Property Ratings at Somerset at Trussville
When it was The Springs at Trussville, it was awesome. The management knew us by name, waved, and went out of their way to make sure you were having a good day. The maintenance staff was johnny on the spot when getting to your issues and always had a good attitude. After Somerset bought the complex the new management and staff came in and it has gone downhill. Instead of stopping whomever kept ramming through the gate arm, they just kept fixing it for about 3 months, and then took off the arm. The gates themselves work maybe 75% of the time, but I have seen multiple non-residents just pull in behind residents. I don't like this because it does not give me the safety that I was accustomed to before. There have been more safety concerns since this has taken place. As far as the new management. Young. Inefficient. Inexperienced. Lack the ability to get things done. Maintenance the main reason we are leaving. Since the new company has taken over, it takes FOREVER to get maintenance to do anything. They walk in, gripe about having to work, then tell us they can't do anything about it. It took 4 months(and multiple unreturned phone calls) to have a specific problem fixed. 2 months to have a simple problem fixed. They also recently informed us that if we decided to stay they were increasing our rent an additional $300!! It's not worth it. As far as the apartment itself: It's nice. The non-master bedrooms are not big enough for anything more than a twin size bed. There isn't enough storage space in the kitchen, and definitely not enough counter space. The floor plans say there is a "dining area", but there isn't. We had to sell our kitchen table. Laundry room is nice. I wish the shelving was placed on the opposite wall of the hook ups so you can actually hang your laundry. The train isn't bothersome to me. We have lived here for 2 years, and it hasn't bothered either of us at all. The walls are THIN. My neighbors are NOT loud, but I can hear their conversations and their various "other" activities. I don't recommend this complex. It's a shame, really. We will be renting for the next few years we had originally planned on making this more permanent, but after the management change we are looking elsewhere. Apathetic staff is the fastest way to get rid of good tenants.
The complex was recently acquired by another company and the amenities I believe are relative to luxury apartments have slightly fallen in quality. We pay to be in a gated community and people seem to make a habit of breaking the gate bar and it's yet to be fixed. Safety is still better than a lot of complexes and in the five years I've been here I have not heard of many incidents until this past year. Even still, it has only been a few. They have become very lax on making sure tenants handle their dogs so that they are not disturbing other residents. We like pets, but not hearing them throughout the night. Maintenance used to be very swift at fixing things but not so much anymore. The price we pay goes up every year, yet there are no upgrades to what we currently have. They do the carpet cleaning though. There are no other apartments that are this nice in looks in the area. One of Very few apartments with attached garages and private entries. It has perfect access to shopping and I-59, I-459, and I-20. Its zip code is B'ham but you're pretty much in Trussville. Trussville school system is good. Somerset isn't perfect but still a good option.
The quietest apartment I have ever lived in. There is a train that goes by and it is the most wonderful sound! (Promise you it won't blast you out of your place, just a soft train sound!!)Close to major shopping but tucked away where most people don't even know it is there. Gated and well maintained. Unusual floor plan. Each tenant has their own entrance. Great staff & just great overall experience!!!
The neighborhood is safe and quiet. My husband and I love the easy access to the interstate and the pet accommodations. We live just beside a stream that we can hear from our balcony. The staff is amazing and the grounds are well-kept. They even have a dog park, a gym, a pool and a car wash. The details indoors are also great with granite countertops, high ceilings and crown molding. Truly a great bang for our buck!
