Named for the body of water at the center of the neighborhood, Virginia Lake is a Reno community with an emphasis on greenery and a variety of homes.
Virginia Lake is just over 10 minutes from the center of Reno, but it looks more like a community you’d find up north. Towering trees line the streets of the older developments, while newer residential offerings in the southwest corner of the neighborhood have planted hundreds of saplings that bring an upscale feel to the streets.
Outside of the colorful homes and modern apartments is a number of different restaurants and cafes along South Virginia St., the neighborhood’s eastern border. Mediterranean, Mexican, Indian, and more are all on offer, just steps away from a popular movie theater. For those who need an escape from “The Biggest Little City in the World,” the I-80 and I-580 will carry you to Carson City or Crystal Peak Park in just a few minutes.

Property Ratings at Sherwood Forest Apartments
Absolute slumlord. The place is infested with roaches and is never addressed no matter how many times brought forward. Nothing in this apartment works, we’ve put in countless work orders and they fix it just enough to pass as “working” but the washers and dishwashers leak everywhere, the oven makes a strange noise, the shower needs a screwdriver to turn on, maintenance put a giant hole in the bathroom wall when trying to fix a below unit and never came back to repair it. Each unit gets one parking space and the gates do NOT close. Absolute false advertisement. We are trying to leave but Jessica refuses to contact our realtor back for rental verification. This place is a living hell.
They gave us a unit that is still dirty, infested with cockroaches in the bathrooms, kitchen, and inside of the walls, and with mold inside the bathroom. They showed us an updated unit that was very clean and near the front of the complex. We were told that we would get an apartment almost identical, only change being carpet in the living room instead of vinyl flooring. We did not get that. We made a formal complaint and made it clear that they had broken their side of lease. In response (after going into our apartment), Jessica from management said “ Well I only seen one roach….” ONE ROACH IS TOO MANY!!! Not to mention the fact that we put down over 6-7 traps that were still there and had already caught about 4 roaches in a matter of a day. Jessica then told us she would have to talk to her boss to see what to do about the situation. She kept trying to push us into saying that we were abandoning the unit, and surrendering our keys, but we did not let that fly, and told her repeatedly that they had broken the lease, therefore giving us the right to have our rent & deposit back, along with no effect to our rental history. Management tried to create issues at every point. They were saying that we were harassing them and that they were at fear for their personal safety because we were rightfully upset about our unit and continuously asking them to do a final walkthrough. They had us waiting for over 45 minutes to do the walkthrough, and told us that if we didn’t have it done by that day, they would charge us another day on top of the $166 pro-rated rent we were already losing for the last 4 days of June. After finally showing up, Jessica and another office woman looked through the unit, and then she screamed that they were going to call the police on us for recording them in our own apartment that we had paid for. Laughable. Thankfully, we knew our rights, and the laws in the Nevada or else we would have been stuck in a year long lease. We moved in and moved back out in a matter of a few days, making sure to keep documentation of everything and doing everything needed so they wouldn’t be able try to ruin our credit or rental history. Just wish we didn’t have to throw away most of our items we had already put in the apartment, at least $1000-$1,500 worth. Please look elsewhere if you are looking for affordable living!!!!
I lived there for 9 months, and the lady in the office harassed me, wrote me up under false pretenses, and had my car towed twice! We had a really bad black mold problem, and one of the buildings next to us had maggots. Neither the dishwasher or dryer worked, and the stove only had 2 working burners. When the neighbor next to me moved out, it smelt like they had left a rotting corpse locked in there for a solid 3 weeks. Hands down the worst place to rent.
We've had such an amazing experience from day one! The girls in the office were so awesome and helpful and our apartment is perfect! Wish we could give them more then 5stars!!!
one star is even too much for this place i lived there for two years and there was a horrible ROACH problem that they never fixed! i complained since i saw the first oe a few days after moving in. they said they would bomb the building several times but never did!!! when you try and move out they ripe you off with getting your deposit back do not rent from them you will REGRET IT!!!
I lived at sherwood for 5 yrs and I had a non stop bed bug problem that they would never fix. It got to point where I left all my belongings behind.
