Located about 100 miles north of New York City, nestled along the Hudson River, Kingston is one of Upstate New York’s most historic towns. Kingston was once the capital of New York State during colonial times and even houses the largest physical remnants of colonial life in the state. This quaint town offers affordable and upscale apartments and houses for rent. Kingston is best known for its old-fashioned, quirky downtown district, also known as Uptown Kingston or the Stockade District. This city center celebrates Kingston’s roots with historical markers, casual eateries in historic buildings, farmers markets, and cultural festivals. Although this town is very different from its New York City neighborhood with the same name, Kingston is about two hours north from NYC, the perfect distance for a weekend trip.

Property Ratings at Skytop Village Apartments
I agree with all other reviews that it is a very secluded area, conveniently located and priced low but that's about all I agree on. The entire complex is on 1 well for water! The first week we moved in we ran out of water for almost 3 days...thankfully it was in August and we were able to fill buckets at the pool to flush toilets, ETC. The water also regularly goes between smelling like straight chlorine to smelling like sewer and we refused to drink or cook with it. The walls are paper thin and you can hear EVERYTHING your neighbors are doing and smell everything coming from their apartments (good and bad). My small daughter learned the smell of marijuana from our drug addict neighbor. That's not all the drug activity going on in this complex either, I've witnessed numerous drug deals in front of our building and with the Rodeway Inn and other hotel on Route 28 right down the hill there is a lot of criminal activity. Our neighbors were robbed numerous times and while family was house sitting for us over a weekend someone tried to break into our front window. After hearing our dog the person left without gaining entry but the idiot dropped his wallet outside the window! The police were called and he was taken care of. Just when you think things couldn't get worse I'm here to tell you that it does...the paint chips and peels frequently from the walls as the units are just caked with layers and layers of cheap paint. The window panes, door entries and bathrooms grow mold as fast as you can clean it because of the wetness in the area. The kitchen counters are made out of sheet linoleum so if you drip water from the sink and it gets in the poorly sealed countertops you will have ripples underneath making your counters uneven. The doors, windows and appliances are extremely old. They don't shovel or plow in an appropriate timeframe in the winter and we ended up shoveling for our building with neighbors all winter long in order to get to work, they hardly salt to maintain the walkways. Town of Ulster owns the roadway this complex is built around so at least they maintain the roads but Skytop also uses that as an excuse to not do their part of the job. In the summer the pool is great when its actually open! We were here for 2 summers and both times the pool didn't open on time in the spring and there were a lot of days there were no lifeguards available so the pool closed for the day.
My wife and I lived in a two bedroom apartment at Skytop from 2000 to 2007, and, when our finances allowed an upgrade, we chose to stay at Skytop and move into a larger apartment. I've never regretted it. In 2000, we were looking, above all, for a quiet location, and were surprised to find it in an apartment complex. The first two maintenance guys were a little shaky, but Steve has been here for years now, and he's great, both friendly and competent. Skytop is a quiet, friendly little enclave. I give it 5 stars.
I just wanted to take a moment and write a comment about a wonderful Apartment complex i have lived in for over 21 years now. Skytop Village Apartments is just that, a little village, on a dead end street in the woods filled with nature and friendly residents and staff. The landscaping is great, they have a swimming pool for the summer, car ports to protect your car and trash pickup twice a week which is really great. They allow pets, both cats and dogs when most other don't.Plus location is great because its minutes from the stores and eatery's and next to the thruway entrance for easy access. If you have a problem or something needs to be fixed they are there for you day and night and weekends too if the problem is serious. They work with you during tough times if needed and are always a phone call away. They have become family to me and others who have lived here so if your looking for a family and pet friendly place to live i suggest taking a good look at Skytop Village apartments.
The Skytop Village Apartment Complex is an excellent place to live whether you're single and just want your own place or raising a family. It's quiet and clean with a great maintenance crew. The rent is very reasonable and it's conveniently located just outside the city of Kingston. So you really get the best of both worlds. It's pet friendly!! Which is really though to come by without paying a ridiculous amount of money. I would recommend Skytop Village to anyone!
I live here now for 6 months. When I first moved on I was never told that the water was horrible and is treated with chlorine. Apartment is big but kitchen and bathrooms are very old. Laundry room is not very big and people do laundry and forget about it while it sits in washer. Only 1 maintenance guy to handle entire complex. Ice in winter is bad here and not taken care of. They should leave salt by apartment doors so tenants can help with their walkway. Walls are very thin here. Windows are very drafty. Screens with holes on them They paint before you move in but they do not cover holes and paint job is very messy. I do feel for the area this is a better choice than others. Location is quiet and you do get a carport. Pool is nice when it is open. But only open till 6pm, and closes for an hr if lifeguard has to get lunch. Also when lifeguard is sick no one fills in and you only know by walking over and seeing pool isn't open.
Apartments are really what I have been looking for.Spacious, nice, and I love the view.
It is a beautiful place to live, the places are very clean and it is located in a wonderful location. All the people their are so pleasant and nice. With the green grass and the nice tall green trees, it completes the nature look and feel so peaceful.
I'm on a waiting list for a 2-bedroom, 1-1/2 bath townhouse. I've lived there before and have friends there. I want to go back. It's like living in the country without being out in the boonies! I didn't have to get involved with traffic to get to the thruway or go to the mall. I loved having my own carport especially in the winter. It was like having my own house but without having to do the maintenance.
