Have a blast listing here. Just close enough to all the fun things that happen downtown with out being too close. I get home around 1 am sometimes due to work and I still feel safe in the neighborhood
Lived here for a year and decided to move out after the lease renewal came around, and they were increasing prices. It's just not worth it. Yeah, the highlight of this place is the rooftop, but that's it, and good luck getting a seat by the pool on a busy day because there aren't many. Maintenance is pretty good. Security does nothing for loud neighbors better off handling it yourself. Cleaning is done frequently, but the residents DO NOT pick up after themselves. The "Dog Walk" area on the 6th floor is like a nightmare poop everywhere and smells gross. Management is terrible about responding to emails or picking up the phone, so just go see them in person. The location is infested with homeless right outside and down the street. The parking gate is always broken, so it stays open, and anyone can come in and steal your stuff from the parking lot, which happened to me, and absolutely NOTHING was done for me. The units themselves are nice and have the views and tech things you would expect with up-to-date appliances, but the windows haven't been cleaned my whole time there, so it was pretty dirty. The downstairs office working area is pretty nice if you work from home, and the other patio on the 5th floor is swarmed with nats and other bugs it's hardly ever used. Also upon move out I obviously made sure to clean my unit throughly and still got charged $195 for a “Professional Cleaning” and $215 for a “Professional Paint Restoration” for small nail holes throughout the unit. But hey, at least you live downtown, right?
Great building and staff. The residents do need to do better in keeping the community clean , especially the dog owners. I wish they would have better machines in the gym.
I like almost everything about Shift; it’s convenient to downtown / work, my apartment is well designed, and beautiful, and I like that I’m not charged for parking both my car and motorcycle. The few negatives (and these aren’t really Shifts’ fault) are my upstairs nieghbor runs a bowling alley or perhaps ballet classes, the stains on the common hallway carpets, the smell of dog urine around the outside of the building, and dirty garage / broken glass on elevators.
So far it's really met our expectations. The staff have all been so friendly, grounds are all clean, and we love our apartment space. The area is also so walkable, already have found many new favorite gems around

Decent value. Good location. Solid amenities. Retail on the first floor has an excellent dry cleaners, the boxing club, and a craft beer bar. None of the complaints of the other buildings in the neighborhood.
Lived here 3 years. Love the elevator and garage situation as compared to other buildings! Maintenance and staff also deserve praise! Downside is the area is a little sketch, still but the homelessness has gotten better!

The process to get in is a little tedious but once you’re in, youre treated like family. The amenities are all in the building which makes its very easy to stay inside and save. Things are close by in the neighborhood so you can walk to everything. This may be the best apartment I’ve ever applied to.

It’s a great building but the area has gotten so bad with homeless people everywhere. Something needs to be done.. Also it smells like dog pee EVERYWHERE. The complex should really be more strict on these pet owners in the building.

The apartments are large in terms of square footage but the building needs a lot of repair like the courtyard fire pits, and the garage door to the parking garage.

Thank you for your feedback. We want residences to take pride in their community and the surrounding area. A large part of that involves keeping the grounds clean. Please know the office is always available to take your call and it is our duty to work with you to resolve any issues you may have. We want all residents to have the best possible experience here at Shift.
The amenities are nice and the rooftop pool is great. However, the service is abysmal. The A/C for our floor was out for the better part of 4 months. It has still not been repaired. Maintenance requests are often brushed aside or ignored. You will be told that a service team member will reach out or come by and they won't until you reach out again. The windows barely open so without AC, the apartments turn into ovens reaching temperatures of up to 85. And because the windows don't have screens, if you leave them open your apartment floods with mosquitos and insects. Living here has been a nightmare so far.

So far so good. Front office and maintenance are great. I wish we received 2 parking spots at no extra fee for a 2 bedroom. Amenities are great. Upstairs neighbor stomps loudly so that sucks. But overall this is a great property.

Staff is very friendly and helpful which was very nice moving in. Unfortunately the AC was out for a whole month and the move in elevator reservation wasn't guaranteed.

I've lived in Shift for 2 weeks so far and my overall experience has been good but not perfect. My apartment itself is fantastic. Super clean upon move-in and has all the modern touches. This building has a lot of amenities for the price: 24/7 gym, rooftop pool/spa, grills, rentable recreation room, dog park, free garage parking, and more. Overall this is a good spot if you're seeking to be in downtown San Diego with a short 15-20 minute walk to Petco Park, Gaslamp, and the bay. Now the bad... The area this building is in is very noisy: Lots of sirens, loud cars, and barking dogs. Additionally, being in the Eastern East Village neighborhood, there is a significant homelessness population. Generally they wont bother you but be aware. Also many residents don't follow the rules, particularly no smoking and dogs on a leash. Some of the grills don't work, there has been dog urine in the elevators, I've nearly been bit, just to add a few however I'd still recommend this this place.

Haven’t been to great living here as of lately. AC has been broken for over a month and keep getting the run around of when it’s going to get fixed. There is NEVER any guest parking available & there’s always dog pee everywhere. The 6th floor smells so bad all the time.

I would like to see just some general maintenance in common areas and building up keep such as monitors in mail room and elevators not working, no window washing in the past year, flies at the main entrance. Would also be great if there was a system or process to allow approved guest to resident floors.

Staff has been helpful, maintenance was always done in a timely manner, and close to everything walking or driving. Only downside is parking for guests is already hard in downtown, making the guest parking valet makes it even harder to find parking.

Thank you for your kind comments. The Boxing Club recently ended their contract with the Valet company so we will be restoring some of the Guest Parking tandem parking spaces. Further communication will be sent out to the community.
The apartments are nice and the community is good, minus some outliers. It would be an amazing place live if only the management, and security, would actually enforce the common area rules. Just sending out “friendly reminders” is obviously not working.

Being home is like being on a permanent vacation. It’s quiet and safe. It’s strange to not have lights in the bedroom but the natural lighting in the days makes up for it.

Love living here! Everyone is super nice and helpful. My one complaint is the parking. A couple of our already few guest parking spots are now being used for boxing club valet. This is extremely inconvenient and unreasonable. It’s already hard enough for guests to find parking.

The apartments themselves are amazing but it feels like amenities are lackluster and building is poorly kept up. There needs to be more attention to the hallways as people don’t pick up after their pets.

So far, I am extremely happy with the move in process and how smooth everything was. Moving from out of state was a bit odd and it took a while to get everything sorted and finalized, it was seamless from lease signing on

Super easy move it, love the place already! Shift apartments helped answer all of questions and never once let us down! Not to mention they helped guide us through our move into downtown San Diego letting us know how to get around and where are the top places to go! Out of all the apartments shift was the best one and we are proud to live here
