Living in Old Southwest Reno takes residents back to the early days of the Nevada city, back when pioneers roamed the streets and built homes any way they desired. Locals love the Old Southwest area for its status as one of the oldest neighborhoods in Reno. Close to downtown Reno and to restaurants, bars and schools, many Reno residents consider the area one of the most desirable parts of town.
Unlike the newer developments, Old Southwest homes resemble homes from the past, in many different styles. People can walk down the block and see both a mansion and a cottage on the same street. The uniqueness and old-fashioned nature of Old Southwest and its outer streets pique the interest of those who travel to Reno looking for a family neighborhood close to all of Reno’s attractions.

Property Ratings at Ascent on Steamboat
We move in in December. Sarah and Alex have been amazing. It’s my first time living in Reno and this has been a wonderful experience. They accept dogs, and provide doggy bags and treats in the office. When we have any issues with spiders or the AC they put in an order and got it done the same week or even day. They communicate well to the community through emails and notes. They really do have amazing communication with us tenants. 10/10 so far from my experience living here.

Lots of hiking areas, beautiful all around! Big soccer field, cozy environment, safe, quiet & peaceful, no theft, no homeless around. Pool is great, stores and schools close by, close to tennis courts, no noise, close to cafe, freeway & gas station not far, lots of nature & beauty:)

We love where we live and absolutely love the view! We have bee here for over a year and the Maintenance guys are very kind, helpful and easy to get a hold of. The office ladies are amazing and very nice. the property is fairly well managed. My only complaint would be the limited parking available.

I've lived here for almost 3 years now. It's quiet, safe and the staff is super helpful and nice. The view alone is worth it to live here. If you're looking for an apartment in reno I highly recommend this one!

I just recently moved out in May after 13 months and I agree that you couldn’t pay me to live here. Dirty dangerous and expensive. It is a LANDLORDS TREATMENT apartment quality. The refurbishments online look nothing like the half-done job inside the frail apartments they lease to people. Property owner has zero interest in resolving the terrible parking (not just the space but the literal bumps, cracks, poles, etc laying out in the street easy to hit) and instead thinks that building a dirty indoor pool would be enough to appease residents and distract them from everything terrible going on here. Then, after moving out, they charged me for everything under the sun, and after paying a per deposit and regular deposit totaling almost $2k, they made me pay out extra on top of clearing me out. All I ever did was put holes in the walls, which they documented as $500, the rest was over the smallest things, my bill was two pages long. Long story short don’t live here if you value your experience and money. If you’re looking for a cheap place, this isn’t it either. If you’re looking for a dirty run down pile of garbage to live in while you get by paycheck to paycheck because of their outrageous pricing and unfavorable returns for said pricing, this is the perfect place for you!

Hi, we're sorry to hear about your experience. We strive to provide a comfortable and enjoyable living environment for all our residents. We understand your concerns and we take them seriously. We had our asphalt repaved this summer, as well as have completed renovations on our indoor pool this year. Majority of our move outs are only charged for basic cleans and basic carpet cleans, any charges aside from those depend on the condition of your apartment at move out. Please reach out to us directly at pm.ascentsteamboat@avenue5apt.com or call us at 1 775-825-8435 so we can discuss your concerns in more detail.
I wouldn't move here again if they paid me. It's dirty expensive and dangerous. Cars and apartments are broken into. The laundry facility is disgusting and expensive. They have all sorts of fees for everything they can think of. On move out they charged me to clean the apartment, but funny thing is when I moved in there was mold on the walls and the carpets were gross. I had to clean before we moved in. This place is so poorly run I would believe any bad stories I hear. We're so happy we moved. For the price there are many other excellent properties in Reno. Any of them are better than this place

They are trying to rebrand as "Ascent on Steamboat", and I have no idea what that means but they definitely were 'ascented' on something when they came up with it. I've been trying to get in touch with the office to get several maintenance requests taken care of, and have been met with silence for WEEKS. Some of these things are major safety concerns - the decks on some of the units look like they are about to fall off, haven't been sanded or painted, and have nails coming out of them! My roommate had his car broken into, and they were so incredibly rude and blamed him for the situation. "You shouldn't keep things visible in your car", "You need to file a police report, we aren't going to do anything about it" etc. The pools have been closed for over a year now, and they finally tore down a bridge on the property that had the literal railing hanging off with nails sticking up that my dog almost stepped on. The pond in the back, which for the last two years has been a lovely spot for the frogs in the spring, was drained when the baby tadpoles were swimming in it, and left as an empty hunk of cement since last year. But hey, they had to get their pet project of repaving the parking lot in. That was super important. My appliances have been failing, the stairs leading up to my unit shake whenever you walk on them, and they've been closing maintenance requests without ever responding to them. But at least the asphalt is fresh. If it weren't for the astounding views, I'd award this place 0 stars, for the worst management team to ever walk this plane. I'm hiring a lawyer and getting out of this disaster of a property. I advise you to look elsewhere, and don't let the scenery fool you, unless you plan on staying in a tent outside the whole time.

They must be posting fake reviews because I can't imagine anyone would enjoy living there. They NEVER EVER answer their phones. The pool is always closed. They don't repair things. And there is a lot of domestic violence. use caution!

I Loved living in these apartments, until someone robbed me inside the property, someone opened my car at night and took everything away. there are no cameras and is not safety, I put the complaint in the office but I did not feel support and are not responsible. They just told me to talk to the police and my insurance, but I don't feel safe in this place.

I absolutely LOVE living in my apartment at Skyline Canyon! I first came across them when looking for a an apartment in Feb. 2019 before relocating from CA to Reno. I loved the property through pictures but it wasn't until April when I first stepped into what would be my new home. Tessa was incredibly engaging and easily welcomed me. She showed my the grounds, gave me background about the area and property. I loved being able to hold the place for three days before finalizing my decision and in the second day I knew. While I was previously a home owner, Skyline Canyon gives me the 100% homey feel. The pet friendly areas, the doggie bins, my friendly neighbors. People take care of their patios and balconies and what I love even more is the way we can personalize our spots. That's something that makes this place unique. I feel safe walking at 0100 with my pup. I love the midnight serenade of frogs. The views are gorgeous. I love being able to relax by my fireplace after work just by a flip of a switch! Give this place a chance and you will be glad you did!

The place looks nice on the outside but the management is terrible and getting anything fixed doesn't happen. Things are fixed cheaply and break. I had maintenance come out 4 times to fix my hot water which lasted less than 10 minutes for the first 6 months there. Finally, the water heater actually broke and they replaced it. Also at the begining I was told the non-refundable deposit that I put down was non-refundable but would go toward damages and needed paint but this did not happen. And then they billed me at the end for a stain that was already there and was documented before moving in. Well I found out about the bill because they sent me to collections because they put in our new address wrong and sent the bill to the wrong place. I called to dispute the charge and they say they only allow disputes for the first 2 weeks then you have to deal with collections. I never received the bill to dispute this and then had to pay collections. Never had anything go to collections in my life!!! Management is horrible and they have a bad attitude as well. The place looks good at first but then you find plenty of things wrong as you stay, couldn't wait to get out of there by the end of the lease.

This place will FOOL you with its pleasant grounds and decent view of the city. It can also be quite peaceful at rare points during the day. In reality it is actually full of people with oversized dogs in undersized apartments. I am barked at constantly, and periodically charged at, when I go up or down my own stairs. I have complained twice to the office and nothing has been done. I am barked at as I walk thru the "peaceful" garden to do my laundry. The "scenic" courtyard is essentially a doggy-toilet mine field not to be walked on. The laundry rooms are filthy and the inside of the washers are coated with pet hair. I was without my air conditioning for a week over the 4th of July holiday in 2014. I was without it this year for a week in mid August. It was 100 degrees in my apartment for all of those 2 weeks. There was ZERO empathy or urgency expressed by the office, or the management group in Los Angeles, whom I appealed to for help. I was told that they are not required by law to provide me with air conditioning...even here in the high desert during the height of summer. My next door neighbors smoke pot and have car parts out on the landing... also brought to the attention of the office and ignored. If you are looking for a partial view of the city...and pleasant grounds to be viewed from your window, but not actually enjoyed.. or you have a large dog that you like to keep cooped-up in a tiny dwelling.. and don't really rely on your a/c during the summer... then this place is for you.

My family has lived here for the past five years. The first apt we had, was a two bedroom and lovely. We downsized and got an un-upgraded unit which fit our budget, at the time. There is definitely variety in what you get and what you pay for. The nicer unit had more noise, and the unit we moved to is beautifully quiet. Gorgeous views of park, canyon, downtown and mountains! Nicest neighbors you are likely to find in an apt. One indoor and two outdoor pools are used by the kids year round. Best sushi in town, just across the street (dangerous!) Generally, a peaceful, pleasant and fortunate find. Not perfect, but better than most!

I would NEVER recommend this to anyone who wants to get sleep through the night. The manager claims there are no rules in this regard and does nothing about it. I can't wait to move out of here.
