Property Ratings at Sand Castle Apartments
I’ve lived here over 5 years and the manager, Kareen, and the maintenance guy, Jose are the friendliest people you can know here. They do their best to meet your request as needed. The manager sends out various notices regarding the complex, especially the use of guest parking being abused by renters. Overall, the manager and staff does an awesome job!!
Make sure before you commit yourself, that you let the manager know that you know your renters rights ,I was there for 3 years ,after time the manager started to have a negative attitude on me, threating to tow any vehicle that belonged to a guest of mine even if they were parked in a guest parking space , making the same threats to my daughter after she moved out ....this behavior left me baffled...also there's a problem with psychodidae infestation (drain flies, sink flies or sewer flies) the building where my unit was located at should have been fumigated,I brought this to the attention to the manager but she refered to me as being insanitary...when you do move out be prepared to pay for a new stove & new dishwasher, she will claim cockroach infestation... in my 3 years there I didnt see a single cockroach when I was there..& I can swear a stack of bibles on that....& also hats off to Jose the maintaince man, with the limited recourses he has at hand he'll do everything in his power to make things right......

I am so sorry that your stay at Sand Casle was not as you planned. Upon reading your review i would like to clarify all you have mentioned. First and foremost the condition the unit was left was extremely Horrible. As a manager i do not go into move out units with the plan on replacing appliances, carpet and flooring. Please note this is an expense for our property. At the time of the move out the head of household refused a move out walk thru, which i told her that she really needed to do. She refused. The head of household did tell me that the cats had infact ruined the carpet and the flooring and that she was aware that they both will need to be replaced. At the time that i walked the unit, after the keys were turned in, i opened the stove and dishwasher only to have roaches come out of them in waves. The condition of both appliances merit that they both be replaced. Upon my conversation with the head of household regarding the condition of the unit and applicances, she apologize and confirmed that she did not call. Had i received a call to inform me of the roach infestation, i would have sprayed the unit immediately and the surrounding units as well as preventative maintenance. These situations are taken serious. I had to get a special machine to make sure that every roach was killed. I would like to point out that i had a wonderful relationship with the head of house. I was always willing to help with any situation that would arise, she would volunteer for the holiday activity so i really do not understand where i was negative towards any resident in the unit. As per your visitor parking. in a community of 121 units with only 11 guest spots i do manage them strictly because if a visitor uses the guest spot daily, i think it is only fair that the other residents to have an opportunity to have their visitors use the guest spots. In addition, you are mentioning that i was negative towards your daughter when she moved out. I would like to clarify that your daughter never moved out or you never processed paperwork that she was moving out. At the time of your move out, the daughter was still a resident, which meant that YES she was told that she could not park in guest parking since she was infact a resident. Residents are not allowed to park in guest parking. In addition, Pictures of all the damages were sent to the future address. Nothing was hidden from you. Everything from pictures and documents were all sent to your attention. I will continue to take pride in our community that is one of the best in the city of La Habra. I will continue to treat all my residents with the respect and care that i have given them for the past 11 years.
The landlord was always extremely unfriendly to my and my roommates. It seemed she always had it out for us. On our last day she tried to claim we were missing keys and we’d have to pay MORE rent. I knew this was not the case as we had checked the night before to avoid this very situation. She presses us that we are in fact missing a key. I call my roommate if they key was on the ring he gave me and he said it was. She checks again and it turns out it was there. So ridiculous. For the security deposit there was some absurd charges. We got around half back, but the prices just made no sense. Should’ve at least been 3/4 in my opinion.

I am so sorry that your experience at Sand Castle was not as you planned. But just to clarify and give what actually happened - because its always good to hear both sides - When you and your roommates gave notice, you were given a move out form that clearly stated what would be your move out charges. That form was signed by all roommates, which meant that every resident read and understood it. Also at the time of move-in ALL roommates were given each a set of keys and remotes. If you do not return keys and remotes, you will be charged for them. That is common practice thru-out all property managements. In addition, all units come with a garage and a parking. Residents were not allowed to park in guest areas, which was something that was done constantly. Once again, i am sorry that your experience at Sand Castle Apts was not great. My sincere wishes that your new home is wonderful.
I miss my apartment. I lived here for 4 years and it was the best experience ever. I am also in the property management industry and I am impressed with how Karen and Jose are very passionate about the community and residents. The community is always cleaned, notices are always posted and residents are aware of what is always going on. There was always community events for the children and adults. I never got to go to any because of course I worked. But they try to make it feel like a close knit community. It's hard to please everyone because some people feel the need to be fed by a silver spoon but if you are looking for a clean, family friendly community this is the spot. Thank you Karen and Jose for everything.
I lived her for a year and i want to warn everyone that a majority of the residents here are seniors and complain about every little noise. My kids could not play outside, even bounce their balls on the way to the car or even use the swimming pool without complaining. They should just label these apartments as Senior living homes now its so sad to see a community like that the manager should put her foot down kids cant be kids here and god forbid you make a noise living here is like walking on pins and needles. Good Luck!!!

I am so sorry that your experience at our community was not positive. Although we are a family community, we also strive to accommodate all residents. We welcome kids and realize that they also need to run and play but our policy is that all kids be supervised by an adult and that they not play on the streets that cars drive through, this is strictly for the safety of the kids. and also that they keep the noise to a minimum if they are playing in between the buildings. Once again, I am so sorry for any inconvenience.
This is the first time my roommate and I have stepped outside of our parents house. We walked around the apartment complex on a Saturday day around 12 and it was quiet. We immediately went back that monday to see if there was any apartments available. To our luck there was; a two bedroom, two bath (the one we were interested in). Filling out the paperwork was a breeze and if we had any questions Kareen was there to explain to us anything. Once we moved in everyone was so friendly, the apartments on the outside and inside were very clean. We live on the second floor right by the pool and we can barely hear people while they are in the pool. This apartment complex is starting to become our home more and more everyday.
The apartment is very clean and spacious. My roommate and I have more than enough room and we even have our own bathrooms. The property is well kept and clean. Neighbors are friendly and the landlord is always there if you need her.
