From the sandy Hoffman Beach on Lake Parsippany to the beautiful homes in tree-filled neighborhoods, Parsippany exemplifies New Jersey's "Garden State" slogan. The town is award-winning, often topping "best" lists for places to live, and it has been a "Tree City USA" for more than 40 years. The town's history dates back to the first Dutch colony established in 1611, and several historic locations provide a glimpse into the town's history. One of those locations, the Benjamin Howell Homestead, was built in 1763. Another, the Stickley Museum at Craftsman Farms, was designed and built by Gustav Stickley -- the only home he built for himself. The museum offers guided tours of the 1911 homestead, which provides a unique glimpse at the arts and crafts movement.
Parsippany wraps around two large lakes, Lake Parsippany and Boonton Reservoir. It is home to several parks and golf courses, adding to the natural beauty of the town.

Property Ratings at Rutgers Village Apartments
Managaement is rude and nasty (Linda), every year they go up on rent, air conditioning is old and don't work, takes forever for maintnance to fix something and they walk in your apartment with no warning or knowledge whether you home or not. It say no pets but plenty of people have dogs and cats. No insulation you hear everything from your neighbors. Bedroom and living room has no lights in the ceiling which is weird. The cost to use the pool is outrageous. The dryers and washer machines are garbage also. The playgrounds need to be replaced there are unsafe for children to play on, they have broken jagged pieces old and wobbly
During the showing and signing the contract all you will see friendly people and smiley faces but once you move in, you are on your own! All you will hear is “we dont do this”, “we don’t do that”! I am not sure how educated their management is but they just don’t understand one simple rule: keeping a tenant is much cheaper than getting a new one!
The maintenance for this place is terrible. You can't get things fixed, have been trying for 3 months for them to either fix or replace my ref/freezer and they don't want to hear it. Air condition unit stinks, doesn't work properly, again they don't care. They start out being nice and then once you move in forget it. These are just a couple I know of other people who have complaints about maintenance also.
Summer is HOT in the bedroom - air conditioner units are old and does not reach the other room (windows go left to right, not up and down so in-window units are hard to find). VERY noisy - whether upstairs or downstairs - if your neighbors are disrespectful/noisy, it gets annoying quickly. Bedroom is large with a walk-in closet more than enough for 2. Sizable apartment with good storage (especially if you have a second floor, you have access to attic).
Best value for the money in the area including square footage. Laundry is cheaply priced and convenient. Surrounded by tons of excellent restaurants in walking distance with wawa on the corner.
If you get an apartment next to Paul Miller Audi you going to be fitting with Paul Miller Audi employees for parking spaces. They all park in Rutgers Lane and they take all the spaces in front of the apartments. So if you come home between 9 - 6 you are lucky to get a parking in front of the apartment. Also the walls are so thin so if you have smoker neighbors you can smell the cigarettes smoke inside your apartment
No insulation in the ceilings. My upstairs neighbors footsteps shake my apartment at all hours. You can hear everything from footsteps to rolling around in bed. Would not wish this on anyone.
There are huge roaches running around everywhere outside, by doorsteps, sidewalks, curbs, in the grass! Lucky to have only one inside, so far!
Property Manager at Rutgers Village Apartments, Responded To This Review
Our exterminator visits Rutgers Village at least twice a month and performs routine inspections of the foundations, basements, crawl spaces, building perimeter and grounds. He also responds to any tenant complaints regarding pests and addresses treatment needs for individual units as they are reported. In recent inspections he has not found roaches around the building exterior, but he has found several crickets, which are common this time of year. We encourage our tenants to report all issues with pests immediately to the rental office. We do not pretend that issues with pests do not exist on our complex, but rather we take a proactive approach to exterminating in an effort to keep all pest issues under control. Our goal is to provide clean, comfortable and enjoyable living space for everyone. Please call the rental office to report all such issues!
