Property Ratings at Short Hills Gardens
STAY AWAY!!! Things you will need or experience while staying in these apartments. Lived here for two years and this is all true, no exaggeration. 1) You will need several electric heaters and you'll receive a big electric bills during winter time, heat never goes above 65 2) Several floor lamps, there is no light in living room and all bulbs are the cheapest you may find at dollar tree. All the appliances are the cheapest, everything will start breaking apart after one year of use. 3) You will need mice traps and bugs spray, there are several holes next to heating pipes and you'll never be able close them and stop mice coming from basement, I tried to close them several time, they always find way to come inside and explore. I'm extremely clean person, I never leave food outside and always vacuum in the evening but nothing really works and building manager doesn’t care. 4) Good luck with repairs, either it will take forever or it will never happen unless water or gas is leaking something which may cost management otherwise it will never get fixed until you move out. 5) Property manager is the worst, she will give you a smile but she'll never listen. When I complained about the living conditions She said "I hear you but we have instructions from the higher management and I want to keep my job" Basically she said DON'T ASK!!! 6) On the website it says "no pets" but many people have dogs and cats and if you happen to live next to someone with dog get ready to listen to dog all day. Talking about animals, please watch out for raccoons, skunks and some 20 cats which live on the property and say HI to raccoons when you comeback after dark. Be careful when you get out of your car, they can attack and we all know there is no cure for rabies. 7) You'll hear your neighbor day and night even when they'll be talking normal 8) Rent will increase more than 100-150 dollars a month every year without any extra benefits 7) You will also smell cigarettes either from outside or next door 9) You will get one parking spot and if get visitors there will be no parking, specially overnight parking 10) Lawn mower will be making loud noise 4-6 hours day and at least 4-6 times in a month 12) If you are plaining to rent a townhouse please don't put anything valuable in the basement because it will be flooded at least once a year. You may get some money back from insurance but will never get your stuff back.
From the time I moved in April 2021 management and supers have been great. I love my apartment it’s an older structure and obviously things will happen out of managements control but they are on it immediately when I call. The laundry facilities are nice haven’t used them yet. Heat and hot water is included in rent. I know the regulations as to what temperature of heat management is to supply and I purchased a space heater because it’s not warm enough for me and that is what your supposed to do. Overall great community very quiet. Assigned parking with my unit. Happy with it and the area is great nice eateries just a block away peaceful just the way I love it ?? I have not seen any mice or roaches in my unit this far. I highly recommend and I am a property manager so if I think it’s good it must be good and I’m very particular. ??
The place was extremely dirty when I moved in, appliences are old and parking is a big problem here. My first parking spot was a 7 min walk from my apartment. Management was misleading in regards to parking and they promised a free garage before I rented. After I signed the contract they backed out and said I would have to pay a monthly fee. My parking space was moved a bit closer to my apartment but many new spaces have opened up right next to my place but they give that spot to new residents (I am already paying so why bother fixing my problem, right?) This place is extremely mismanaged.
Very old & poorly maintained. Dirty apartment, appliances, & laundry room. Raccoon family living on complex. Insufficient heat. Aggressive, unfriendly & unhelpful maintenance staff. Paper thin walls & creaky crooked floors. Can hear all neighbors having conversations even at low volume. Poor experience here & would not move back.
This is a decent apartment with a good area. The proximity to schools and downtown is certainly a plus..
Pros – 1. The location is great. It is located in the Millburn School district which is known for the best schools in New Jersey. Following landmarks are close by – a. Millburn High School - Right opposite. (can walk to School even in winter) b. Millburn downtown/Taylor Park – 0.4 Miles c. Millburn Train Station – 0.8 Miles (Direct Train to NYC – 50 mins) d. Short Hills Train Station – 0.6 Miles e. Shop Rite/Trader Joes/Wallgreens/CVS/USPS/Staples/Home Depot/BestBuy – 1-3 Miles f. Turtle Back Zoo – 4.3 Miles g. St. Barnabas Hospital – 3.5 Miles 2. Truly cosmopolitan and peaceful community – Since most people live here for convenience of schools, it is a really cosmopolitan community and a very peaceful one. 3. Heat, Hot water is included and flooring is wooden. 4. The maintenance staff is helpful and usually responds quickly. Cons – 1. It is an old apartment and not very well maintained. The doors make noise and the heat is not sufficient and the drainage systems do choke at times. 2. Visitor parking is not sufficient and you may not always get an assigned parking lot near your home. 3. The management is not always friendly and sometimes it takes time to get small things done. 4. The laundry is not well maintained. 5. Considering the amenities and the quality, the apartment is certainly overpriced.
