Five Points South wraps around the University of Alabama at Birmingham with the UAB Campus Green sitting in the heart of the neighborhood. The south end of the neighborhood contains the Vulcan Park and Museum and the Vulcan Walking Trail, while the north end contains Railroad Park Foundation and Regions Field. Five Points South is a historic district that was founded in 1893. It is considered the city’s food hub and is home to top restaurants like Bottega and Highlands Bar and Grill – winner of the James Beard Award.
As Birmingham’s entertainment district, Five Points South provides more than historic architecture, great food, and an energetic student vibe. You’ll also discover a variety of shops, coffee houses, the Abroms-Engel Institute for the Visual Arts, and a variety of festivals and events. Five Points South is very walkable and students often walk to and from class. Be sure to stop by the Storyteller fountain, created by local artist Frank Fleming.

Property Ratings at Silver Oak
I went by the office to view an apartment; I didn't have an appointment and they helped me out anyways. First impression was great, the renovations look just like the pictures, which is always nice. I've lived here about 4 months now and haven't had any issues with finding a parking spot or noisy neighbors or anything like that. 2 weeks after moving in my bedroom fan stopped working. I called the office and they said they'd send someone right out to take a look at it. They had to order me a new remote, which took a few days, but as soon as it came in they dropped it in my apartment while I was at work. Overall, I'm enjoying it quite a bit. Would reccomend it to any friends looking for a place to live.
I moved in here as a first year student to attend grad school at UAB. At first, the place is seemed like enough. I am in a two bedroom 1-1/2 bath. what this means is that there are a jack and jill toilet with a shower in between. Not bad right? Wrong. There is no ventilation in the shower so that you have to have one or both doors open to the bathroom to minimize steam damage to the celling, but regardless of how much you try the popcorn celling will always crumble a bit and you will be stuck with an ugly celling, pray for no mold. That is just the first of the plumbing issues I have come across in the first six months of living here. The sink in the kitchen leaks, and when we call them to bring out maintenance, no one returns our calls and it takes 3-7 tries to get someone on the phone. And when they do come by the next month we are having the same problem. The WORST of my experience is my toilet. It does not flush. It stops flushing every 1- 2 month. I call, they do not reply, I call again, still no reply. And because this is not an "emergency", they put it off as long as possible. Last time they sent a person in he snaked the toilet. Said he was done and didn't even flush the thing to see if it was working! So I tell them to call a plumber. Plumber arrives, needs to be given the keys to the apartment, which they said they would supply. No one is at the office and they will not answer their phone. Needless to say ANY maintenance request you ask for will take at least 1-3 weeks. If it is plumbing expect to have that problem for several weeks. THEY NEVER ANSWER YOUR CALLS!
