them the damaged one. The place stinks ALL the time. They quote its non smoking but weed and smoking dwells there like crazy. My last might when I left had 3 water bills for some reason and another set of fees appearing like I didn't pay them before. They are extremely opportunistic and I would never suggest anyone every live here. The apartments look NOTHING like what they advertise and nothing about them are "updated" This "new" management staff is the worst and so are their policies. Its all a pile of crap! I wanted to leave the very first week I was there!!! My final bill had 3 water bills that were each double the charge of what I pay now for a two bedroom apartment when it's only a 1 bedroom and I have a way bigger and nicer apartment. The have it all thrown into their leases to protect themselves but I fell for it due to timing and but doing my due diligence. DO NOT DO IT!!! There are better places to live for the money!!
Property Manager at Runaway Bay Apartment Homes, Responded To This Review
Mr. Forbes, we try our best to prepare residents for potential fees in advance of moving out. Ultimately, additional charges are dependent upon the condition of various spaces/ items in your home which are more readily identified after move out. A parking policy is signed by each resident informing them of all rules upfront. The rules are explained in various places to avoid misunderstandings and signed by you the resident. We are not a non-smoking community and it is not advertised as such. While I also understand your frustration as far as Marijuana is concerned we follow all local laws. Your water is billed in the rears as explained in numerous places as well. We do offer weekly pest control services and anytime a resident needs service we are more than happy to add them to the list. If you have any further issues please reach out to the rental office and we would gladly assist.
Great experience! Love the staff and my neighbors. The apartments and grounds are well kept, and there is plenty of parking for residents and guest. The location is centralized to all of my needs which is a huge plus! Love that dog are welcome and enjoyed.

I moved into the Runaway Bay 2 months ago and my experience has been fantastic. Sara went out of her way to help me finalize everything needed before move-in. She made the process seamless!! When I arrived on move-in day, I was shocked at how clean my unit was. Not having to deep clean made move-in a breeze! The community is clean, quiet, and well maintained. When I have maintenance needs, they are completed so fast it is like there was never a problem! I am so happy to be living here and can't say enough amazing things about Sara and the Runaway Bay team!

The building manager and staff are attentive to resident needs and organize events to foster building community rapport. Zoey took her time to make sure that I had the home I wanted as well as needed. With a gym, pool, dog park, playground, and more the community is the perfect place to call home. New appliances and updated cabinets make for a beautiful living space.

"A great place to call "HOME". The entire staff always greets you with a smile and is very helpful to our needs, and is quick to attend to any problems that arise. They are very pet friendly! My dog LOVES a walk to the office to visit his favorite leasing staff for treats and pets. The grounds and facilities are kept clean every day by friendly courteous workers. The workout rooms are open 24//7 and are rarely crowded and the pool area is lovely. I live alone here and could not feel safer anywhere else.

Thanks, Neighbor! We are incredibly grateful that you took the time out to leave us this feedback. Our company values resident satisfaction as top priority.
Very inconsiderate people at the office. They lack communication and don’t care about their tenants. Wouldn’t recommend to anyone in Va. I really wanted my experience here to be good but was completely mortified.

I recently moved into Runaway Bay Apartments and I am enjoying it so far. I interacted with most of the employees at the leasing office and I had pleasant interactions with all of them. They were all friendly, knowledgeable, and willing to help me as I navigated the leasing and moving process. It has been mostly quiet around me; there is some minor noise from the roads nearby but I have not heard my neighbors much at all. It is a peaceful place to live overall. All of the people from around the complex that I have spoken to are very friendly. There are always people around walking their dogs and enjoying the beautiful amenities around the complex. There is ample parking for both residents and visitors. The parking lot is kept clean. The valet trash has always been picked up on the scheduled days as well. I have had no issue with package deliveries- everything is always brought straight to my door. I put in some maintenance tickets with the leasing office for some minor issues that I found at move in. The leasing office staff was very helpful in putting the tickets in for me. Maintenance came very quickly and fixed all of my issues. I have only had positive interactions with maintenance as I have spoken to them around the complex as well. They are so friendly! Overall, I am enjoying my new apartment so much. I only have positive interactions and experiences to share from the time I have been here. I am so happy that I chose Runaway Bay Apartments.

I’m a new resident ...moving in at the end of March. So my review is solely on the office staff. Everyone has been so helpful in helping me and my daughter feel comfortable in our move. I sent a long email yesterday 2/06/19 asking lots of questions! I wanted to change the apartment we were moving into. Gabrielle helped us out and showed of another apartment (we needed to see one without a fireplace) mind you I’ve seen the model about two or three times and another apartment was shown to us. I’m very anxious before I move into an apartment and she didn’t make us feel like we were a bother at all. I appreciate it so much and we can’t wait to move into the community! I’m finally excited about moving in and that is thanks to this wonderful staff!! The staff is so important when leasing an apartment because they set the tone of your entire experience!! Hi, thank you for taking the time to leave us feedback. We are so glad to have you here with us!
My fiance and I were looking to move urgently due to the fact that my job required me to stay more days with my patient here in Virginia Beach. They helped me to get the apartment i wanted and needed in less than a week regardless of how hard it was to get paperwork faxed and signed over from one state to another. I have the floor i requested and the new appliances. Its peaceful and close to everything. Thank you guys?

This is by far the worst place I’ve ever lived. Rude customer service, found cockroaches in my apartment, so many things wrong the day I moved in. Save yourself the time, DONT DO IT!!!

I'm telling you now, you will never see your deposit ever again. I asked multiple times about the water-bill and they gave three different answers. At first I was told that the only utility bills I would have to worry about was my cable and electricity. Then after I signed my lease I was told that the first three months I would have free water, they told me it was apart of a special. Then when the lease runs out I find out that I owe them 3 months worth of water and that they would take it off of my deposit. On top of that, upon leaving I was told the carpet had unrepairable damage to it and that I needed to pay 750.00 to take care any remaining bills. Believe me they charge you 1k plus for a 2BD/2Bath but all you are paying for is the location, the apartments are trash.

We toured here two years ago, but settled on A different community instead because we couldn't decide between a nicer and large 1 bedroom with everything we need (w/d, dw) or a 2BD/2BA apartment. Now that our lease is almost up and we've decided we definitely need the 2BD/2BA, we wanted to tour again to refresh our memory. Our experience was NOT a good one. We did not receive a friendly greeting from the leasing consultant (not once did she mention her name so I couldn't even tell you which one she was.) She was very dull during the entire tour and seemed like we were inconveniencing her. She showed us a 2BD that was already leased and as my boyfriend and I asked several questions and took our time looking around (as you should) she rushed us by rudely saying "well you have time to decide anyways" in an attempt to get us out the door. She spent the entire time trash talking the neighboring communities to try to make them look like the superior one. We took the walk back to the office building where she made us stand outside in the heat (it was in the 90s that day) to ask us her finishing questions instead of offering us to go inside in the AC to cool off. She gave us basic information and sent us on our way. Needless to say, Runaway Bay has been crossed off our list.

Office staff is the worst and the quality of the apartment is horrible. I have had nothing but issues that the office refuses to solve. If you can live with roaches, everything falling apart, lack of parking spots, getting towed at random, and noisy neighbors this is the place for you! Save your money and find somewhere else.

Going on 4 enjoyable years. Best rental property I have lived in. Office ladies are attentive, responsive, FUN and appreciate the tenants. The maintenance guys are the same. Every month or so the ladies have a get together (Xmas wrapping, dog day in the pool, pool party, etc.); helps us get to know our neighbors. The grounds are very well kept. I work out of my home and really enjoy the free entertainment watching the ducks & squirrels play! A safe, well kept community. Come & join us. David P. (6/30/17)
Starts out fine but if you plan on staying longer than a year, don't do it. No upgrades or incentives to renew your lease. Rent goes up every year and your share of the water bill gets higher every month. Frequent water outages with no warning. No snow removal in the winter. No salt on sidewalks. Management and after hours security do nothing about noise complaints. Dog owners do not pick up after their dogs and nothing is done about it. One entrance floods every rain storm and there us standing water for days. Rats in walls that management blames residents for. Maintenance staff is poorly trained and condescending if you call more than once for a repair. Squirrels in crawlspace that won't do anything about. Rent to college kids who have no respect for other neighbors. They pad their reviews by having employees, their friends and family post gushing straight from advertising type ads. No grace period on rent. Pet deposit and regular deposit and they will still say it's not enough for wear and tear when you move. Dumpsters are always overflowing. Some patios look like a hoarder's paradise. Management will write you up for things you didn't do and ignore things other people do that are blatantly against rules. Some apartments have utilities included. Some don't. If you have a financial hardship like a government shutdown and ask for some leeway, they quoted the eviction policy. They say handicapped accessible but the apartments are not. Some buikdings have bulging, rotting railings, patios and siding. Fence is knocked down and neighbors cut through property to get to Bonney Road. Kids hang out in parking lot blasting music. I think you get the picture. So... if these things don't matter to you, come on over. The pool and clubhouse are pretty. The ducks and geese are cute. The front office girls are nice. Lower your expectations for everything else and don't rely on the gushing reviews. Good luck!
I contacted the leasing office about their available apartments. The woman that was helping we was very nice and quickly provided me with their available units and a quote for the monthly rent. It was a bit higher than the advertised pricing, but that was due to the short term lease that I needed. The problem came after I submitted my application and was contact by another representative, who informed me that they were updating the appliances in the unit and that it was going to cost me almost 100.00 more per month because of these upgrades. If you are looking to rent from Runaway Bay, be careful the price doesn't run away from you.
My sister and I just moved in and we LOVE our new place. The carpet and tile was replaced before we moved in, it looks fantastic. We've yet to have any noise or parking problems. So far we have been very impressed with the property and the management.
