Property Ratings at Sewells Park
SKETCHY management, shootings on a weekly basis, cars being broken into, buildings in disrepair, roaches. Need I say more?
I currently live here and am planning on moving out next month. Don’t know where to begin. Moved into the apartment and first thing I notice, a burned mark in the wood flooring about 2 feet in diameter right in the middle of the living room. Secondly, mold and wood rot in the bathroom about 15x5” right next to the bathtub. This neighborhood is not a safe place for anyone let alone children. There’s constantly police and fire trucks in this neighborhood, like at least 3 times a week. I had a homeless woman who appeared to be a drug addict enter my building and knock on my door asking for money after she saw me enter my apartment. The AC and heater will work some days and won’t others. I’ve been dealing with a horrible German cockroach infestation for a few months now and I’ve tried every way to deal with the bugs to no avail, it must be building wide infestation. The managers actually had pest control come by to the apartments to see if they needed help. They came by and saw the problem then told me they would come back on Monday to take action. The never returned.
They switched three property managers and were not at all organized. The apartments have loud tenants, and the apartments attracts mildew. Don’t do it.
I warn you- this will be long, but it will give you insight as to why you should not rent an apartment here. I broke my lease and paid over $2,000 just to be out of there after only 7 months. I rented this apartment because I needed somewhere to go and quickly. At first it was awesome. The staff was amazing and helped me to get into a unit quickly. My first issue began when they would do random unit checks and give you just a few days notice. If you have a pet they are to be contained during that day -no times were given, just a generic statement that they could potentially enter your apartment without you being present. My second issue would be maintenance. I had maintenance in my apartment without my knowledge and was told, by the maintenance man himself (Chris) that he stayed in my apartment and played with my dog a little because she wasn't kenneled. She would have been had I known the repair was going to be done. Not sure how it's ok for someone to stay in your apartment without your notification or even be in there at all. It also made me feel incredibly unsafe in my unit, I don't know what I had out that day, or what he could have potentially gone through without my being present. It was just incredibly unsettling. They also used KILZ paint to paint over water damage/mold staining in my unit and did NOTHING to fix the issue. The painted without my knowledge, while my dog was in the unit and didn't open a window to alleviate some of the fumes, which were ridiculously strong. Inconsiderate and unconcerned for you and your pet/family's health - bottom line. My final issue was with the woman at the front desk. The one who was so incredibly nice and helpful to me when I first moved in turned into a completely different person when I went in to discuss breaking my lease. Not only was she short tempered and snappy but she also argued with me over if I even had mold in my apartment while throwing me dirty looks the entire time. She was also rude to a man who was there moving out with his broken lease as well. She was so awful that I emailed management regarding my run in with her. All in all if you can afford to look somewhere else DO THAT. DO NOT RENT HERE, I promise you I was not the only tenant who moved out in the short 7 months that I stayed there.
I never had any trouble out of these apartments. It's nearby anything you could ever need, Kroger, Farm Fresh, Harris Teeter, ODU, Ocean View, everything. My neighbors were always quiet. Only issue was parking but it wasn't a horrible situation. I loved the hard wood floors and that the apartment came with a microwave. There were roaches when I first moved in but the complex was diligent about coming to spray the entire building periodically. I recommend staying here. Perfect size for one person.
We stayed here all of 8 months. We paid to get out of our lease, and it was the best decision ever. The management team in the office does not look out for you at all. In fact, their lack of management forced me to call the management group and report them several times. The office got upset that they continued to get into trouble because I had no choice but to call their bosses over their lack of care for tenants. They are cheap, loud, and full of crime. I would not recommend this place to anyone.
I just moved in August 1, and have loved it since day one. It is the perfect place to live if it's just a couple starting out, or someone alone. It is close to many grocery stores, many restaurants, and great shopping experiences! The management is great!! They are very attentive, and if anything is wrong, they fix it as soon as they can! It has a laundry facility onsite, and it is great and always kept clean. The current residents are all so nice!! It's the perfect place to live!
I have been living here for 10 months . I haven't had any bugs which is wonderful. The parking spaces were a trouble but they have built plenty to where I never have to worry about parking. The only issue I have is the size. I am pregnant and I want a spacious place to live. If it was just me alone it would be okay but its not . I would definitely recommend this place if you have a low budget or in the military .
These apartments are horrible ! The renovation was a cheap one because there are holes and cracks in the floor that go to the wall where water bugs and roaches just come in. No matter how many times you spray the bugs just keep coming. Also the parking is horrible if you have a late job you can forget about parking close to your building.
Pros: A five minute drive to Naval Station Norfolk, has a microwave and central heating and air, and an alarm system that doesn't work. Good for a starter apartment, if you have fur babies, and/or if you're on a budget. That's about it. Cons: The neighborhood is a bit sketchy. Security is low out here, although the apartment does have security patrol the parking lots at night, so be prepared if your vehicle tires get stabbed. There are no security cameras or gated fencing. Management says they will do one thing, but it never gets done. Walls and floors are paper thin, so if you are looking for peace and quiet, sorry you will not find that here. (p.s. bring earplugs)
