Property Ratings at Somerset Park
Avoid at all costs...and there are lots of extra monthly costs, even additional fees for paying your rent on time. They only care about the money in their pocket. They could care less about people. Lots of turn over in the office. They will be nice and attentive, and even remember your name, right up until you sign that lease and move in. Can't get anyone on the phone or a timely response by phone or email. Snow removal was a joke. Top of cupboards were filthy. Pet friendly which is great, but you hear dogs barking through the walls. They didn't even show up for a final walk through. Worst rental experience I've ever had. I don't recommend and will be giving a negative review everywhere I can.
I am just amazed at the timely attention we get when we put in a maintenance call. Allan and Lincoln are super attentive and quick to fix our issues. Their mannerism and compassion to deliver excellent service is greatly appreciated!
Your monthly payment is going to be at least $100 more than the rent listed on your lease (and watch that "convenience fee" when paying rent through the portal), so budget accordingly. Note the extra $$ does NOT go to maintain the property. Bring your own snow shovel. The ratio of dogs to people here is about 2:1. There's a lot of barking, and poop is everywhere. Renting at Somerset is like experiencing the rudeness of mankind on a multi-sensory level every.single.day. Pot smoke (oh, wait! It's "not allowed"!), barking dogs, putrid odors (like the neighbors' baking edibles), and the vibrating living room floor from the bass stereo below you combine for a daily assault on the senses as you've never before experienced. There's literally nothing on the property to justify the exorbitant rent, and you can find cheaper rent for better properties within 15 minutes of this place.
I had no complaints while living here. Everyone was great and friendly up until we moved out. We had over 600$ in “carpet damages” and they were unresponsive to most of our messages. In meetings, or forgetting to call back. When they finally did respond the message didn’t answer a single one of our questions, and they could not include a single receipt. We did have a dog and a cat, but we made sure to vaccum and shampoo before leaving our place! There were no holes or large stains. I would have happily paid if they could just provide some sort of bill or proof they replaced or cleaned the carpet. Instead we got a threatening email, to take us to court and take the charges to a debt collector if we didn’t pay that day. Save your money!!
Staff are great! Super friendly and helpful. Property manager has been really sweet with the time we’ve been here, everytime I have questions or an issue ( which is rare) she always takes the time to take care of them. Our neighbors are great, really friendly also. It’s quiet even at night we don’t really hear anyone through our walls. I would definitely recommend to anyone looking!
1. When we moved in, we had ants covering our kitchen. It took maintenance 3 separate visits and 2 weeks to finally get rid of them. We did not receive any compensation for rent, even though our kitchen was unusable. 2. Due to their faulty washer, we had a flood in our apartment that ruined a ton of things. It also caused us to be out of our apartment for a week while everything dried. We were not reimbursed for anything, not even rent for the days that we couldn't live there. 4. While maintenance was fixing the washer, they discovered that the lint trap in the dryer was not hooked up, causing a huge fire hazard. 3. When we moved out, we were told that we had to give 60 days notice. We gave our notice, but since they have such a high turnover in the office (literally a new person working every time I went in there), they lost our notice and said that we never gave notice. When we moved out, we were charged over $350 in extra rent because we "didn't give the 60 days notice." The apartment itself was nice and the surrounding area was quiet, but unfortunately the move-out experience has left a terrible impression on me.
The apartments are okay, but expensive for what you get. Now with new ownership not only has my rent increased, they added a "fee" of $50-$75 PER MONTH to cover utilities that used to be part of the rent price. There are nicer places with more amenities for less money.
There are always cars park on drive way even in front of no parking sign. There is never see apartment management step in and maintain quality of environment. Beside rental fee go up 7%~10% with very bad road condition for years.
We lived at Somerset for 4 years, during which we never missed a rent payment, had no complaints against us and paid all dues in a timely fashion. We enjoyed our time living here, until we decided to leave the apartment. When we moved, the complex claimed that due to our pets there was carpet damage in every room. We had two cats, both of which were always well behaved and meticulous on their litter box usage. With our many visitors, none ever commented nor complained of any kind of cat-related odor (of which, they most certainly would due to the pungent nature of cat urine). When confronted on the issue, we refused to pay the dues assessed. We requested the photographic evidence of their claimed UV light damage, which they were unable to provide due to the "poor quality of the camera" and its inability to take a sufficient picture. As a master chemist, I requested information on the color of the UV-illuminated "urine." This request was openly laughed at, and after this request we were threatened with small claims court. Ultimately, the situation was hugely disappointing. It was not worth our time or effort to engage in a court battle with the Eyde company, and we are extremely dissatisfied with their unwillingness to work with us or provide evidence backing their claim. We were dismissed, bullied and pressed into a difficult situation by Kelly Eyde who was extremely unprofessional. Be wary of the fine print, and document more than you think you should when you move in, to avoid similar difficulties. If you have pets, we would strongly suggest the carpet be fully inspected prior to move-in, including pulling the carpet and full UV analysis with pictures.
A great place to live if you don't have a pet, enjoy not getting your security deposit back, have a penchant for small claims court, enjoy additional monthly pet fees, have a fondness for falling asleep to the sound of mice scurrying through your walls, and other non-refundable deposits.
I lived in these apartments for 2 years because I needed a small apartment that took pets. This apartment is not efficient from a utilities standpoint. I was also annoyed because every time I went to their office to get a package, they let you walk into a room with a whole bunch of other packages. It was not a secure system and more than once I did not receive a package that was delivered. The move out process was also convoluted. They send a letter saying they want to do a walkthrough to help you assess your apartment before moveout. However, it is their stated policy not to tell you the results of a scheduled walkthrough unless you call. I also had a bad experience with the manager of the apartments. She doesn't seem to have the customers best interests at heart. On the positive side, the grounds are decent, and they have tennis courts. It is also well lit and seems very safe.
We moved for the location--right off the expressway, but close to everything! The staff is excellent and knows the residents by name (without having to look it up). The community is VERY quiet, VERY safe! My husband and I moved here with our infant to have more room (and safety)--such a great choice! Definitely worth every penny!
1. Poor maintenance, failed to fix a front lock on the building for 4 months 2. kept our security deposit despite the fact there was no damage to the carpeting in the apartment. 3. Scheduled a pre-vacancy visit to assess the apartment, but never came, and never informed us of any problems. If you are not extremely careful about documenting the state of your apartment upon exit, be prepared to pay the price.
We have lived here since last June and have been really enjoying our spacious and very comfortable apartment. The staff is amazing in every way! The fastest maintenance I have ever seen! Amy and Kristin in the office take care of any concerns with high priority and always are great about communication. We love it so much we are planning on signing another lease this June. The location is perfect to get anywhere you need to go as well! Neighbors are quiet and very considerate of how they affect you. We really appreciate that! Highly recommend this property!
The apartment complex is relatively close to everything, which is very nice. It is in a quite area, which is exactly what I was looking for. The office staff is wonderful. Always very helpful and keeps the residents up to date through email and monthly newsletters. The only time I have heard any noise is when people are in the hallways and that is to be expected. I cannot hear my neighbors when they are in their apartments. All of my neighbors are friendly and it's great to have such a variety of young people, families and older residents. I love it here and plan to stay until I eventually buy a house.
I lived here in a 2nd floor apartment and I personally would not recommend it. When I first received a tour through the apartment that we lived in, I asked the property staff if anyone was living in the above unit and was told directly to my face, "no". After moving in I quickly found out that there was someone living in the unit directly above us. This was not only because of the loud heel pounding through the apartment, but also because of the occasional band practice and loud keyboard practicing in a room that must have been used as a recording studio. If you live, work, or go to school in East Lansing then I would definitely recommend living in East Lansing, because of the convenience of grocery stores, restaurants, CATA, and traveling to and from MSU or LCC. While living here we usually had to use the highway in order to go to the grocery store, or the Eastwood Towne Center, which probably requires WAY more fuel consumption than if you were residing in East Lansing.
I have lived several places in East Lansing, Lansing and Holt. I was looking for something a little quieter and a bit less expensive and Somerset is exactly that! Bath doesn't have much to it, but if you drive between 5 and 10 minutes, you can find any of the stores you could need. I haven't had any problems with my apartment, and for the most part my neighbors are great. The only times I can actually hear my neighbors are when they are on their balconies/patios or they are in the hallway. No noise from the surrounding apartments, which is wonderful!
