Settled about eight miles northeast of Downtown Austin, Walnut Creek is a peaceful, industrial area that features fantastic commuter options. Between the public bus routes, access to both Highway 290 and 183, and proximity to the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, travel is a breeze. Though Walnut Creek is mainly industrial, there are many suburban streets around the town filled with homes and apartments for rent.
Walnut Creek, named after the creek that runs through the neighborhood, boasts many outdoor spaces like the Big Walnut Creek Nature Preserve. Take a stroll down the scenic Walnut Creek trail, or travel a few miles to the Walter Long Metropolitan Park. This city park has a large lake that’s perfect for swimming, fishing, and kayaking on a warm Austin day. Along the major roads in the neighborhood, you’ll find businesses, services, and casual restaurants, along with unique finds like Meridian Hive Meadery.

I loved living here, quiet complex and Brent and the office staff are always so nice and helpful! Only reason I moved was to get a yard for my elderly dog, otherwise would still be living here. Would definitely recommend this complex to anyone!

I have resided here at Salado for over 5 years now and I must say that this is one of the best places I've ever lived. The staff is amazing and have always been johnny-on-the-spot when it comes to any repairs ever needed. Would definately recommend as a place to live.

If I could sum up the reason for our stay here being so trouble-free, it would simply be, Charmagne. She is the best person we've worked with and keeps the place running ship-shape. Everyone is else great as well, but she really makes the place shine. The amenities are well enough, everything you could need. Trash can be a trip depending on where you end up, but gotta get those steps in anyways. All for a price that was the best in the area. Helped us save up to put a down payment on a home, but a lot of residents choose to stay there for years. (Our neighbor's been there for 15 years I think?) All in all, a pretty great place to live.
Office staff and maintenance members are always very helpful. Is a nice and quiet place to live.
As title suggests, I've lived for four years of my young life here at Solado, and I have no complaints. My moving isn't a reflection on my stay, rather, the quality makes me rather melancholic about packing up all of my things. The time's simply come for me to move on,but onto the apartment. Any issues maintenance-wise were resolved quickly, and were few and far between. Place was safe, people were friendly, I never feared my apartment being burgled if I went on a trip. Management were polite, friendly, and helpful, especially Brent. I had a lot of fantastic interactions with him, and am confident if ever I were to return he would set me up. I don't know what apartment the low reviewers were living at, but it certainly wasn't this one. Good price, good place, good management. There's really not much more to say, if I weren't moving I'd be renewing for another year.
I have lived in these apartments for almost 4 years and have loved it. Response times for maintenance were extremely quick, like with in 24 hours quick, and the management team is amazing, especially Brent and Charmagne. They are always happy to see you, no matter why you're there.
Management is a JOKE. Suspicious activity at night, cars driving slowly at 6am around parking lot. Cars vandalized, broken into, sexual harassment to mothers while loading their kids into car. Reported to management and they advised to write down license plates and report it to APD, who they NEVER show up to this apartment complex. *Supposedly there is "security" ,that patrols by speeding in the parking lot. People are always speeding, almost got run over several times because there are blind spots in the parking lot plus residents don't care about slowing down. * Tenants can do drugs to management knowledge and not get evicted at all. Noisy neighbors, constantly disturbing at night, from parties, to domestic drama, to popping fireworks from a balcony. Pest control is a complete joke, their " treatments" are uneffective then management blames tenants for their incompetence. Roach infestation for months. Just giving a little bit of what I had experienced living here, honestly consider another place to live and save yourself many headaches. * Maintenance are often clueless of how to fix isues, they report them as fixed but be prepared to constantly deal with the same issue over again. *
I lived there for 5 years. Don't live on the first floor by the basketball court because the ball will hit your window constantly and it's annoying. It's very loud over by the basketball court area. The water is constantly off due to busted pipes or leaks. My apartment had a leak in flooded and they never replaced any of the flooring or carpet when they knew that it had mildew in it. Getting them to come and do any repair maintenance is also difficult and when they do come you can't understand the maintenance guys because they don't speak English most of them and they only half repair it they don't they just patch it. I've been there through 3 Management's and this last one Brent has been the best he does a good job for what he has to work with.
ROACHES. BEWARE. The good: price, proximity to major highways, secluded, maintenance responds within the day. The bad: 1. Quality: Sloppy construction. We've been obviously lied to about fixes. 2. Guest parking: If the space does not have VISITOR PARKING painted, you're towed within the hour to Round Rock. 3. Water: the pipes burst constantly. Constantly. Which makes showering, laundry, and dishes challenging with zero water pressure. Additionally, our a.c. unit above the toilet leaks sporadically despite having been "fixed". 4. Bugs. Quick summary- Salado has done so poorly handling this issue, it is THE reason we are moving. The roach infestation is out of hand and I am disappointed with how we have been lied to and ignored. The complex sits on a repurposed landfill next to a creek. So a few pests are to be expected. However, we have an INFESTATION. I have gone to the front office to report, and request pest control. We were put on a "list" for treatment and told by an employee that we should stop spraying any household product after the first treatment because: "The poisons will cancel each other out". Bull. Regardless, I obliged and waited, while roaches flooded out for a couple weeks. Yikes. The second treatment never came. I reported back, was put back on the list after said employee argued that I did not need the treatment, because it just "takes time". More lies. Said employee did not tell me *when* pest control would come again causing a month of miscommunication and no treatment. By this point, I'm killing 20-30 every morning. After months of this back-and-forth "list", the unit has been professionally sprayed TWICE IN A YEAR. I've been put back on the list, and have been waiting in roach purgatory for weeks. The roaches are unbearable, and in the time it has taken me to write this review the body count is OVER 50. I wish I could attach photos of the infestation. We found a loose piece of particle board from the cupboard that roaches came out of. Sure enough, the board is a nest. I took a photo to the office; the maintenance team arrived and took measurements. The next day, one man came by with a nail gun and permanently affixed the old, infested board. So that sucks. Not helpful. Another photo shows paper towels laid out displaying 5 minutes-worth of killing a swarm of 30-something. So to summarize, this complex has failed to resolve many recurrent issues. And expect to be swimming in roaches.
What they gotta do is Fix the basketball court and put a black top over it so it can be used in rainy weathers and they gotta do something with the fence that's in between the Salado apartments and the other apartments because people from the other side go underneath the fence to play in our basketball court. Please fix these big problems. The basketball court was broken for like 2 or 3 months and it's still not fixed. I think it's time it should be fixed.
I love the property management team they are very professional at all time. When I go to the office they make me feel like I am family. Mr.Brent is awesome and Crystal humble and Ashley very sweet spirit and the new lady beautiful smile.
When I moved here, it was right in August during the whole college town move-in period. The city was at like 99% occupancy, so I ended up resorting to an apartment finder service to locate a suitable property. Salado had an opening at the time, and the people at the service said nice things. It became very clear the moment I met with Ashley at the front desk (more on her later) that the apartment finder contact knew her, and that this wasn't the first time they had set someone up here. The enrollment and application process went smoothly, and they even overlooked a mark on my credit report to get me into my place. The apartments themselves are okay to good. They have decent floor plans, they don't feel too cramped, and depending on which side of the complex you're on you can get some nice patio views as well. Decent parking availability, two small pools, and a small child's playground. The gym is a pulldown machine and some treadmills. Nothing special. The maintenance guys are all great and friendly but most of them don't speak English. Here's why this is a three-star complex: This is the absolute closest you're going to get to living in Austin on a budget. There's absolutely nothing of worth within walking distance, but you can drive anywhere downtown in 15 minutes or less once you learn the roads. Try and move half a mile closer, better add $300 to the rent. That said, it won't last long, my rent went up $50 when I renewed my lease. Here's why this isn't a four-star: Management. Brent, the main guy, is an awesome person, but most of what's wrong has nothing to do with him in particular, because you almost never deal with him. 90% of the time, you'll deal with Ashley, and she isn't really the kind of person you want manning the front desk and being the face of the management. Don't bother trying to get anything other than a serious emergency in your apartment fixed, because she won't submit it. I'm still waiting on service requests I made the first week I moved in. On top of that, the pest service contractor they use is pretty much a joke. Because the apartments were built on top of a landfill, and next to a creek, there's inherently more insects. If you get roaches, or ants, or any other kind of insect, and you're on the first floor, you're out of luck. The guys they send in are literally high school kids. Ran out of room, so... TL;DR: Cheap and close-ish to downtown, but you get what you pay for.
Grounds and common areas are kept clean. Have a nice park for the kids and 2 big and clean pools. Apartments are fairly nice and maintenance request are prompt most of the time. Lots of parking space. Water bill is pretty expensive. Have experienced roaches infestation lately and a lot of humidity in the unit. Rent amount is ok, but goes up a lot in every renewal. Management will not offer discounts or renewal deals for loyalty.
I lovemy apartments the staff is amazing, and everytime I put in a maintenance request it gets done same day, the pool is great and all of the amenities as well. I just love them!
We been here since 2000, yep that is 15 years in the same apartment and we have seen it all. The manager on site now is one of the best and he will work with you and I trust him fully, Let me tell you, that has been real rare at this location and a host of horror stories As long as we have this site manager we will remain at Salado .
