Property Ratings at Sky Gate Apartments
My new home is Awesome, I felt like home the first day. I am having fun building the New Chapter in my life. Thanks to the Mangement Staff for always being good to me and available to support me. Monica
I moved in after being told I was not allowed to physically come and look around because of "covid". I learned why I wasnt allowed to come real fast, this place is a dump. For the absurd amount of rent charged it you would think it was a palace. I've lived here 6 months now and the pool has never been open. The carpets look like they havent been changed since the building was built it 1972, they are filthy and look terrible and smell. I have had to avoid the stair well near my apartment more than once because dirtbag tenants with dogs allow them to poop in there rather than take them out to the dog area. Nearly every hall reeks of weed constantly. The elevators have not both worked since about 2 weeks after I moved in, they are under "modernization". Their idea of modernization was taking the elevator out of service for 2 months and putting a dirty piece of carpet down over the crappy looking tile and changing the call button outside. I expected an entire new elevator for how long it was down, but no such luck. On the plus side, maintenance will come to repair stuff quickly if you call them. Ive had a couple minor issues and its not taken them long to come in and fix them, the maintenance guy whos been here is really nice and is happy to do the work. This is the only reason this place is getting 2 stars instead of 2. My apartment is warm and doesnt leak and has nice new carpet. Its not bad, but soon as my lease is up Im running.
While living here I didn’t have many complaints. I will say if you need things done it’s best to call otherwise emails will go unreturned at times, which for me it wasn’t always easiest to call due to my work schedule. Staff was always kind and polite. The reason I am giving 2 stars is due to what happened after i moved out in march. My final rent was taken from my security deposit which i was grateful for, however they then turned around and tried to charge me for carpet that was torn when I moved in? $600 I might add. they tried blaming my dog who i did not even have at move in. I was having consistent communication with them regarding it to sort it out. They said they have photos of move outs, so i asked for them to check the previous tenant if that’s the case to see that I did not do that. To me it seems like they are charging people and not fixing it. I’m curious to know if it’s even fixed now. Ever since I asked for them to check the last tenants records I haven’t been able to reach the office manager since. I refuse to pay the $600 though as I did not cause that damage.
I recently started renting here at Sky Gate Apts. I have never felt so at home. The Office staff has been so helpful with my move in and application process. They are very kind, caring and most of all professional. I was very nervous about moving right now with what is happening in the world today, but the Office staff was able my mind and and make me feel right at home. If you are planning on moving then I recommend moving here. My apartment is beautiful and I am so happy with my decision to move here. :)
Stacy and all the other staff are quick to help maintain a very peaceful and comfortable atmosphere. The other tenants are very friendly and helpful. I can’t say enough great things about the staff here, especially Stacy
Kim is amazing and always working hard to get you to where you wanna be! Kim is always smiling and works hard! When you come to Sky Gate Apartments make sure you ask for KIM!
Stacey and Ryan are amazing in the office. Always greeting you with a smile and always willing to listen. It is a safe place to live. We love living here as it is the quietest apartment living we have had and our view is amazing. Having the gym and pool on site is also great. Yes, there is things that brake and may go wrong, but that is life all the way around. The staff how ever are quick to note it and work on getting it corrected as quick as possible. In the short amount of time we have been here. We have seen numerous days of improvements and upgrades being done. Looking forward to the future here and Thank you to the staff at Sky Gate Apartments!
The Workers In The Office Are Kind. They Work Well With You. The Apartments Are In A Nice Area, Close To The Mall And Restaurants. Rent Isn’t A Bad Price At All. The Apartment Space Is Nice.
Staff is trash, very unprofessional. Not qualified to work, seems like they picked them off the street. Specially management. Forget about it if you need maintenance work done, your lease would be over before you get maintance to come in. Very unsafe. Someone got murdered on the grounds about a year ago. It was on Fox News. Manager got arrested for stealing money orders. Smell of trash and weed everywhere. No communication from staff whatsoever. They will walk in to your apartment without permission. This apartment community needs to be shut down immediately
I called sky gate to Inquire about an apartment I spoke with Stacy she was so helpful I had a lot of concerns and she reassured me that everything will be OK I’ve had a very bad experience where I’m at now which I’m not going to enclose where that’s at but I told Stacy about the problem and she made me feel better she was so understanding caring and compassionate you can tell she really loves her job I would be happy to live At sky gate. I wish there was more managers like her an apartment complexes because then you can call at home I plan on going there tomorrow to look at the apartments and hopefully meet Stacy in person I had a great experience I was very satisfied thank you sky gate Sincerely Shelly Lane
I moved into Sky Gate about a month ago. Both Misty and Stacey were absolutely fabulous in helping me get settled into my apartment. They made sure that the unit was in move-in condition and any necessary repairs were done in a very timely manner. I can see improvements in the property (exterior) on a regular basis, not only were security gates installed, but the parking lot in front has necessary repairs done. The maintenance crew tries to keep the property clean, trash picked up, etc., but without tenants cooperation, i.e. throwing trash on the ground, spilling liquids in the elevator..... it makes it difficult. I would recommend this complex to my friends without hesitation.
I love my apartment! The staff is great, the tenants are great! I've had nothing but a good experience here, maintenance is prompt, office staff are professional, building is well maintained.
Ms.Waters is wonderful she really went over and above to help my Fiance' and myself we are relocating to Detroit due to a job transfer she got back with us in a timely matter she was very professional, very nice, she has excellent customer service skills, she is one of the main reasons that we decided to move to sky gate because of the great service she offered us, she's an awesome young lady I hope that the management company recognize that she's truly a asset, It is hard to find this type of customer service now days once again thank you Ms. Waters for all your hard work, we look forward to working with you as new tenants at sky gate apartments also the other young lady working in the office was very friendly as well.
Maintenance did a random apartment check but failed to notify us in any way. They left the door unlocked so that when my girlfriend came home she thought there was an intruder in three apartment. I left work and searched the apartment only to find out it was the staff. Very incompetent staff can't even lock a door.
This place is awful. My niece moved in and we are counting the days until the lease is over. The manager they had employed there stole money orders and didn't mark rent paid in the books and it's been several months, still receiving eviction notices. She has NEVER been late. Every time we contact management, they claim it is taken care of and yet this month, I paid her rent, which they claimed went to those "late fees" and now she has a 7 day eviction. The previous manager is in prison for over a half million dollar theft yet they still aren't rectifying the problem. I have been trying to contact the owners, because clearly management is untrustworthy, yet no one has the number.... right. I am taking them to court now, with the proof of all payments (thank God my niece saved them). RUN RUN RUN
Not a great place to live, while the apartments themselves are not bad, had quite a few issues while here. Front door often ended up broken. Ran out of hot water very frequently. Staff is very hard to get ahold of and will not return phone calls. Hallways are dim and always smell like marijuana (smells also leak into apartment). I had to evacuate the apartment three times in the last month I lived there due to small fires in other apartments and or the laundry room. Cops were also in the parking lot 2-3 times a week. They also waited until the very last minute to give any sort of report about the return of your security deposit
I am currently staying here at Skygate it is an ok place to live but I wouldn't advise anyone to move here the doors are always broke elevators are old and damaged the rent is to much they barely clean the pool if you're late on rent they have u pay a $75 late fee and they might even make u pay a $150.00 court fee the walls are paper thin so you hear everything the hall ways stink u don't control your own heat so your apartment could be super duper hot and there's no way u can turn it down the building is old and needs much repairs
I would not recommend nor endorse this property. The staff is very unprofessional as they do not operate with integrity. I have been calling the property over the pass 2 month regarding the return of my security deposit. No one answers the phone during office hours or return calls. I finally receive a check for $64 with no explanation for the charges. During my lease, maintenance did not respond to service request. The lock on the main entrance door remained broken for 9 months awaiting for a bid for repairs...Total strangers could access the building. The grounds of the property were not clean and maintained. It may my affordable...but you won't get anything more than shelter!
This is the cheapest complex around, so it's affordable. However, the hallways always reek, trash always around the building, stairways & elevators; You may or may not get quiet neighbors; Maintenance takes their time on work orders; office admins are all women & they can be snobby, although pleasant during initial move-in process; Parking is horrible; Police always posted nearby, people always pulled over @ entrance... I'm at the end of my lease & now they are putting key fobs on the doors & redid all the potholes in the parking lots... The pool is pretty cool & weight room is decent for the price. Mostly friendly residents.
Pure TRASH. The unit is ok but the leasing office is trash, security doors can be broken into by anyone, NO COMMUNICATION, will take you to court over .50cents, and take 10 days to respond to a maintenance request. When they do respond, the guy will curse you out for making him leave his house in Southfield to drive all the way out to help you. They have bugs and it takes them 2 months to exterminate your unit. The only good thing about them is their pool. If you are looking for something to call "home" look everywhere but here. Don't waste your money. You get what you pay for and its not even worth the cheap rent. I refuse to release in this trash dump. Trashiest place ever and it smell like old carpet and dogs.
my nephew has lived at hunters west skygate or whatever you want to call this getto in westland has been nasty for years people banging on your door in middle of night not a secure building at all ! f you don't have a fob to get in don't worry someone will let you in no problem. maint. takes forever to get things fixed and then try to blame you for things that have just wore out. please let march get here one of the reviews I have read was right on the mark saying cops are all ways in building or in parking lot not the place to be!!!!!!!
This is the place to be mainly because of what I like to call, its centrally located. Everything you need is in walking distance. I have a mall, retail stores, pharmacy, convenient stores, you name it and I've got it. The building itself has been around since 1972 and is holding up pretty good. I love the fact that the walls are very thick. In other apartments you could hear everything that your neighbor is saying or doing. Not here. I also have a gym, free wi-fi, and vending machines, yes vending machines. Did I mention laundry as well. The pool is year round which is also a plus. In short, this is a place I'm glad to call Skygate home.
The people at the office are nice and helpful, they have an online platform where you have the option of paying your rent online. They have a gym and a nice pool. i rate it an average because i don't feel safe living there, there's always cops and the fire department at least twice a week.
I went to check them out. staff was friendly. talked with them for awhile. stopped in the next day and asked what all i needed to come back with. they told me $40.00 for the application fee. i said on line is stated it was only $35.00. she said to me that was a misprint. so i came back with a money order for $40.00. she then asked me where was the money order for the admin fee? "I asked what admin fee? i was just here 20 minutes ago and asked what I needed to bring to apply." she said if you get approved there is a $75.00 non-refundable Admin fee. I asked if "I could bring that back if i get approved?" she said no. so i asked for more paper work to see what other fees there were. they advertise $660.00 for a "high end freshly remodeled" 1 bedroom apartment. but there is also extra monthly fees that are not included with the rent. this add states free gas and water. but the contract states a $20.00 monthly water and trash removal fee. way to much false advertisement for me to even fill out an application. BATE WITH FALSE ADVERTISEMENT AND SWITCH THINGS AROUND ONCE YOU ARE IN THE DOOR.
My fiance and I think the rent is a fair price, it's quiet and it's located near shopping. The pool is nice, too.
Always dirty. Smells easily leak into apartments, so my apartment constantly smells like weed. Loud parking lot noise. Front door doesn't work well and side entrances are either locked or propped open which doesn't feel safe. Management is not nice and doesn't return phone calls. Lived here for a year and I can't wait to move out!
This apartment complex is dirty and completely unsanitary. The building is not kept up and it takes the maintanence guys forever to fix something. Cannot wait for my lease to end.
I am very pleasantly surprised with my apartment. I chose Sky Gate apartments because it is one of the cheapest complexes in the area. I didn't expect much. Even when I went on my first tour, I was hesitant to sign my lease. Since I've moved in, my neighbors have proven time and time again to be kind, respectful people who always come grab the door if you need a hand. The building is more or less silent, the people are quiet and the building is concrete so you can't even hear footsteps. I love it here and I recommend this place to anyone who wants an inexpensive quiet place to live.
I love living in the Skygate Apartment in Westland,MI. Friendly staff, great neighbors. Ive never lived in apartments as quiet as these. My boyfriend and I have always wanted to move out of moms basement and after a year to save up the money to be able to move out was worth it. We have had no troubles here. The rent is reasonable, seeing as we are both in school and working full time jobs. But we would like more time together as well. Rent for life would help take the stress off both of us.
I like it there and wouldn't have moved if my son could have gone to his school. The office staff was great and maintenance was always on the ball. I liked this place and liked the special events they held for us.
move in date of aug 15 but wasn't moving in until 22nd so on 22nd went to office to get key for entry doors so we could move into apt. drove 182 miles to help daughter move in and bring her belongings and was told key wasn't ready yet and come back should be done by 5. Shawna was very cold and unsympathetic so we walked out and luckily entrance door at end of building was broke go figure so we were able to move her in so I could drive 182 miles back home in time for work. also moving elevator broke so carried everything up 3 flights of stairs wouldn't of made it if on the 9th floor
if you enjoy paying entirely too much for broken laundry facilities, broken elevators, and excessive parking lot noise, you have found your home disgusting home
know a friend renting nice apartment excellent value for an excellent price
Still slowly moving in my apartment from a house. So far the people I have met are very kind. My daughter loves the fact that she can swim from late morning until late evening. And they have a lot of nice events for the residents. People are wishing though, that the tread mills get fixed. I live right next to the stair well. There must be something they can do about the slamming of the doors. Other than that, they are quite quiet in nature.
