Property Ratings at Sequoia Dawn Apartments
We have lived here for several years but have had to fight off bed bugs and roaches constantly and I keep a clean house and we have no pets. The management is offal due the constant new staff and not knowing English. We are not allowed to water our flowers and many of the growds are now just dirt. Also the dead animals constantly on the grounds.
The town of Springville is quite nice, but small (less than 1000 people). Has a general store/gas station, two Mexican restaurants, one burger joint, a "cowboy" cafe and a millennial/yuppie coffee shop, which hardly anyone goes to (this is cowboy country, don't know why they started this kind of place here). The nearest big town is Porterville, about 20 miles away. If you don't have a car--and since there are a lot of older people live here, many of them don't drive anymopre--there's a daily bus service from Sequoia Dawn apartments to Porterville, but it only runs once a day. The Sequoia Dawn apartment complex is big--40 acres--and the town itself is surrounded by mountains, so there's usually a beautiful view. Unfortunately, the complex itself needs a lot of work (the elevator in the main apartment building, which is three stories high, broke down and wasn't fixed for more than a year) and all of the buildings are in jneed of repair, some more than others. The problem is that the owners do the absolute minimum as far as maintenance is concerned. There's only one maintenance guy for the entire complex, and he does everything from fixing electrical problems to fixing plumbing problems to painting apartments to mowing the lawns, and everything in between. He tries hard, but he's just really overworked and the owners won't 'hire another maintenance guy. It's too bad because the complex really has the potential to be a fantastic place to live; the rents are reasonable, the views are beautiful and the weather is usually very nice. If the owners would just put some money into it things would be so much better for everyone, including them--they would get more people staying there for longer periods of time, but as it is now, there's a pretty high turnover rate because a lot of people move in, stay for a couple of months, get tired of fighting the owners to get things fixed, and move out. Still, there are people who've been there for ten years or more, and are willing to put up with the inconveniences and problems inherent in living in old buildings--the place was built in the early 1900s and used to be a tuberculosis sanitarum--for the pleasures of living in a nice, quiet, peaceful, scenic area. All things considered, it could be a lot nicer, but it could also be a whole lot worse. If you're thinking of moving in, you might want to go there first and talk to people who've lived there for a while.
Surroundings are nice, small town in Sierra Nevada Mountains, but complex is old and in need of repair and maintenance. New owners have gone through several managers, all of whom were terrible, and the one they have now is no improvement. Difficult to get things fixedm owners don't want to spend much money on anything. If they put some money into this place it could be a terrific place to live, but they don't want to and more and more people are leaving because the place is falling apart.
Older building, apartment size is good for one person, but too cramped for two or more. Fixtures older but work OK.
