Property Ratings at Siler Yard
I have lived here for over a year and have seen several property managers come and go (I believe 3 so far). This hasn’t made a reliable environment to address infrastructure, neighbor, and safety concerns. The current property manager has made living here much more challenging than needed. From smaller things like how they were never introduced as the new property manager, & how they avoid to identify themselves or sign their name on communications (comes off as distancing to avoid accountability), to more serious issues like not notifying me about the 10% rent raise before I went through the recertification process to renew my lease, to the absence of timely & accurate communication when issues are brought up (if they address them at all). One of the most disturbing issues is how we’ve had so many inspections over the year, making it feel less like a home/private residence and more like a prying experiment that we didn’t agree to. There’s been total disregard in giving proper notice about the date/time when inspectors and contractors were to enter our apartments to do unspecified “repairs” or “inspections”, when sometimes they've come just to see what I've set my heat or AC temperature at. The only “notice” we get is a vague mention of the week they might come by during business hours, which often changes. There is no proactive communication or transparency. I’ve had the manager open the door without my consent while I was busy working in my apartment! It was a creepy violation; inconsiderate of the “live/work” space Siler Yards purports to be - to say it lightly. I understand that there are challenges to this kind of project, but there are much more respectful & kind ways of navigating these issues. A little effort and coordination goes a long way. It is as though because this is one of the rare “affordable” rental housing options in Santa Fe's desperate and dire housing market, management feels like they can act so flippantly and entitled; and like tenants don't have the right to have standards. Consider hiring/paying/resourcing folks well, and people who aren’t reluctant to work with communities with diverse needs, and who can address conflict, and communicate with empathy..etc. Hire enough people to adequately meet the community needs. The turnover speaks volumes. Seriously, where are tenants supposed to go if management doesn’t even care about fostering a safe healthy living environment, and even violates contract agreements themselves??
The inspections are creepy to an uncomfortable point.Nearly weekly inspections inside the apartments while they have let the outside of the apartments disintegrate to levels like the projects of Chicago. The entire back parking lots is sunken in and construction fences are all over the property. The grass is dead after one year. The promise of a makers studio for artists is still a vacant dirt lot riddled with needles and drug paraphernalia. The management is more interested in making all the tenants miserable over making the place livable.Inspections for all of us but they still don’t have the parking lot paved and the grass is completely dead.Everyone is wondering when this place will be what they promised us it would be.Seems like they just wanted to get the funding to build it and now they’re done.
