Property Ratings at Serenade Apartments
I moved into Serenade Apartments in February and was initially very excited! It's in a solid location and fairly cheap for DC. Ever since I moved in, I've been treated like garbage by the company. I have tried to contact the company 30+ times in seven months and have no heard back a single time. There were nicks and scratches all over, and for five months nobody came to pick up the paper work where we detailed all of those scratches. We were advertised with a promotion and they have yet to fulfill it. We got no racks to hang our clothes in the closets, no second key fob, and no second set of keys. There's a room where delivery drivers are supposed to leave packages, but the problem is none of them can get into the room. Instead they leave it out in the open and we've had multiple packages stolen. Although there's a security camera, when we try to reach out to the apartment managers... you guessed it! We were ignored. Multiple things in the apartment are falling apart and I can hear everything my neighbors say. Also you'll hear the firetrucks all day and night. I could not recommend more strongly against living here or at any UIP property.
I like my unit so I give this a 3 star, but there are issues with the property. I think the building only gets cleaned quarterly. If you come by for a tour, know that what you see is what you get (unless they just cleaned, but that's unlikely). I've been here over a year and have only seen cleaners a couple of times. The entryway is usually dirty, as are the stairwells and hallways, and I don't think they have any sort of agreement with cleaners to come with any regularity. Visitors often comment on it, and it's embarrassing. There's a call box for buzzing in guests but it hasn't worked since I moved in spring of 2023, and they can't seem to resolve it. Every time I've asked (every month or two) they said someone is coming "next week". I think someone from UIP has actually started trying to figure this out about a month ago, but it's frustrating that it's taken this long and strange to me this isn't a quick fix. I remain skeptical it will actually be fixed any time soon/at all. Regarding the unit, I do honestly like the space and have gotten used to living on the top floor of a walk-up. That said, when I moved in my dishwasher, microwave and ice maker didn't work. They fixed the dishwasher and microwave quickly but I'm still waiting on that ice maker. Given all this, it was a bit of a shock when the rent increased this year given that I didn't feel like I was getting the value of the apartment I agreed to move into in the first place. All of my complaints feel like pretty basic things you shouldn't have to ask for in a property, being clean and having things that work, so it's a bit frustrating.
