Rockaway is a small suburban borough located thirty miles west of Manhattan along Interstate 80. Picatinny Arsenal sits just north of town, making Rockaway a popular home for military personnel and civilian military employees. A small Downtown district at the corner of Main and Wall Street features a quaint assortment of local businesses in vintage storefronts, while a larger selection of shops and restaurants can be found along Route 46 on the south side of town. Local favorites like The Exchange and Potbelly’s Riverside Café are also scattered throughout the landscape, allowing many residents to walk to their favorite hangouts.
The Rockaway River is lined with parks as it passes through the middle of town, creating an environment perfect for spending a relaxing afternoon amid the region’s lush greenery. The massive Rockaway Town Square shopping center sits just minutes to the west, serving as the area’s hub of shopping, dining, and entertainment.

Property Ratings at Rustic Ridge
Been living here two years in two different apartments. We only moved because we needed a bigger space. Noise complaints here are comical, compared to living in Jersey City. Needless to say its very quiet and yes you hear footsteps upstairs but its no big deal. I didn't give it 5 starts only because the apartments are not the best looking compared to all the new ones being built.
We lived here for three years and it was pleasant. We had to move from a one bedroom to a 2 bedroom after the first year. Just understand if you get in this situation they will displace you and all your belongings for two days even though you are moving within the complex. We had our daughter the day the new lease started and there was no understanding of this at all. They recommended renting a pod but it was a few hundred dollars because you must rent for the month. It was a nightmare and I wish we had known all this beforehand. We were never late on rent and were good tenants so we were surprised they just said that's the way it is sorry.
It's very rare to find an apartment that is not only nice but well maintained and managed. My husband and I have lived here for 4+ years and had a wonderful experience. The apartments are very well maintained, questions or problems are addressed immediately, and the location is amazing! There's usually a waiting list, but If you're able to get a space I wouldn't hesitate. Highly recommend!
I have been a resident of Rustic Ridge since November 1st, 2016 and love living here. Most of all I'd like to praise Sheila, not only for being such a caring person to all who live here, but she strives to get the jobs done in timely manners. My younger son and his family also moved into Rustic Ridge and they also highly praise Sheila as I do, and many of my new neighbors also. She never once has rushed me off of the phone, she listens to you and I cannot tell you how much I appreciate patience, for I was a Realtor in NJ for 15 years and I do understand how hard it can be working with the public. Rustic Ridge is beautiful and well maintained, I also give Kudos to Chuck and John who work very hard to maintain the complex grounds. And I love not owning a home anymore; no more property taxes, property is well maintained, great neighbors and my family close by! What else can I ask for in life but good health! So looking forward to the pool opening up! Whoa Rustic Ridge!
as we get older it becomes more difficult to care for a house, so my husband and I decided to rent an apartment. Rustic Ridge is the perfect place for us. Its very quiet my husband is home all day, I work twelve hours a day Monday thur Friday. Our unit is right next to the pool and playground which is great when the grandkids come over... the laundry room is at the end of our building very convenient. The mall is right next door!! I've only had maintenance once in two years... everything is very well kept. The people in the complex have all been really nice, and they are all different ages ... I would recommend Rustic Ridge to anyone...GREAT place to live...
My husband and I moved into a one bedroom apartment in 2013. The poximity to the major highways and shopping have been amazing for our family. You cannot beat the location. When we grew to a family of 3 we moved to a bigger apartment in the complex-we didn't even think about leaving. The office staff is very helpful (some are more friendly then others-but at the end of the day they always help you!) and the property is always kept up great. Even the past couple of winters that have seen record amounts of snow they managed to keep the parking and roadways as accessible as possible. I leave very early in the morning for work and I still never had a problem with snow removal. The price for the apartments are great too. It is on the cheaper side for the area probably because the complex itself is a little dated but they have recently updated kitchens and baths in all of the apartments with granite countertops and new cabinets. It's also more of a townhouse feel-you have a shared building entrance with 3 other apartments before your own entrance so you have privacy and security rather than an entrance right off a path or parking. There are also a wide variety of layouts depending on the style and # of rooms. Bedrooms are a great size (we have very large bedroom furniture) but I do wish the closet space was a little bit larger in the bedrooms-we both have a lot of clothes. The storage thoughout the rest of the apartment is sufficient. Any less would be not enough, but more would be overkill (And I love to shop!). Also, although some units have a washer/dryer hookup, most do not. There are laundry rooms located conveniently throughout the complex but it would be even better if they had more units with laundry hookups. They are very quick to respond to issues in your appartment and make fixing them convenient. Overall I would highly recommend renting in Rustic Ridge!
