Property Ratings at Scottish Highlands
My husband and I lived at Scottish Highland Apartments for almost 4 years (2019-2023), and we have nothing but good things to say about this place. First of all is conveniently located close to all groceries stores (Aldi, Walmart, Buehlers) and a short commute to downtown. The apartment is big (we rented the two bedroom/ two bathroom), with plenty of natural light, closet space, an open kitchen, and comes with a washer and dryer. There is enough parking for everybody, and if you want to, for $35/ month, you can rent a covered garage. The neighbors were always kind and quiet! Overall, it is an excellent value for money! We definitely recommend it!
As another person who reviewed the Scottish Highlands said: "It used to be a great place to live. The new management company has accentuated the words" used to be." What this place has become in the two years of this management company's regime is. Pothole laden, overpriced, antiquated pool and exercise equipment, marginal landscaping, cracked walkways and A thief paradise. In just 13 short months, the management company has increased rents an average of $125 a month while reducing maintenance of the property. Add to the rent increase, renters now have to pay for water. Before this management company's arrival water was included. Add the average water bill to the increased rent and the 13 month average increase is very close to $175 a month. A suggestion to potential renters. Walk the property carefully. Look at the driveways, exercise room, pool lounge chairs, the non trimmed bushes covering windows, cracked walkways, numerous missing shutters and broken or very old exterior light fixtures. And, remember, after your first year, Leases are not offered. Meaning, additional rent increases can happen again and again and again.
After three weeks of minor cosmetic changes that were used to increase the rents, the new management company has all but disappeared. The drive way is littered with potholes. The management company filled a few of them with jagged rocks and left the vast majority untouched. There is only one, overworked, maintenance person on property. After your first year, leases are no longer given. That way rents can be raised as often as the management company wants. The sidewalks are full of cracks, outside light fixtures need repair, renters were very recently told to lock their cars do to increased theft. The exercise room is supported by 12 year old equipment and the pool lounges and chairs are also 12 years old and should be replaced. Free water is now you pay water. That runs about $40 a month. That $40 can be added to a recent $50 a month increase in rent with a second rent increase expected in June, 2022. And the pool is so well maintained that it was closed three weeks early last summer for repair. Interested in this place? Walk the property carefully but don't fall into a pothole.
