Located about eight miles north of Downtown Seattle, the area of Lake City was once a railroad stop. It was named in 1906 and quickly developed into a suburb of Seattle. During Prohibition, the area was unincorporated. So when Seattle joined Prohibition, Lake City supplied the roadhouses and speakeasies barred from the nearby city. Lake City became a Seattle neighborhood in the mid-1950s. With Lake Washington as the neighborhood’s sparkling gem, residents are rediscovering this northern neighborhood.
Lake City stretches from the lake to roughly 15th Avenue in North Seattle. While the speakeasies are long gone, there are several popular destinations along Lake City Way, including HellBent Brewing Company Elliott Bay Public House & Brewery, Brother Barrel, and 2C Thai. If you are moving to Lake City with a pet, you’ll appreciate Dogwood Play Park, an indoor dog park and bar complete with a treat bar and birthday cakes for pet parties.

Solara is a great place to live, it’s a little haven inside of lake city and the layout of the buildings make it a nice quiet pocket in the middle of a bustling city surrounding. The staff are helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly. Amenities are great, my favorite gym I’ve ever seen in an apartment building. Overall love it here!

Solara is legitimately a hidden gem. The high activity in the area made me hesitant at first but the complex is layed out in such a way that you have to know where to go to get into the courtyard, and even then you still need a key. A Gas station, 2 grocery stores, multiple restaurants and bars, and even a hardware store; are all within a 1 block radius. If you work from home, you would not even need a car to get all of your basic needs. The quality of the gym and amenities cannot be properly conveyed with pictures. That is honestly the biggest and most well stocked gym I've seen that doesn't require a paid membership.

Solara is clean quiet and everything is so accessible. Neighbors are friendly...and what you pay for in Seattle the amenities are above and beyond. Washer dryer dishwasher ice machine gym BBQ pool table movie theater and so close to shopping and bus. This by far is the best apartment I have ever stayed.

The layouts are open and spacious, the location is great, we like having a water boiler for the building instead of an in-unit water heater, and we feel relatively secure with the internal hallways and secure entry. Downsides are the cost, the frequently busted water boiler, lousy expensive parking, and how dangerous the neighborhood is becoming.

Great floor plan, but very noisy building/neighbors, even with a top floor apartment. If you’re sensitive to sound, this older wood-frame building is not for you.
Avoid living here if possible! I had a great experience at Solara until it was recently purchased by Graystar Management Company. They raised my rent by a very large sum (I had been living month-to-month, and would have had to pay an additional $650 per month) with less than two months notice. This increase was despite that fact the facilities were not kept up or repaired routinely. A person was shot through the back door and the bullet holes were unrepaired for months. Also worth noting that the C building has terrible hot water (can't take a hot shower in the middle of the day), and the landscaping leaf blowers make working from home awful at least once per week. Upon move out, I was sent a vague invoice for charges that added up to $891, after subtracting my deposit. When I requested additional details about the charges, the management increased it to $1,991. I had the apartment professionally cleaned upon move out, and was also still charged a hefty cleaning fee. I strongly recommend avoiding this complex.

Solara is a great apartment complex with great features and amenities. The management is also very friendly and helpful.
Cons: 1. Bad neighborhood: there are homeless people everywhere. I was followed once and had to call the security. 2. Worst management: I lived here for a few months and they have changed about 10 management assistants. Don't get me wrong - they are very nice people. But with this frequent change, it causes a lot of trouble. 3. The elevator has been out of service since early Oct. and won't be fixed before December... I live in 5th floor and parked my car in P2 (that is minus 2nd floor). I have to carry all the stuff for 2 months... 4. Stairs are always smelly and dirty 5. I reported an maintenance issue (toilet not working properly) it got fixed after 4 weeks... 6. Very noisy if your apartment is facing Lake City Way even at night Pros: 1. Cheap (relatively) 2. Close to Fred Meyer, bus station 3. Facilities are good (fitness, playing room)
Bad neighborhood, loud, horrid smell and always dirty. How incompetent are you people? I tried 3 times to call and pay my move out fee, to which you told me, on all 3 occasions that you would "call me when you had your system working", but guess what, you never did. Instead you never contacted me by phone or letter, just sent it to collections. Is there some reason that you can't follow up with your customers? Too difficult to pick up the phone and follow through with your promises?
