Property Ratings at Soo Line Building City Apartments
They unfortunately have scaled down on the security. Located within the skyways but lost of parties and multiple incidences where police have had to raid the rooftop. This area of town is unsafe for a building that does not have consistent security. If village green was no longer managing, and someone decided to take building security seriously then I would recommend living here! But at the current time the amenities aren't even safe or useable, especially the rooftop where kids threw rocks off and shut down the light rail.
After looking at over 20 different apartment properties near the U, we found SL to be the best and most ideal for our needs checking off all of our boxes. Right next to the light rail, you can get to the U in 10 minutes. It is conveniently located in downtown and very walk-able to many venues, restaurants and shops. This area of downtown and the underground parking seems a lot safer than many others I have seen. The SL management staff has been terrific to work with and very responsive to our needs in welcoming us to live here. A special thanks to Amanda and Logan! The apartment we are in is very nice and we look forward to using the nice amenities that SL has to offer specially the roof top pool and hot tub with the spectacular 360 view of the city. I think it will be very comfortable and relaxing living here and look forward to meeting our new neighbors as well.

Generally, we had a great experience at the Soo Line. The apartments are in great condition, the location is outstanding, and the amenities are really well maintained. And, contrary to some of the earlier reviews, the management has always been friendly and responsive. It's great to have a good restaurant downstairs, Peloton bikes in the workout room, a gorgeous 20th floor commons, and a year-round pool and hot tub arrangement! The first issue, though, is noise. The floors and walls here are really thin which means that you are at the complete mercy of your neighbors. When we had good neighbors all was well, but when we had bad neighbors. . . If quiet is a value, and if you aren't up for the risk of hearing your neighbors parties or their music through the ceiling, then it's worth a second thought. The second issue is parking. Residents use the 517 Marquette lot next door. As downtown garages go it's poorly monitored and all manner of mischief goes down there. My car had the window broken out and was vandalized, and Nextdoor posts confirm that I'm not the only one. These things happen, and I don't blame Soo Line. But, if you have a car, you need to know that it's going into a less than ideal garage.

Soo Line has been wonderful! I had a few hiccups during the move-in process but everyone did everything they could to help make it work. All the people in the office and at that concierge desk are very helpful. The app they have is pretty neat! You can make maintenance requests, get package notifications, and post on a virtual community board. I love that I can't hear my upstairs neighbors at all (I can hear my neighbors on either side of me but they are quiet most of the time). The connection to the skyway has been fantastic. I was very nervous to move downtown, but so far my experience at Soo Line has been better than expected.

The location of Soo Line is fantastic! Easy light rail and bus access, downtown restaurants, and indoor skyway access all in one community. I was able to take public transportation to work and walk to get groceries even during the winter. The amenities are great too...indoor pool and hot tub, rooftop patio outdoor area, and fitness center. I thought the management was friendly and maintenance was quick to respond to any needs. I did not notice any noise issues and neighbors were polite. I would highly recommended this place. The only downside I can think of is that the underground heated parking is expensive, although I did not use this amenity so I can't speak to the value of the parking situation.

While the apartments are lovely, newly renovated, and fantastically located, I cannot in good faith say my experience here has been good. The management, specifically Troy, who heads it, is from a nightmare. You may get great service when visiting but as soon as you sign, game over. The staff are useless and can’t answer half the basic questions you may have because all they know how to do is sell you an apartment. Their office hours are at their discretion. As a resident, it is often near impossible to grab them as their hours are typical work hours. Try to catch them first thing in the morning? Oh they’re out somewhere... and you figure out it’s touring with a potential resident for an hour. Try to catch them in the last 20 mins before they close? Oh they’ve already locked the doors because they’re too busy talking to a prospective resident and despite your pleas for them to open the door, they casually dismiss you with a wave of the hand. They will arbitrarily charge you exorbitant fees (over $100/month) for water/trash/gas fees, which is unheard of in all my experiences. And I say “arbitrary” because there is no visibility—even the actual company doesn’t know the breakdown of the costs when you call and instead they refer you to the apartment management, who actually puts through the charges. I’ve even been to the point of getting charged 2 times a month twice now and had to complain about it both times. Oh and good luck getting any of your deposit back even if you tried to keep your apartment in pristine condition.

The apartment claims to be pet friendly, however, the pets are only allowed to be out of your apartment if you are walking to/from the "dog run". The "dog run" is a small patch of rocks on the roof, which takes 2 elevators to reach and if more than one dog is upstairs there is not space for them both. You are not allowed to stop on the roof with your dog to chat with the neighbors or have them with you when you are hanging out on the roof. The only compensating factor for the lack of dog resources is that the dog rent is less than the going rate at other buildings. The building manager is rude and defensive if you approach with any complaints or requests. There are constantly obnoxious parties on the roof leaving trash and filth littered around.

The location is extremely convenient as it's situated right in front of a blue line station and it's skyway connected. The amenities are pretty great, but only for 5-6months in the summer/early fall but after that it's too cold to enjoy the rooftop. One thing that I really dislike about living here is that the sounds of train going by and downtown construction literally vibrates through your apartment. keep in mind the trains run until 2 or 5am in the morning, so you'd be waken up by trains honking as they approach the station. The apartment itself gets really rowdy during Friday & Saturday nights as people throw big drunken parties at the rooftop, it completely ruins the atmosphere and they leave empty bottles everywhere.

Unless you enjoy absentee management and terrible operations avoid the Soo Line!!! There are so many nicer and newer apartments that you should avoid Soo at all cost!!! -management does not answer phone -concierge is not 24/7 -building security is a joke -elevators are slow and selective (they only run 1 during non peak hours) -apartments are very loud. you hear everything outside as well as inside. I always heard neighbors and the lightrail. -too many loud and obnoxious tenants as well.
I moved in when the Soo Line started being rented out two years ago. If you work downtown, the location is great. However, it is kind of a ghost town when you are in your apartment if you work from 8-5 because everyone leave downtown except for the light-rail constantly making noise outside of your apartment. To get to nightlife or restaurants, other than those in the building, you have to walk a few blocks. If you have been reading the news lately, there has been some crime as you walk towards Hennepinn Ave. In the winters, it is nice to walk the skyways at night if you are a walker. You can see Target field from the rooftop, but you definitely couldn't watch a game or anything, they up-sell that. 24/7 concierge service is a joke. When they first opened the apartments, they had the service, now a security guard sits at the front desk and can't do anything past let people in (They can't get your mail or any other items you need at that time). The temperature fluctuates quite a bit in the apartment. Management (Jennifer) is EXTREMELY hard to deal with. Ben at the concierge desk is great. Laminate woods floors are very cheap. Parking for visitors is a hassle and there is a person that continues to break into cars in the parking garage, which Soo Line will take no ownership of, but you contract through Soo Line for your parking space (Management issue). Water pressure goes in and out. We haven't gotten cold water for six months. It's not as expensive as the Nic on Fifth or 4 Marq so I'll give it two stars.
The Soo Line is a dream apartment, the staff is friendly, the rooftop pool is a dream, and did I mention the floor to ceiling windows? What more could you want from an urban getaway.
It's all about location with our apartment. The building is in the heart of Minneapolis and kiddy corner to the light rail train which connects you anywhere from the Mall of America to St. Paul. Not to mention, our apartment overlooks Target Field where the Twins play and is four blocks from the new Vikings stadium. We work from home, so living in the city we have a million options for lunch but we enjoy laying out on the rooftop where there is a pool and awesome lounge area. The building is skyway connected which is MANDATORY for our Minnesota winters. And there are two restaurants connected to the lobby which are great to have, especially in the winter. There is 24 hour concierge service, but I would say this is the only reason I didn't rate the complex 5 stars. There is no way to buzz people up if you have visitors or food deliveries so you have to contact the concierge to let them in. Not a major thing but if the concierge is letting someone else in they're not at the desk to take your call. Overall, it's really convenient and perfect if you enjoy city living.
