I’ve been searching for an apartment for a while in this area. When I came to tour here I had the pleasure of meeting Bella. Bella gave me a tour which was very informative and she kindly answered all my questions about the building and surrounding area! I loved the building, and thanks to Bella I have all the information I need!
I toured SoCam recently to look into a new place to live coming up and it was truly great. Bella was an excellent tour guide - very personable and informative. Definitely recommend!

The building is dirty and infested with mice, the hallways always smell like garbage, homeless people sleep in common areas in and around the building.

I’ve rented at a few different places throughout college. As a young professional I decided to “upgrade” and live in downtown. The friends I brought to my apartment all said the same thing I had in the back of my mind, “it’s nice but it isn’t. It’s like an old building w a fresh coat of paint hiding the real thing.” The notice to vacate states the last month is not prorated so I am forced to pay a whole month’s rent and utilities even though I HAVE to be out on the 16th. My new apartment is not available until the 17th and SoCam will not let me pay (on top of the rent I will be paying) and stay for one additional night. The last 2 apartments I’ve lived at worked with me and both let me stay for a prorated fee which I was okay with; SoCam will not allow this. The amenities and location were not worth the rent. I am grateful I had warm running water and a friendly maintenance crew, but the management company and policies spoiled this experience for me. I know the management team are just the middle men and relaying the policies but I hope you guys change some of them for your future residents. I will not recommend SoCam.

I've come in a few times for a tour, but have never felt welcomed. I felt like I was inconveniencing the employees because their faces, attitude, and body language screamed "I hate my job". I remember asking a question about a promotion they were doing and the employee saying, "Say that one more time. What did you say?" and laughed in my face. Humiliating. If I was ridiculed as a prospective tenant, I can't imagine how I'd be treated if I actually lived here. I was really considering living here, but due to the hostile nature of the employees, I've decided against it. Good thing I didn't sign the lease because afterwards, my friends told me all the horror stories they've heard about management here. So glad I dodged that bullet. Trust me, if you're a Rutgers student, listen to your fellow classmates. There are places out there that actually take care of you and take your thoughts and concerns seriously instead of laughing in your face. SoCam290 is not one of them.

When I applied to live here they had a 9 month option but since the new management came in, you’re trapped here for 12 months. They only renovated a few floors of the building so it’s not like everyone is getting the new amenities they promise. There’s a no loitering sign on the building but security doesn’t seem to try to prevent people from doing this and it makes me feel unsafe; especially when I get back from my night classes. They give you about 12 hours notice that you’re getting a roommate so there is really no time to prepare. All I can say is I can’t wait to be out of here.

The first phase of renovations (floors 5-10) was completed last year and the second phase is set to be completed by September 2019. The staff at this property are very friendly! They will always drop what they’re doing to help me with any questions I have but Brea is always going above and beyond to ensure that my questions and concerns are met. I think she takes pride in making sure her residents are happy.

The management and people in the office seem nice unless there's an emergency or a serious matter, then you wouldn't find anyone there to help you or even communicate with you. We tried get a hold with one of the two managers that were suppose to be on call 24/7 in case of emergencies for 4 hours, because of an incident that badly affect our apartment. After all this wait, when they finally answered they were questioning what happened and didn't care if we, the residents, are ok. The maintenance, seeing how bad the situation was and that it was caused by the renovations in the upper floors, suggested for management to get us either a hotel room or another room in the building at lease for the night but they refused. The conditions of the apartment were very unlivable and unhealthy for someone to live in. For the next few days I was trying to get a hold of management and very time I call, none of the managers were there!!! I had to leave work early for 3 days and go to the office to demand answers, and still got none. They didn't do anything for us until 4 days later when we emailed GreyStar, the company that owns Socam 290 and talked to a lawyer showing all the pictures and the videos we had of the aftermath of the incident. Honestly, through this whole process we were treated badly by management. I wouldn't recommend this place to any student or a parent of a student. THIS IS NOT A FRIENDLY COMMUNITY.

Definitely a great student living apartment complex! It’s truly a retreat to live here. It’s walking distance from a lot of things. The staff are extremely helpful & friendly,& the apartments are dope and affordable! I would definitely recommend living here.

New management are liars. Sure they’re dressing the place up. That’s nice. But seriously, don’t bother. They can care less all the care about is money. I’ve been in this building a year now and I seriously wish I would’ve waited to sign my lease. Not even worth my time anymore. Oh yea, listed on this site it says that water is free, AS OF SEPTEMBER 1st IT WILL NOT BE. Read your lease to it’s entierty. Better yet, just don’t sign it.

They are renovating the place, so all of the amenities are brand new. I heard that they have a new management company that is investing good time, service, and employment here. I took a tour and it is very nice and Im looking to sign a lease soon!
