Newark’s dominant landmark and cultural hub is undeniably the University of Delaware campus, where the student body nearly matches the city’s population of permanent residents. Accordingly, many of the community’s resources are tailor-made for the collegiate crowd: an eclectic mix of restaurants and nightlife venues lines Main Street on the north side of campus, and affordable apartments are easy to find anywhere in town.
Despite the fact that it is primarily a college town, Newark maintains a diverse population with rental options available to suit any lifestyle. The sprawling nature preserves that border the northern end of the city provide gorgeous settings for hiking, camping, canoeing, and simply enjoying the great outdoors. Just thirty minutes from Wilmington, Newark also makes an excellent home base for commuters.

Love this apartment. I have been in both Salem Village and Village II apartments and love them both. Nice quiet community. Great office staff and maintenance staff. It is like living in a little house with the front and back view of apartment. Highly recommend....

Hi, thank you so much for the incredible feedback. We appreciate the kind words!
I’ve been here for almost 2 years. The office staff is great. They are all so polite and helpful. Maintenance is great at what they do. The location is great as well. It is close to the mall and the grocery store is minutes away.

As always, if there is anything we can do to assist you further, please do not hesitate to contact us.
All I can say is the property is well maintenance and quiet. The main office is totally awesome and always there for you. Their attention to detail is phenomenal! The only reason why I left the property was to move into my forever Home. I will truly miss this place and all my neighbors. Kathy is the office guru and takes very good care of everyone's needs. If you're looking for peace of mind and great environment this is the place to be!
The time I stayed in these apartments there was a problem with roaches in the building I was in. Plus it was constant flooding. The flooding damaged some of my things including there carpet. They put it on my credit and I paid it so I could move into another place this held up the approval. So I proved to them they was responsible for the carpet replacement they know the reason there carpet needed replacement but they refuse to refund what I had to pay on my credit report. I would not trust this place. My apartment was not the only apartment that had flooding problems but I am sure they try and make the residents pay whenever they can.
Please don’t waste your money to move here! I live in Salem Village 2 & it is the absolute worse! I have never had to put in so many work orders at an apartment in my life! From my ceiling in my bed room having brown spots every time it rains to my washer breaking the first time I tried to use it! Now on the hottest weekend of the year my ac breaks! I go to the rental office and they are not sympathetic to my issue. They gave me a wall unit and I can’t run that and my microwave at the same time because half the electricity in my apartment goes out. They use a 3rd party AC company so the guy comes and says he has to order a new compressor which takes another week! I have not been so ready to leave a place in my life and if I can prevent anyone from wasting their time and money I would be happy to do so!

Thank you for your feedback. We always aim to deliver a great experience. I am glad to hear we were able to find a temporary fix by offering you a wall unit while awaiting a technician. We are of course disappointed when we miss the mark with providing a positive resolution! I trust that this issue has since been resolved. Thanks for taking the time to bring this to our attention. We will use the feedback to make us better and to ensure this doesn’t happen again. Please feel free to reach out to me at corporate@pettinaro.com or call our corporate office at 302-999-0708 with any further comments or questions. -Kind Regards
I've been here about two years in VILLAGE II, I've been a faithful renter and loyal to the community. I've had nothing but issues since moving in. I have to say, I am very unhappy. I have had numerous problems since moving in 2016. The first few problems were when I first moved in. Someone defecated in the toilet and left it, so the first time I opened my toilet seat, there it was, looking back at me. Then the first load of laundry I did was set to be dried, I noticed large spots all over some garments. Then what I could dry, there was 2 handfuls of lint in the lint trap before I could even start. There has been pink, black and brown sludge that leaks out of the side of my tub occassionally, no matter how much i scrub or clean it. My tub was not put completely together when I moved in and I even had water spraying out of my tub and wouldn't turn off at some point. There's many more issues but the ones I am most upset about involve water and wet carpets and huge dehumidifiers that are loud. My issue is with the water here, it constantly goes from hot, to cold, to scorching. My bathroom has had water spray everywhere because something randomly popped off my toilet at 8am. I have had maintenence in my apartment the past two days because my sink keeps overflowing randomly. And i'm stuck with large dehumidifiers making it extremely hard to sleep or enjoy my home because they are so loud. I've reached out to maintenance and corporate to possibly switch apartments but to no avail. I've evern reached out to the corporate team. I don't feel like they care about me. If they fixed these issues and made things right, I would totally change my tune and review but as of now, I am unhappy and disgruntled. Don't waste your hard earned money.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review for Salem Village II, at Pettinaro Residential we strive for a positive resident experience for everyone who calls a Pettinaro Residential Community home. Please whatever you do. DO NOT SPEND YOUR HARD EARNED MONEY TO LIVE HERE. TRUST ME ANYWHERE ELSE IS BERTER! Drug deals everywhere. The office ladies are fake rude and incompetent. The exterior of the buildings are the only thing new. Bugs!!! I know 3 people that got black mold because the manager or the maintenance team refuses to fill work orders. Then want to sue the tenant for there being black mold. Not safe! Floor boards sticking up under the carpets, no privacy due to extremely thin walls in the apartments. TERRIBLE COMMUNITY! Don't be the next VICTIMS of this apartment complex. Don't let the fake charm trick u into signing a lease with the Devil. It's a year you will never get back. I wish there was a no star rating!
I have lived here for about 5 months. The updated apartments are really nice. Great neighborhood, good for families/single parents. Pretty good school district for elementary level kids. The pool is a nice touch, very convenient. The "fitness center" is not a fitness center at all. So if you're looking for a community with an actual fitness center don't do it. Ventilation isn't the best in some units so watch out for moisture and mold. Open windows are your friend! The absolute worst part is the parking!!!!!!!! Buildings 621, 611, 601, & 591 have it the worst. People who don't belong here park behind our buildings so if you have small children or tons of groceries, be prepared to walk and be inconvenienced. Overall I give this complex a 3 out of 5. We'll see how I feel after my lease is up.
Salem Village Apartments in the suburbs of Newark, DE is tucked away in a open wooded area. My daughter, husband, and I have lived here for almost 3 years without any major issues. We rent a 3rd floor 2 bedroom/2 bathroom, livingroom, dining room, and kitchen with walk in closets, and lots of closet space. It is also pet friendly. The grounds are cleaned everyday and well kept by the groundkeepers. We have a gym, a nice size swimming pool, tennis and basketball courts, a daycare center on the property, and nice size parking lots that are well lite at night. The rental office staff are very professional and kind. We pay $925 a month for our unit. We are across the street from a small shopping center where you can get food and items for your home at the Dollar General, Wawa, Dunkin Donuts, Domino's Pizza, a laundromat/dry cleaners, nail salon, barbershop, a pub, and two other fast food stores. Major shopping is less than a mile away. We are close to Christiana Shopping Mall, and Christiana High School is across the street. This is a great place for families or single people to live. I am happy to call Salem Village Apartments home.
The apartments are spacious and fairly priced. They are also in a good location close to grocery and shopping. The only cons are that the kids in the neighborhood hang out in the hallways and are noisy, and there are a ton of bats that live in the cracks and crevices of the buildings. If it weren't for one entering my apartment home, I wouldn't want to leave. So if you don't mind the bats, and kids hanging out then I'd highly recommend these apartments. Front office staff is friendly and helpful and maintenance is quick to fulfill work orders.
