Property Ratings at Rydal Apartments
The only redeeming quality about this property is the price. The apartment layout is awful, you share a vestibule with a downstairs neighbor, the walls are paper thin, the apartment itself gets too hot and the ac unit in the living room doesn't help at all. the bathroom is not properly ventilated so be prepared for mold. There are year round problems with mice and hornets/bees. the leasing office is not responsive to the issues.
Hi I have lived here for eight years now and I’ve seen a turn around in the leasing office and this year and the end of last year we were very blessed to have Shannon and Melissa that really turned our community and Southgate and Rydell apartments around if I put a work order in through email they get right back to me if not the next day they have been trying hard she worked from home and they have been doing a wonderful job if I can say so and also as well as the maintenance When we need there there soon as that work order goes in I am very blessed to have a unity community in my courtyard there is very very a lot of great things about these apartments I would suggest anytime anyone looking for apartment or a good neighbor check us out
I’ve lived in this complex for many years. Each time I’ve needed the assistance of maintenance- for emergency or non-emergency services- they’ve always been thorough, respectful, understanding and dedicated to getting the job done. That goes a long way with me as a resident! It’s always nice to see their presence on the grounds- always friendly, always working. We’re even on a first name basis. Thanks so much to Fernando and Ferdin for always coming to my rescue.
I ignored some of the bad reviews I saw when I chose to move here and I wish I didn’t! My dishwasher has been broken since I moved in, by broken I mean if I run it, the entire kitchen floor is covered in water, and my kitchen sink floods anytime I use it... so I’ve been washing my dishes in my bathroom sink for 7 months now. Southgate has done nothing to fix this problem even after multiple maintenance requests were sent in.
Some of there reviews are a bit overboard but the matinence sucks they never actually fix anything and the office staff can be rude when you call about getting things fixed.
The apartments are average, nothing to complain about regarding appearance. Noise is an issue as you can hear every time your neighbor comes and goes as the shared entrances make it a noisy environment for the resident on the first floor. In addition, the staff is extremely slow to follow up on requests and less than professional/courteous. Within the first two months, there was a cockroach in my apartment.. which is extremely clean. The washer and dryer areas are inconveniently set up as you have to walk to another side of the complex to fill the card they provide (there is only one machine to refill with funds). This is not safe or convenient at night as lighting is not the best and bushes are too high in dark areas. We have also complained about potential mold and the office is not interested in doing anything other than discounting what we are experiencing.. Thank you entertaining my imagination.

We are very disappointed to hear that your experience thus far has not been satisfactory. We understand that these are older building so you may hear noise from time to time. Also, pest control is free to all of our residents, please feel free to give us a call if you need to be placed on their schedule for preventative maintenance sprays. Lastly, we are sorry that you were not made aware that there are two laundry rooms where our residents may access the machine to refill laundry cards (Buildings 3 & 27). We would like the opportunity to speak with you and address any additional concerns you may have in hopes that we can change your outlook on Southgate & Rydal, please give the property manager a call at the leasing office at your convenience (609) 298-2011. We look forward to hearing from you! - Southgate and Rydal
Ever since new ownership about 24 months ago, the new ownership and most of management (it's a revolving door, one in and one out every few months) has been a literal nightmare. It's literally like pulling teeth to get things fixed, and most of the "fixes" are nothing but temporary bandaids that do not actually fix the root issues. We've had an AC unit (15 years old) with mold inside that they've made the workers repeatedly clean (3x), claiming that the mold is the result of the AC not being properly tilted. However 2 weeks later, the mold returns everytime. We've had our shower tiles replaced 3x because you cannot actually clean the soap scum (the bathrooms do not have any time of fan or ventilation, thus the soap scum is impossible to truly address in the warmer months) without them coming unattached. Our ceiling has been continuously sinking down lower and lower in certain areas, while the walls are literally cracking up towards the ceiling. Those issues have been repeatedly addressed with a quick spackling job, completely ignoring the root cause (water leakages). The electrical circuit's are decades old, and combined with the long term water damage that is beginning to seep through the wall, it's a matter of time before a fire starts. I guarentee it. Instead of hiring licensed professionals, they put everyone at risk by allowing their own maintenance workers to evaluate and patch up these life threatening risks. I would NEVER move here with my child or children as a disaster is imminent. When you first move in, they will show a much more attentive side, however that will not last long. Be ready for your rent AND deposit to increase annually, without them giving you ANYTHING in return. In December it will be 4 years that I've been here, and the end of my lease cannot come soon enough. I'm disappointed in myself for waiting so long exit my leave, and to speak up on a public forum, but we are now at our wit's end, and its became evident that this is a deep rooted issue with nearly all the apartments, and thus it's important that families know what they are getting themselves into when they sign a lease here.

We are sorry to hear that your experience has not been a positive one. We appreciate all feedback and use it to improve the service we provide to our residents. We would like the opportunity to address all of the concerns you've mentioned. Our service request turn around time is 48hrs and if your requests remain outstanding, your requests should be escalated and brought to the property managers attention. Please feel free to give the property manager a call at the leasing office (609) - 298-2011 at your earliest convenience so that we may resolve these issues for you and discuss your options to possibly transfer to one of our newly renovated apartments which do not have any of the issues outlined in your review. We look forward to speaking with you! -Southgate and Rydal Management.
My husband and I needed an apartment in a good school district for our daughter. The apartment's perfect in size for the three of us (2 bedrooms). The pool's an awesome added bonus and we use it all the time. The office staff is always quick to answer questions. Haven't had any issues and have always felt comfortable here.
You will regret it! Management is nit picky about ANYTHING you leave outside - even a small cup to hold cigarette butts. Bike or scooter for your child? Forget it!!! "Emergency" maintenance takes their time, general maintenance is done as little as possible and they do a cheap "slap it together" fix. They'll tell you one thing to get you to move here and then take it back when you're locked in to a lease. Oh and we had ROACHES.

This is the absolute worse apartment I've ever lived in. The first year we didnt have many problems. The 2nd year we got new neighbors upstairs and new management. The walls are sooo thin and the "mandatory" area rugs required on the 2nd floor make no difference at all. The apartments have silverfish bugs (those gross long bugs with a lot of legs) uggh they creep me out. The bathroom continously gets mold on the ceiling and in the tiles and the back of the door. The air conditioner also gets fungus like mold on it. When i called the office to have them come out and treat the mold, they come and left a note for me to just open the window when we shower because they dont have fans. I've never had to do that before. I clean with mold remover and it comes back very quickly. There is definitely a mold issue here. Another time when we called because our shower was leaking, they came in and took the showerhead that i bought off and replaced it with the generic one that comes in the apartment then they just left mine on the floor. They tracked mud all in my apartment and on my bathroom rug. After all that, the shower still leaked. The office manager didn't seem to care. She offered me a $5 laundry card to use in the disgusting laundry rooms. They barely clean the laundry rooms and there's always human and cat hair in the washers. We have to go to the laundromat to wash clothes everytime. This place is terrible. Annd there's not enough parking.
NO RENT STARTS HERE AT $910 - maybe back in 2010! Cats cost extra $$$/month. No bike rack, can't lock bikes outside or leave toys outside. 1 Recycle can per building - ours forever overflowing and trash forever blowing across lot. Parking is a joke - never enough spaces yet 6 handicapped spaces in front row (stupid!). Lawn crew does good work but neglects huge branches that fall over walkways. Winter crew - dangerous icicles from leaking gutters form over entrance steps. No one shovels nor SALTS walkways! Been here 3 years - never salted anything. All wire in building is ALUMINUM - and cause of great misery (and outlet fires). Plumbing - leaks at sinks and toilet, our toilet old and needs replaces as barely flushes or forever clogged. Lights in parking lot so dim can't see your own keys. MAJOR SKUNK PROBLEM - almost sprayed twice. Six bottoming-out speed bumps to travel 150 yards - total overkill. Expect to pay $60-100/month minimum for basement laundry equipment. ABSOLUTELY ZERO STORAGE! Cannot speak directly to owner to resolve issues as LLC translates to mystery owner (some dude in New York). $10 fine for accidental lockout per incident and $50 late fee if rent past 7th of month. Closets have cheap bi-fold doors sticking out. Break so much I simply removed. Never clean 2nd floor outside windows, or cover our ACs in window. No patios, no stoops, no balconies. Fined if leave toys outside for your kids or dry towels outside in the sun. Working on cars, cleaning cars, washing cars - frowned upon by management. No outdoor electric outlet or water spigot - have to drag extensions out door and haul buckets of water respectively. Can hear neighbors walking around BELOW me! So-called "free heat consists of asinine pipe valve 12 inches off of floor with NO THERMOSTAT! Shower - torture session, cycles hot & cold during showers. Bathroom sink takes forever to warm yet kitchen so hot can scold your fingers washing dishes. All 40 year-old appliances electric NO GAS and old dishwasher costs about $5 per load just in electricity. Has a nice pool, but has big crack refuses to repair, NEVER OPEN ON MONDAYS!
I lived in this apartment for 2 years and never had any issues. Leasing office is too good in proper response for all my queries. Especially Karri is too good person. Clean snow removal and less electricity bills are a plus.
I called to ask if their website was true on a one bedroom for a certain price the lady that answered the phone was rude didn't greet me told me that the internet was wrong and she do not know where they're getting their information. didn't try to help me at all. how can you have a website and do not updated it. its all false information. if there website is wrong that leads me to believe everything else is.
We moved into this apartment complex with the notion that it was an average complex - not the greatest but definitely acceptable for younger people just starting out. I think the ONLY thing that I can say is good about this place is the fact that I have yet to see any cockroaches or mice.... YET. We moved into a renovated apartment and it was NOT EVEN CLOSE to being ready by the day they said we could move in. The renovations were done extremely poorly, the painted walls were drippy and disgusting. The tiling in the kitchen was not done. The sink leaks horribly...the electricity goes out at least 3 times a day due to a short. The wall in the bathroom was "respackled" because it was extremely rough and unpresentable looking... it still looks horrible, along with the trim that's falling off. We have put in several complaints to the rental office, but most things have yet to be fixed. It seems like they do not take anything seriously. Also, there are several huge potholes throughout the parking lots. Overall, this apartment complex has the potential to be a great place, but it seems that everything they do is a lazy attempt at the real thing. I just felt that since we opted to pay more for a renovated apartment, it would have atleast been average, but that was NOT the case.
We are a newlywed couple and were excited to move into an apartment so we didn't have to worry about maintenance issues. I think we have put in more work here than we would have in our own house. The description says "modern amenities" what they don't tell you is that when they break (our dishwasher has been broken for three months), they are very slow and difficult to get fixed, not to mention you are paying more for the "amenities". The office staff is incredibly rude, and the maintenance staff is incompetent and sloppy. They do not leave notes when they come, they used our materials (tools, a whole box of baking soda and gallon jug of vinegar, and our personal (irreplaceable) glasses to clean out molded water) and left our kitchen with disgusting water on the floor, muddy footprints, furniture moved and their tools lying around (after being 45 minutes late, after demanding we be there when they needed us to be. Needless to say we are extremely unhappy and will be moving as soon as we find somewhere else to live. It is not worth the price for such a hassle and such awful service!!!!
I recently moved out because the office staff was horrible! Whenever I had a problem they would never answer the phone. I would call from a different number and they would answer right away which made me believe they have your number on caller ID assigned to your apt number. Nothing ever got fixed, not because of the maintenance but because the office never notified them. I advise that no one ever moves there because they will have the worst experience
