With its beautiful homes beneath mature shade trees, sidewalks, and historic downtown with charming buildings housing locally-owned businesses and restaurants along brick-paved walkways, North Plainfield is anything but plain. This jaunty little town is very walkable, and you'll see students in backpacks walking to school, parents pushing strollers to the corner market, and neighbors out for afternoon strolls. It's called the "Proud City," and North Plainfield has plenty to be proud of.
The Washington Park Historic District, home to gorgeous Victorian architecture, features a Victorian Christmas House Tour and Art Exhibit and other walking tours. Washington Rock State Park is a historic site with fantastic views -- this was a lookout point during the American Revolution. The Watchung Reservation, on the north side of the borough, is ideal for hiking, camping, cross-country skiing, fishing, and outdoor ice skating.

Property Ratings at Greenbrook Gardens
I was floored with the beauty of the newly remodeled apartments that they are now offering. The staff did a fabulous job of showing off the great features this community has to offer. I know where I'm moving into!!
I came in on Saturday as they were getting ready to close and Fabian was so great in accommodating me at the late hour. I was never rushed and he answered all my questions. Marilyn showed me the amenities in the building while offering me a drink and was very pleasant to talk to. I plan on coming here at the end of my current contract! Thank you!
I always dread having to move, but to move out of state on my own for the first time is scary. I stopped in on a Saturday and the leasing agent Fabian was obviously busy, working with people in the office, answering phone calls and working on paperwork. It didn't matter. When it was finally my turn, he treated me like he didn't have anything else in the world going on around him and dedicated his time to me and my million questions. He was a true professional, taking time and care to answer all my questions completely and honestly. He even suggested some of the great spots to eat and shop and made me feel completely at home! The tour was just as exceptional. I saw the clubhouse which is definitely newer than most around this area, with its gym lounge and pool, the laundry rooms were clean and the apartments are surprisingly nice and modern. I was impressed. Every single question I had was answered, relevant information about schools, shopping and local transportation was answered with great detail (down to the exact bus line and rail line to/from NYC). I left feeling really good about the property; beautifully kept and peaceful and Fabian's knowledge of the property and housing as a whole was very apparent. The only reason there are no 5 stars is because the price was just too high for me. Should my circumstances change financially I will be returning to Greenbrook Gardens in hopes at renting at this location!
I lived here for 1 year in 2020-2021 and moved. Two years later, I am moving back and couldn't be happier. The leasing team, Fabian and Barbara, are top-notch professionals. They made my return expeditious and hassle-free! The grounds are beautiful, and the apartment is lovely. I love the upgraded appliances (stove and fridge). I enjoy having my morning coffee on the deck as I listen to the birds hum. It's peace and tranquility for me once again. Thanks, SDK!! I am back to stay.
Any property updating so much so fast is bound to have growing pains. Doesn’t seem to be the case here. New heaters and AC’s, laundry rooms have newer machines, excellent lawn care, maintenance done the same day, the gym is always super clean and the office staff is friendly. The guy is patient and knows his stuff while the whole staff is friendly and helpful. Would recommend!
SDK Management took over about 4 years ago and did a lot of upgrades to the apartments and community. New roofs, new doors, new HVAC units new toilets and a new Community Center that includes a pool and fitness center. Clean and safe community.
Maintenance and management are always there when I need them. Grounds are well kept. New community center is very beautiful and adds a sense of luxury to the complex. Overall I have no complaints!
If I could give them zero stars,I would. The new owners are doing all they can to push the old tenants out to increase rent for new incoming tenants. Central A/C has not worked in most of the units the ENTIRE summer. When asked when it will be addressed, the answer is "we're waiting for our home office to give us an update...sorry for the inconvenience." Really? It takes 3 months to get an update? No central A/C for an entire summer in New Jersey is more than an inconvenience, especially when that was a selling feature for this complex. The on-site manager is incredibly unprofessional - answers the phone on speaker and makes it every apparent that your call is bothersome to her. They just implemented a new parking policy requiring guests to park in only 2 locations in the entire complex...regardless of where the unit they are visiting is located. And the tenant needs to print guest passes. But of course, that link on the online portal doesn't even work. This place used to be so nice with an incredibly friendly and knowledgeable staff there to help you. Now, each tenant is just a number or $. These people are unprofessional, inept and completely unethical.
Horrible neighbors that don't have regard for their noise, a maintenance man even got into an aggressive argument with a friendly comcast worker. If management doesn't feel like actually fixing an issue, they "close" the request and never do it.
With the new management, there is no such thing as privacy. The maintenance workers are at my apartment at least once a month, sometimes more often, whether I am home or not. They constantly have to check something, do an inspection, or fix something, even though I've never needed maintenance. The office management is rude and unaccommodating. The projects stretch for months without being completed, the grounds are uglier, the parking remains a mess, and there is constant noise because of unproductive construction.
I have lived in Greenbrook Gardens in North Plainfield NJ for 2 months now and it is awful. I can not wait until my lease is up I am dreading the next 10 months.
Horrible Management. You wont be happy living here
Please dont rent any apartment here . I am seriously thinking about leaving it . staff is rude and the web site system is such a scam it cost me $100 for no reason . Terrible and horrible construction workers. Area is dirty too. They dont take complaints seriously and dont listen at all. They are only here to take money i am waiting for my lease to finish . it was a nice place until SDK took over.I have stop calling and telling them about service complaint because i know no one will going to come . please go some where else . its a worst place now .
I am reading what people are writing and I am sad. actually I have lived here for over 10 years. I love living here because its my home. The new owners are doing a good job. They are redoing All new landscaping- it looks amazing with new trees, plants and stone benches. All the sidewalk are getting done- which were never done by previous owners. I never had a problem with maintenance. They are on top of it. I have never seen any management do so much work in just 8 months of them being here. I hope they continue to do to good work, as the end result will be stunning.
Over past 9-10 months, this location has gone horribly downhill! The pictures on this site were taken before SDK took over. If considering moving here, drive around to REALLY see what the grounds/buildings look like. The staff is complacent & RUDE (never care when someone calls, they flooded floors with powerwashing, told me to take care of it), maintenance is understaffed or just doesn't care to fill orders (still waiting on sink & tiling to be fixed from 11/2015), utilities may be included but you'll pay more in electric to even out with places that don't ($200 /mo during warmer months for 750sqft and 2 people), the AC units are 15 years old that PSE&G stated it may be better to use a window unit to drop costs down, the grounds are a wreck from the continuous construction & landscaping, obviously drug dealing in the unlit areas of lots, better hope you get home before 7p to get a spot close to your building, the surrounding homeowners are just as fed up at looking at this eyesore, and if you work late/nights or like to sleep in, forget it. There's a new worker yelling, construction or industrial noise every morning. STAY AWAY! Can't wait for lease to be up!
I have lived here for over 15 years; I am happy to see the changes that are happening. Though there has been much said about the trees, the new landscape and benches in my area look nice. I have never had an issue with maintenance and the office staff is very friendly.
Terrible snow removal. They clear all sidewalks by hand no snow blowers. Takes three days for them to clear sidewalks and you can't walk on most do to snow not shoveled. Takes them three days after a storm to clear a path in driveways and if you have a garage be prepared to clear driveway yourself because poor maintenance plows them in. They no respect for people that have to work and need to get out there cars to do so. Office is out of touch and does not oversee maintenance work or apparently never drives through complex. Don't here you will be sorry
Management has tanked in service since the new owners took over. Laundry facilities are permanently broken and no fix is in sight - was told to go find a laundromat. Maintenance is spotty and several calls have to be made over the course of a week to fix things. The 'On Site' property manager is in only a few days a week. The pool has odd hours of opening and is not worth the extra fee it takes to join it. The 'tennis court' is a cracked stretch of asphalt with weeds growing in it.
I have become quite depressed since new ownership. I am unable to open the blinds or curtains due to the sun beating on the windows and doors because they cut all those beautiful trees down. Not just a few but hundreds. Instead they replaces them with Christmas trees and plants that are already dead along with with rocks that they consider landscaping I suppose. My electric bills have tripled and I fell unsafe when coming home at night even if it is 7pm!!!! I literally run from the car to my door. Maintenance is terrible and nothing gets fixed. Many people have moved and more are moving including myself. I feel like I am living in war torn Afghanistan looks like desert. The most beautiful part of this complex were the beautiful trees. In the winter when it snowed I would sit by the window and watch the snow fall on the trees and how breathtaking it was. Just thinking about it makes me cry. DON'T MOVE HERE!!!!!
When I called the office at 5:25pm for clogged kitchen sink. The lady answering the phone told me to wait till the next day. She told me that mechanics are all off for the day and asked me to fix the problem myself with a plunger. When I told her I don't have plunger and I am not sure how to use it, she laughed at me!!! Really? Rent an apartment to unplug the kitchen sink yourself? Don't bother come to this worst place. People are moving out...
Used to be, but with all the trees cut down it looks barren and the a/c costs soared. Like $350 a month to cool. Looking for a new place.
Terrible since they took over, they changed the property and cut down all the trees to do their own landscaping which never was completed. Property manager is terrible, not friendly at all. I moved here two years ago and once they took over this year i am considering moving.
When I first moved into this apartment complex it was beautiful and picturesque. The layout was interesting, and the landscaping-nature, was awesome to look at. Deer, squirrels, and birds flocked to the surrounding trees and bushes and called them home. Now, the new management company has cut down all of those beautiful trees and bushes. The deer, squirrels, and birds are scattered, and I am unhappy. My apartment in the woods is no longer that. Now it is only a place to live. I will need to move on soon, because I am no longer happy here. However, I will keep the memories of this once welcoming location, I once called my home.
These apartments looks good outside/inside , located in beautiful location with greenery and pure oxygen but few things makes it uncomfortable I.e laundary is just opposite (backside of the buildings) make it far away from apt, bathrooms are small and still in 80's, in kitchen chemney is installed but no pipe internals connected which could take smoke outside (have to exhaust it manually by opening doors/windows) , I would appreciate if above were fixed & could have extended my stay...unfortunately they can't...and I am searching for new apartment right now Current resident!
It's nice and quiet development. Management is good no major problems...there is some cars on the parking lot how are unusable and need to be removed .., Thank you
Very nice looking apartment. Quite neighborhood and you will wake up to deer every morning. This complex well taken care of from the apartment to the grass and pool.
My husband and myself have been living here for eighteen years now and just renewed for another year. We have been very happy living here and we look forward to the new owners and what they are doing for the apts. In a short while that you have taken over I have seen good things already starting to happen. The new trees and shrubs and getting the old ones out of here. I can not wait to see the next great things you will be doing here. This is a beautiful quiet place to live. We're happy to be here.Thank you new management. The Whartons .
