National publications constantly place Pittsburgh near the top of the list for most livable cities in America, and it’s easy to see why. The city has a rich history as an industrial and economic hub, which led to the construction of many grand buildings and public sculptures which still stand today. Downtown in particular is rich with beautifully preserved buildings and lush public parks dating back well over a century, giving the entire community a timeless atmosphere.
Pittsburgh is split into three sections by the rivers passing through the city: Downtown (a.k.a. “The Golden Triangle), the North Side, and the South Side. Each has its fair share of attractions and landmarks: the North Side is home to Acrisure Stadium and PNC Park (making it a perfect area for sports fans), the South Side features big, beautiful greenways and refurbished steel mills, and Downtown is where you’ll find the most variety in dining, nightlife, and entertainment.

Property Ratings at Shalercrest Apartments
I have lived at Shalercrest for 15 years. I love my place and the neighborhood. The woods outside my kitchen window is a pleasure to look at every day. The tree in my front yard is beautiful. The wildlife and birds are a pleasure to see and hear daily. The maintenance crew is wonderful and always there in a hurry for plumbing or maintenance problems.Plus they take very good care of the whole community and landscape. The neighbors are the nicest people and very caring about the neighborhood. I hope to be here for a long time.
The title of the review speaks for itself. My apartment is cozy, first and foremost. Even though there's a draft through the old single-paned windows and a door that was hung a bit crooked, it's still homey. With ceiling fans and tan-painted walls, the housing association that chose the fixtures knew what they were doing. My home is a part of one of Pittsburgh's few remaining housing cooperatives built in the 1940s. Residents can either rent their apartments, or own a share of the co-op. It's an interesting dynamic that allows us so many benefits: a 24-hour maintenance crew (which worked wonderfully during record-breaking low temps in December 2014 that caused my pipes to freeze 3x in one week), a small front yard, my own front door, and great, quiet neighbors. We're so close to the city (6 miles), but in the morning, when I walk to the bus stop, I hear crickets and birds chirping and run into the occasional rabbit and deer - it's like you're in the country! It's a beautiful neighborhood, and though I'd like to own my own home, it's great for now.
This apartment in which I currently reside, is by far, one of the best places I have ever rented. It truly feels like home. I live currently with my sister, and I rented an apartment before once in Tucson, AZ with her as well. I have also rented other places throughout Tucson and also Pittsburgh after I moved to Pennsylvania. This place by far in Shaler, PA is the best. I have a two bedroom, townhouse style apartment, all wood floors, newly renovated. There are brand new double-paned windows and a separation between the bedrooms upstairs and the communal rooms downstairs. We have a wonderful array of cabinet space in the kitchen, as well as a nook for a small dining area and brand new appliances. Pennsylvania, particularly in the older homes and apartments is not widely known for closet space. However, in both the bedrooms and the kitchen, there is more than enough closet space and storage. I think what I also very much appreciate about this place is that is was painted a beautiful pale taupe color. It's warm and inviting and makes the place feel like a home and not a sterile apartment space. For people who have pets and children, this is the ideal location also. About ten minutes from downtown and anything you could want to do in the city, it is far enough away to feel like the suburbs and is surrounded by numerous parking lots and great park space with playgrounds for small children and tennis and basketball courts for older children and families. I honestly can't really find a lot to critique in this place and I would and will try to stay here for as long as possible, because I absolutely love it.
